I never realized how quick the 340 is until I got one as a loaner car. I have a 5 series and when I had maintenance on it I had a 340 loaner. Man that 340 is super quick but you don't realize how fast you are going. Its a car that wants to be pushed to the limit every time you drive it. Nice ride.
The 3 series is the benchmark for a reason... and the M340i is the benchmark of the benchmark. I only got rid of mine because I upgraded to an M440i GC xDrive in the exact spec that I wanted. Congrats and enjoy it!
@@b1gd312 4 GC is a bit softer and more refined. 3 is more sporty and “fun”. I like the slightly more comfortable feel of the 4 GC more, but to each their own.
When you compare the IS500 vs M340i. Its like meeting two 28 yr old baddies when you're 35-40yr old. Both are 10s, but personalities are completely different. But you love both. but can only keep one. Both give it to you great, but the 340i just makes you finish a lil faster. So you choose the 340i. You forget tho, that one works out, the other does not. One will age like fine wine, the other will become like stale beer. Choosing the Lexus is like choosing the baddie that is into fitness and health, and the BMW is like choosing hotter chick who isn't into fitness or health, but secures a fetish. 5-10 yrs later, you're 45-50 yrs old, and bump into the Lexus, and realize you f-ed up.
I usually don’t comment but I really like your format, the video felt as if i’m in a conversation with you rather than watching someone reading a spec sheet. I like how you talked about it’s personal application to you and how the current market reflects your decision. The sit down format was nice and the sparkle transition was nice due to not being overproduced. Best of luck, looking forward to more videos!
Im so glad someone had the exact same comment as me, the video felt like just enough information to be super informative but not over the top like i'm being sold to by a salesman
I've had my '20 since '22. It's damn near perfect, best DD ever. I have HRE wheels, an Active Autowerke downpipe, tune, and Ohlins coils on mine, plus some OEM aero. That's all it needs. It's been an amazing car.
I leased a 21' m340i XI and now about couple months left until lease is done. If I were to phrase this car within a single word, it would be all-rounder. Reliable, great performance overall, very practical as well. I like to lease a new car every 3 years but this is the first vehicle that convinced me to go beyond that. For the transmission, only reason why they removed DCT from the M models is for the cost-effectiveness IMO, but regardless you can't go wrong with the ZF transmission. B58 & ZF are like peanut butter and jelly.
Just got my 21’ m340i x drive in December and man has it treated me nice. Got an amazing deal on it too 23k miles $43k out the door. I get excited every day to drive it, it never gets old!
Solid video, got my 2020 m340i about 2 years back and I'm still excited whenever I get the chance to drive it, makes even a trip to get groceries an adventure. I'd recommend a downpipe (VRSF is solid, provides better sound and opens up tuning options for the future), the Adro diffuser (no other diffuser is even close) and the TRE cerakote quad exhaust tips to replace the fake trapezoidal exhaust tips they have on stock.
I’m on the same exact boat as you with my 2020 lol. I just did xhp and currently in the 50 mile “break in” of that, and I will be doing a vrsf catless next week, with bm3 tuning coming soon.
congrats and God bless everyone, this car not only looks good, but the performance is insane and given the partnership with toyota its likely to be one of the more reliable bmw'ers too. Amazing choice.
Congrats! I just picked up my 2020 m340i less than a week ago and I agree with all of your points. I cross shopped the c43, but I knew the performance wasn't all there compared to the m340i. I looked at a 2021 m550i with a twin turbo v8, but had questions on reliability and fuel economy. Ultimately I chose this car and loved it for its 1. reliability 2. sound 3. comfort 4. luxuriousness 5. practicality
Elantra N, Civic Type R, EVs, Lexus, they are all great but there is a reason BMW is still top dog. Performance, looks, capability, space, interior. BMW is still what other brands aspire to. It is still the ultimate driving machine and can still do the daily driver thing extremely well.
