Man you find the very best simple solution and you are not happy and recommending this. This is a cheap idealistic and simple setup for over head shooting. Thanks.
LATER ON I WILL BE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING SIMILAR TO THIS TO FLIM MY HANDS PLAYING THE PIANO. I THINK THE OVER HEAD VIEW WILL LOOK MUCH BETTER THAN A SIDE ON VIEW. I WANT TO BUY SOMETHING THAT IS "ALL IN ONE" BUT LOOKS SOMETHING LIKE WHAT YOU HAVE SHOWN, THANKS.
I’d recommend a counterweight to offset the weight of the ballhead & camera. Without that counterweight even when you feel you have it totally anchored down and in place you will find the camera will be susceptible to normally imperceptible vibrations moving in the the floor of the room.
Hi, I just bought this horizontal arm, I wanted to get the converters as well. What sizes are the converters/what exactly should I search on amazon? It'd also be amazing if you could link the converters you used.
Thanks for sharing the setup and advice. There are a lot of ways to utilize the tripod arm. I can see what you mean about it being complex. My guess is it'd comprise roughly 10% of the setup time for any project.
Btw... Mine is a really old 2220. The boom arm is really solid. I saw someone using what looked to be a mic stand. Interesting concept I’m going to check into that since I have a few.
Thank you very much. I too spent a good deal of time searching for something solid like this (for my food photography) for a reasonable price. Just placed my order :).
great idea, thanks for that! By the way, what settings do you use for your camera when recording videos from you sketching? I have difficulties to get all in focus. Or have you ever made a video on how you record those videos?
I use my magic arm with a super clamp attached to my desk so I don't boder with my tripod anymore :D The room is spacious, and the arm looks like a part of a desk lamp ;)
With a set-up like this, To avoid tripping and knocking over the camera. It is a good idea to use sand-bag to stabilize the set-up by placing it at the bottom of the tripod.
I found that the Manfrotto 244 Variable Friction Magic Arm with camera bracket with a super clamp works like a charm for working on a table and it doesnt use any floor space. Its also built to last - so you will never have to replace it - what can be cheaper than that? : )
@@danc3693 I've been using for years, good as new, heavy duty set up. I bought for a bit less than that. Everyone has to find whats right for them. It's been absolutely worth it for me. You get what you pay for and this gear will be with me for life. 🤗❤
where do you buy the secondary ball head? im stuck at the last part because mounting my camera directly at the end doesnt fit well at 90 degree point below
You can find ball head on Amazon. I'm using a Velbon ball head. I only buy ball heads that use a specific size of tripod plate. This way, I can get different models of ball head, but they can all be used with the same tripod plate.
You can. The tripod hole on the arm is too big so you need a big-to-small and small-to-big screw adapter. 1/4 to 3/8 and vice versa. These should be affordable and can be found on eBay or AliExpress.
Hi, thanks a lot for the video, it helped me a lot, one more suggestion please. i fo ise 5d matk iv anf as the camera is heavy can you suggest a good tripod?
Thanks for sharing. Just wondering, what are the material of the clamp (the part that hold the arm)? Are they metal & strong? (It looks like plastic) Do you think i can attach monopod at the end of the arm if i want longer arm? Thanks
HELP PLEASE.. I’m looking for a Industry Standard 1/4-20 screw thread (basic camera shoe mount) mounted at the top, or tip, of a monopole. While that monopole is attached to possibly a dual desk clamp. I have looked quite a bit and I cannot find a camera shoe mount that is attached at the end of a pole anywhere. The pole will stand vertically and at the top of the pole is a standard industry camera shoe mount to mount a 35 mm camera at the top of that pole. .
You all prolly dont care but does someone know a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly lost my login password. I appreciate any assistance you can give me!
@@DashofTing yup you can, just need to have a phone bracket that can screw onto the pole, and your good to go. I use my DSLR and cell phone to make videos and flat lays too.
@@chjunrui If you position your video camera upright, it should record upright. Basically, what you see on the LCD screen is what you are going to get. So if you say your videos are upside down, does that mean that they are upside down when you view the LCD?
Teoh Yi Chie I understand. The problem is that when I use the extension arm my camera can’t turn right down. So I wonder is that a head ball or something to allow the camera turn right. Thank you!
Totally agree with you Teoh, but just realize that some may see that camera and think otherwise. I DO appreciate you always trying to look for the cheapest alternatives to things while STILL retaining the great quality and features as many of your viewers are on tight budgets. I think there are areas where saving a buck makes sense,...and others where you need to just save up and bite the bullet and buy the best out there. It's a fine line between the two. Keep up the great work and showing us both the high end stuff as well as the high quality but bargain priced alternatives. The viewers can decide on if the trade offs are worth it or not in their applications. For my first painting videos I strapped my camera onto a desk lamp that had a bendable arm. This looks much more stable lol :)

ME TOO.
Thank you for doing an in depth response to my question from this weekend's Q&A. I really appreciate the help you have provided!
I actually recorded this video three months ago. ;-)
My old gitzo tripod has a horizontal bar built in. The center column can extend laterally it’s very convenient.
I've thought of getting Gitzo but it's really expensive.

Perhaps one can use a microphone stand and a 3/8" female to 1/4" male adapter?
thank you so much for the video you have same my time too much ........can you pls give a purchase link for Adapters ????? pls ??????
this looks really good, wish it came with all pieces and bits already not that i would have to search for them separate, but otherwise yes very nice

great idea, thanks for that! By the way, what settings do you use for your camera when recording videos from you sketching? I have difficulties to get all in focus. Or have you ever made a video on how you record those videos?
Turn off auto focus while recording if it is on. Then focus on your work, and it should lock focus throughout.
Great video. Because my desk is so wide I will have to find one that’s a bit longer. Thanks again for sending me this link.
Nice video! I also bought this extended leg for tripod. So I need 2, 3/8 to 1/4 adapters right?
Thank you so so much for sharing this!!!
Couldn't you just mount the arm directly to the tripod and just use one strong ballhead at the end?
The camera has to extend out to get the direct top down view.
Because it is set up on the side, it is more out of the way for me to knock it.
Thanks
The Vanguard Alta Pro tripod can do this.

Which tripod to buy?
Please may I have a name or link for the 2 tiny convertors that you brought to get the screw ball head correct thanks.
I don't have links to them. You should ask camera companies. Or search on eBay.
Where is the link of that tripod 🤔🤔 in Description it is not there .... please provide link also...🙂
You can just search on AliExpress. There are sellers the come and disappear or no longer sell the arm. That's why I didn't include a link.

It's some lousy "gaming chair" I bought at a local furniture shop. Don't get gaming chairs. Not as ergonomic as normal computer chairs.
Thanks, duly noted. Looks cool though.
