The Haka Tika Tonu belongs to us, Ngā uri o Ngāti Kahungunu. Tika tonu is a Haka Taparahi, Nā mātou Hākoro i hanga. Pēne Te Uamairangi, Karaitiana Takamoana,Te Meihana Tākihi, Taranaki Te Ua, Nīkera Whenuakura, Paora Pāheni ma.Penned by our great grand uncles as a Haka Taparahi, in ahuahungāro mita 3/4 tempo - āta haere - slow and controlled, otherwise known as the style and stance of Ngāti Kahungunu , of Heretaunga.

Respect to all Maori. Totally appreciate the great honor it would be for anyone to be greeted with the Haka. I know very little about the traditions in NZ, but I totally appreciate the intensity and sincerity in your wish for things to be the best for anyone and everyone.

i can assure you, this haka was done very properly. unfortunately a microphone was near the woman so her voice was projected louder than the rest in the audio. The tutors knew all their stuff and they taught the group very well. I agree that this is not an entertainment and we all knew that, unfortunately the audience makes it look like an entertaining thing by clapping and laughing and cheering etc.

I agree with Monique. And FYI We do not have different pronunciations around Aotearoa, we have dialectal differences which make us unique in belonging to the Tairāwhiti, or Taitokerau ect. Being Māori, you would have the common sense and respect that you do not execute a Haka that is composed by a different Iwi, unless you perform it how the composer composed the words, actions and rangi!

To give justice to our haka, the kupu of the kaea were lead strong and clear. Not crazy and out of control. I say we the uri of the composers of this Haka be stubborn and bitchy about it, because one its going to turn to shit! Or, how about a kick to the teeth of our Tipuna nē? Nāku noa

Please if you are using Haka from another Iwi/Hapu, respect is shown by performing in the manner that enhances the mana of the composer. Its unfortunate that the comments are so negative (although I agree with the majority of them) the critique could be less personal. If you click on my pic and search Tika Tonu there is an example of how this Haka Taparahi should be performed. Arohamai.

WTfF if your do it , do it properly ! the woman screaming sounded like she was giving birth this is a treasure how many in this group know what this Haka represents , its a haka not entertainment , a challenge to all tutours know your stuff you make a simple change in a haka so does the next generation , ! To those giving it a go i encourage you to ask tutours what haka means its origins and correctnous of speed and actions , kia kaha .

if you are so pro at haka, you would also know that there are different pronunciations all over NZ. Maori do things differently in all parts of NZ, it depends where you come from. How about being proud and respectful? rather than putting down your own culture and how WE like to do things?... shucks.

You are so wrong on so many levels. First the women screaming is in the crowd next to the person doing the filming not up on stage. Second giving birth is also a treasure and third if that is what she sounds like then she has nailed it because the extreme pain of birth has the same intensity as a haka. A challenge to you - grow up and stop trying to sound like you know it all because you don't and you don't by a long shot.

When did our culture become reduced to this agressive, angry screaming and yelling? Haka and waiata are controlled and beautiful. So much of the modern stuff has lost the mana of our tupuna. And this is not about women giving birth at all so those comments are moot. The women should never be screaming as these are. It is awful and they should be taught correctly.

Haka ain't meant to be soft just saying, doing it aggressive and angry is good