I picked up a 2021 m340i w/xdrive in portimao blue a few weeks ago. It’s my second BMW. My first was a 2011 335i w/xdrive. It blows my mind that I now get way more horsepower and better gas mileage. The B58 is really an amazing engine.
Having owned a 21 M340i XDrive since new and 42k miles, I totally understand your decision. To me, it’s the ultimate daily. A little advice though, I seem to get the best gas mileage in comfort. I’ve averaged 31.2mpg since new and can easily get 36-41mpg on straight freeway driving.
Great choice! The lease on my ‘21 M340i is wrapping up this year and I can’t think of another car I’d want without spending like $20k more. On the fence about buying it out without adaptive suspension, laser lights, drive assist pro, and the tire & cooling package. (Damn part supply shortages)
Great pick! Too be fair, if the Audi has the sport diff it transforms the car. You can do dounuts like a RWD car in the wet and it lets the back end kick out. It's a big difference to one without it when hustling it.
I bought my 21 M340i four days ago. CPO w/ M Sport Package, Shadowline black trim package, Executive Package, Driver Assistance Package, it’s a nice spec. 1st BMW and loving it!
I wouldn’t buy anything rn the economy is about to crash. You should save your money. Have at least six months of savings. Well good luck repo man will be coming for it soon once this depression hits. Glad I have a year or two money our back and wasn’t stupid buying a car rn. People lack financial literacy now a days
How do you know I have not already been saving my money? I agree everyone should have at minimum 6 months living expenses in an emergency fund. Thankfully I have that and much more. I plan to pay off the car in two years (in case you were wondering). “Repo man going to come” it’s silly of you to make claims when you know absolutely nothing about my financial picture. Again, I never asked for your advice but thanks anyways.
Great choice. I had a string of BMW sedans and really appreciated them all. I could identify with your reasoning for buying the M340, BMWs were always what I really wanted, and were worth whatever premium or small sacrifice needed. Also, good job on the channel - nice presentation style, good opinions, great job of getting cars from dealers to review. Here's to hoping you keep moving up the ladder of youtube car reviewers.
Nice car. Good choice. I have a 2020 M340i, Dravit grey, M suspension, with all possible packages available when I got it brand new. It has 28K miles. No more warranty. It is my daily driver. Should I be concerned about expensive maintenance cost moving forward? Should I change it for a brand new EV which it is supposed to be cheap in maintenance. I appreciate your advice guys.
Amazing car to get, i would recommend, a downpipe before exhaust, just cheaper and gets more noise that u want, also cross shop other exhausts other than m performance, there are some better options that probably are cheaper. Also I would do lowering springs, dinan if u dont want to go too low, and cobra springs if you want to go for good fitment, they both improve the dynamics and ride if u have the adaptive suspension, if u dont then i wouldnt lower unless u dont mind extra firmness. Some tunes are cheap but i would do an xhp transmission tune, not expensive and basically makes that 8 speed become a dct. Cant wait to see more vids on your car!!!
I have a 2022 in white like yours and I daily a model 3. Every time I drive this on the weekend it brings smiles. Looking forward to seeing what you end up doing! Looking to do the Adro rear diffuser and maybe the spoiler. Wondering if that's too much on a white car, a sign I'm getting older lol
This is a fantastic video. After years of having an Accord coupe (V6, air suspension, big wheels, etc) it was time to let it go. I have two small kids (4 and 1.5) and I had an old B7 Audi that was a reliability nightmare. I'm really interested on one of these, even at these years, 2021/2022. I agree, you basically have the dream spec. I work remotely, and only go one day a week into my office. But that commute is an hour of winding wooded country roads and it's an absolute blast to drive with the right car. I'm still kicking around the TLX Type S as well. I was bitten so badly on the Audi is basically made me write off Euros for a while. I'm really looking forward to your series on this. I'm planning on buying at the end of this year, between Christmas and New Years.
Ya, that seems like a great buy for 46k with pretty low mileage. I’m thinking about getting a new car over the next year and this is definitely on my list. It’s probably in my top 2 right now with the Audi S5
Great choice, but I am curious why not consider the M550i? 2020ish examples go for around the 50k range at this point and it is another great daily option.
Good choice you didn’t go with ioniq 5, I also think that car is very exciting but I’m afraid of the cost of battery repair, especially after the news that Hyundai charges almost the same price as a brand new car to repair battery damage.
Nice! Honestly, didn’t go LCI cuz of money and went 21 because that just happened to be the one with the spec I wanted. In Milwaukee we have to get all our cool used cars from Chicago and outside that you REALLY have to travel to get anything else so it just worked out this way
@@dwnshft ahh I see. Its the same for me, originally wanted a 20’, but couldn’t find one with a decent spec. If I had the knowledge i have now abt m340s tho i woulda waited longer for a 20’ still just because of the exhaust note and burbles😭
Great choice. I'm still in my 2020 540i and love it. Too bad the new G60 is sooo fugly. I'm also a big fan of the X3 M40i. B58 engine for the win without the full M tax.
This video really helps me, as I'm very torn between M340i saloon/touring or M240i, I'm also torn between getting an ID8 facelift for the interior if anything, and have been told the 22 year facelift cars handle a bit better, the only negative i picked up on the test drive was the weight (M340i) when cornering hard compared to my mk4.5 Focus ST, and felt the M240i was more of an engaging setup, but have two kids, so, need the practicality of a 3 series.
M340i great fun car, but expect to cost more for maintenance and not long term keep. Lexus all around car to keep over 10 years or 100,000 miles or more, but most young guys would change car every 2-4 years or so, hence M340i is a good option under warranty.
Is the M-sport differential just a limited slip or does it provide side to side torque vectoring? (Not to be confused with brake vectoring ) Torque vectoring rocks my socks
Bro I am happy for you. But telling you this as I have owned both a 2020 and a 2023 m340i M340i which were built after 2020 August just sound like a vacuum cleaner as compared to the prior. upgrading exhaust doesn’t help. (All thanks to EU regulations and Greta) Also after 2020 August built M340is need ECU unlock 🔓 for which you need to send it to femto in Finland I tried M-performance exhaust on my 2023 and it was no way similar to what 2020 sounded like. I missed my 2020 so much that I ended up selling 2023 within a month. 😢
Good on you for going pre-LCI. To me, it's better-looking than the LCI. Also, I've been living with an X1 loaner car this week, and I'm not a huge fan of iDrive 8 so far, at least the form in the X1. The 3er retains some physical controls, at least. Coincidentally, the X1 is Mineral White as well, and I don't like it. Maybe it just doesn't look good on an X1. It looks dirty in any lighting. Anyway, our other car is an IS 500, and I honestly thought about the M340i... But I'm one of those buyers who said, "Forget that, I need a V-8!" We had a G20 330i prior, so I am familiar with the platform. It is a very good car - usable, agile, efficient, and generally easy to live with. It just never spoke to me like my IS500 does. Wishing you the best with your ownership. 🎉
“The B58 is essentially a cheat code” isn’t that the truth. Brutally fast in stock form, can get almost 600 with just a DP and a tune. You can even just do a JB4 piggyback and call it a day at 500hp.
Im in the market for one and im seeing some around 30-35k for the same mileage? do u think they are just posting at that price to get me in the door? or is is realistic to get one for around that price range. Also considering 2020 version too
I did consider the m550, yes! I really liked the v8 experience, it rode smoother, and was actually about even money - the m340 is just a bit more athletic, more tossable, etc….but tbh it was REALLY close with the m550 so if you’re leaning that way go for it!
honestly it didn't really cross my mind - I came from a Mazda CX5 so i think I was kind of done with the small SUV thing, and I seem to remember the ride on those X3Ms being pretty harsh - but yeah if you need more trunk space that would be a great alternative!
Yeah, my X3M suspension is very harsh and already over the small SUV thing. I am looking at either getting the M340i or M440i now. Seems way better for daily spirited driving.
Nice choice Matt👌🏻. Did you ever consider a Stinger GT2? Great looks, liftback practicality, rear-biased awd, a little more affordable than the beamer…aaaaaand, if you find a certified one, Kia’s warranty is legit. Fuel economy, however, would be worse. On second thought, after soaking in the video, I guess a Stinger is not that ‘aspirational’ vehicle that one dreams of, such as the German choices.
I did really like that car but it’s very similar to Paolo’s G70 3.3 and I just wanted something a little different than what he had 🤷♂️ stinger is still an awesome car though
@@dwnshft Yeah I definitely miss the sound of it but like you touched on in this video, the fuel efficiency in the M340 is crazy good. On a recent road trip, I damn near achieved 40 mpg on the highway in regular comfort mode and it's pretty much just as quick as the GSF. The tech is also much better than the GSF. I do share the same sentiments with you on the tameness of the stock M340 exhaust though and am also looking to get the MPE soon.
From a fellow Wisconsinite, I would love to know what shops you trust to do the work, I’m currently looking for the right m401i and would love to have an insider’s pov. Love the video and will tune into more. It’s funny cause I also have a 93 3 series as well! New subscriber 🎉
@@dwnshft just finished watching the video and gave it the thumbs up but yea you def made the right choice with the BMW. Electric cars don't do good in the cold overall so many problems with the new technology it's just not there yet.
The 500 is a more special car but yeah it still under performs, interior from 2014, super cramped interior. The m340i while a very good car , is less special since theyre are a dime a dozen aka the grandma spec. Interior tech and motor is definitely a step up over the ancient Lexus interior. Enjoy
Glad you got the car that you felt is best for you. However, it's too soon to say the B58 engine is reliable. That would take another 5 or more years. But so far, overall, it's looking good.
The B58 has been around for 7 years now! There have been plenty of them with well over 200k on the odometer. I know there is memes about BMW reliability but the b58/48 has put those worries to rest. The tuning and reliability of BMW engines is likely the best engine for sale today. Even better than Honda, except with much more power.
An amazing car you got right there but I’m surprised cause I thought you would have an audi over an bmw since in most of your videos you praise audi so much
@@dwnshftsame here but I’m more of a mini cooper fan and thanks to watching your video of the countryman jcw chili red I decided to get myself one of those and it is amazing
It really is a shame they gave the IS500 such a shit transmission. Makes no sense. I also find it funny that you couldn't get vented seats in the M5, so you passed, but then got a car that also doesn't have vented seats.
@@dwnshft Yeah. I'm actually thinking of getting the X3 M40i over the M340i and one of the reasons is ventilated seats. Though I live in Georgia, so they are very handy for many months of the year. I honestly don't get why you can't even option them in the M340i.
oh my god if you'd only know how much bow m5 cost in Uzbekistan you would'n said this things like 60k+ is a lot for this car hahaha (it costs 150-175k depends on year from 2017-2019, new 210K+)

Congratulations on the purchase of your vehicle 🙏🙏🎉🎉
thanks Mike
I got the same car for the same price as yours except my car is blue. I wanted white but they didn’t have the specs I wanted.
This video really helps me, as I'm very torn between M340i saloon/touring or M240i, I'm also torn between getting an ID8 facelift for the interior if anything, and have been told the 22 year facelift cars handle a bit better, the only negative i picked up on the test drive was the weight (M340i) when cornering hard compared to my mk4.5 Focus ST, and felt the M240i was more of an engaging setup, but have two kids, so, need the practicality of a 3 series.
glad the video helped!
congrats man, 46k is a little up there bro, i got mine for 40k with 34k miles im in socal too
Yeah maybe 🤷♂️ but I can recoup some of that through the videos on the channel etc
Congrats on your purchase Matt.. I know you'll enjoy it. The awd would be why I would have gotten it over an IS500
thanks!
(Not to be confused with brake vectoring )
Torque vectoring rocks my socks
Why didn't you go with a used m850i? They are going for about 45-50.
that would have been a VERY interesting option...I do love that V8
@@dwnshft bro then why didn't you get one?!
@@Oliver-gl5xz I remember looking at them briefly but don’t remember why I stopped 😅🤷♂️
That's fabulous 🤍 Congrats🎉
many thanks!
Bro I am happy for you. But telling you this as I have owned both a 2020 and a 2023 m340i
M340i which were built after 2020 August just sound like a vacuum cleaner as compared to the prior. upgrading exhaust doesn’t help. (All thanks to EU regulations and Greta)
Also after 2020 August built M340is need ECU unlock 🔓 for which you need to send it to femto in Finland
I tried M-performance exhaust on my 2023 and it was no way similar to what 2020 sounded like. I missed my 2020 so much that I ended up selling 2023 within a month. 😢
I hope you have a warranty!
Sounds like we have similar taste 😎 thanks!
loved this you got yourself a new subscriber! working to get this as my first car in a year's time. will get the '22 model.
Stay at it, the car is worth it!! Thanks for the love
“The B58 is essentially a cheat code” isn’t that the truth. Brutally fast in stock form, can get almost 600 with just a DP and a tune. You can even just do a JB4 piggyback and call it a day at 500hp.
Just unreal
B58>>>. The 2020 models do sound the best tho. Congrats 🎊🍾
And the 2020s you don’t have to send overseas to unlock your DME 😅
@@dwnshft100%!! I will be doing a bench unlock on mine soon, and flashing Bm3 stage 2!
Im in the market for one and im seeing some around 30-35k for the same mileage? do u think they are just posting at that price to get me in the door? or is is realistic to get one for around that price range. Also considering 2020 version too
340is doesn't matter if you see with 30k or 100k miles, still the most robust car I've ever seen
Congratulations brother for ur bmw m340 xdrive u make excellent videos keep it up cheers greetings from Toronto Canada 🍁
Many thanks 🙏
as a lexus is 350 owner hope the bmw holds up for you. will you be keeping a long time? would love the is 500
the plan is to keep the m340i for ~3 years....provided I dont run into many major issues
The bmw m340 is gonna hold on longer than your is350 1000% it’s has a b58
did u consider the m550i, im contemplating between the m340 and that. whats your take on it
I did consider the m550, yes! I really liked the v8 experience, it rode smoother, and was actually about even money - the m340 is just a bit more athletic, more tossable, etc….but tbh it was REALLY close with the m550 so if you’re leaning that way go for it!
@@dwnshft got it, thanks will def consider
Great choice, M340i ftw 😏👍🏼
Any reason you didn’t go for the pre-LCI X3M for the same money?
honestly it didn't really cross my mind - I came from a Mazda CX5 so i think I was kind of done with the small SUV thing, and I seem to remember the ride on those X3Ms being pretty harsh - but yeah if you need more trunk space that would be a great alternative!
I did really like that car but it’s very similar to Paolo’s G70 3.3 and I just wanted something a little different than what he had 🤷♂️ stinger is still an awesome car though
do let me know how any mateniece is and how long till you need some
💯
Should I get a 340i or a new 330i?
340
Nice!!!!! Congratulations! That’s super clean! 🎉🎉🎉
big thanks!!
We are pretty much twins. I got my white LCI last October after letting go of my GSF
Nice! Do you miss the GSF and that V8 at all??
@@dwnshft Yeah I definitely miss the sound of it but like you touched on in this video, the fuel efficiency in the M340 is crazy good. On a recent road trip, I damn near achieved 40 mpg on the highway in regular comfort mode and it's pretty much just as quick as the GSF. The tech is also much better than the GSF. I do share the same sentiments with you on the tameness of the stock M340 exhaust though and am also looking to get the MPE soon.
Cost to maintain? Any warranty? These things can have brankrupt you if something goes wrong. Beautiful car, but they feel kinda scary to own
This and the 2021 S4 are top of my list when I get rid of my gli
niiiiccceeee
From a fellow Wisconsinite, I would love to know what shops you trust to do the work, I’m currently looking for the right m401i and would love to have an insider’s pov. Love the video and will tune into more. It’s funny cause I also have a 93 3 series as well! New subscriber 🎉
Sweet thanks! If you’re in the Milwaukee area, go to Kummrow in Glendale 💯 that’s where I’ll be taking mine
@@dwnshft yes sir in Greendale! Can’t wait for next videos!
Bro I saw the Hyundai and almost clicked off the video lmaooo but them beam is absolutely fuego!
🙏
Not vibin with the I5N or the Elantra?
@@dwnshft just finished watching the video and gave it the thumbs up but yea you def made the right choice with the BMW. Electric cars don't do good in the cold overall so many problems with the new technology it's just not there yet.
possibly the best "just traffic" car out there
lololollol
@@dwnshft it is traffic. used to have one, newer than yours. enjoy!
Side skirts would make it look killer
😏
Beautiful car , can be scary fast in stock from .😎
Totally 😬
U should buy the 2023 it has better design and it has oficial M wing mirrors
Missing lasers and m adaptive suspension. Otherwise looking good
I do miss the adaptive suspension for sure
this in europe as a wagon (touring) ist the ultimate car.
Honestly incredibly jealous
Car looks shit hot 👍 in my opinion the M340i is the best car of its price range in terms of performance and everyday driving economy.
agreeeeeee
I have a 23 m440i coupe. I adore it
Nice 😎
nice car i personally like the c43 amg sedan more that’s my opinion
That c43 is a riot!
Fair
The B58 has been around for 7 years now! There have been plenty of them with well over 200k on the odometer. I know there is memes about BMW reliability but the b58/48 has put those worries to rest. The tuning and reliability of BMW engines is likely the best engine for sale today. Even better than Honda, except with much more power.
An amazing car you got right there but I’m surprised cause I thought you would have an audi over an bmw since in most of your videos you praise audi so much
Audi is good, but BMW is just a little more my taste 🤷♂️
@@dwnshftsame here but I’m more of a mini cooper fan and thanks to watching your video of the countryman jcw chili red I decided to get myself one of those and it is amazing
@@joseamaya1178 that’s awesome!!
@@dwnshft I’ve probably watched that video like 15 times lol
M lites are the right choice 👌
It really is a shame they gave the IS500 such a shit transmission. Makes no sense.
I also find it funny that you couldn't get vented seats in the M5, so you passed, but then got a car that also doesn't have vented seats.
Yeah the cooled seats weren't a deal breaker, just kinda something I would have wanted in my M5 $$$$
@@dwnshft Yeah. I'm actually thinking of getting the X3 M40i over the M340i and one of the reasons is ventilated seats. Though I live in Georgia, so they are very handy for many months of the year. I honestly don't get why you can't even option them in the M340i.
@@greg5143 makes total sense - yeah it is a bummer you can’t get cooled seats on the sedan 😒
Congrats.
Thanks 🙏
Bro has great taste
🙏
I wonder if toyota has anything to do with the b58s reliability 🧐
oh my god if you'd only know how much bow m5 cost in Uzbekistan you would'n said this things like 60k+ is a lot for this car hahaha (it costs 150-175k depends on year from 2017-2019, new 210K+)
Elantra n is fantastic but you made the best choice

we all have feetfinders
Bautiful spec and best sedan there is, but that front lip is one of the ugliest I have seen on G20, not gonna lie. It looks like a snow plugging machine.
