another thank-you. I woulda read it in the Haynes / Chilton manual but this identifying those 10 T27 torx bolt locations savedme 30min & probable frustration. I'm thrilled to have to do this to my 1995 UpCountry XJ ; same side, same hinge , 390,000 miles of cracking & opening - slamming. I hope my cheap MIG ( flux core 0.35 w northern welder 125) gets it as solid as you did yours. man, I do not feel like taking that front quarter panel off 😮💨
I hear that! Wow 390k, mines just now approaching 250k! But yes the drivers side always gets the worse beating for obvious reasons. The welder i use is an old Campbell/Hausfeld flux core 80 in a shop only wired for standard. So if anything if your running a 125, and you run the same wire i do, you'll probably get an even better result than i did! i just know how to work my setup! It sure as hell aint pretty but its solid and gets the job done! Let me know if you have any questions and or let me know how yours turns out!
Damn you cleaned that weld up nicely! As for the welds, hey if they hold they hold, thats all that matters!!! The XJ sounds like the eclipse I'm working on right now. DSM cars are awesome, but they suck to work on. I'm about to have to pull the whole motor out of the car.
Oh really!? Wow, and yeah thanks i always try to clean the material best i can before i lay my chicken scratch on (hahahahahahaha). And absolutely, as backyard monkeys with toolboxes it may be ugly as sin... but hell if she hold she holds!
You did a good job of cleaning it up...unfortunately Your weld is worse then the previous weld, you had found it's been three years since you made this video.....Question: are you any better at welding? you have the gear watch some videos..... and learn to work it better you have no excuse....good luck.... i have the same door issue except i leaned on mine and tore the top hing away from post... i have a stick welder but im certified so hopefully i can puddle and move the weld, i ordered special rod 6013 - 3.32 & 1/16 rod for thin work, i do not want to pull that fender off....Daww! wish i had miller wire feed but i do not any more.
I am still learning, im getting a stick welder here soon, my issue is im only working with an 80 amp flux welder, and my power supply is not rated for welding. BUT here recently put a smaller wire in (went from a .35 to a .30) and im impressed! Still doing my same techniques, but a lot cleaner weld! A lot less spatter and bubblegum crap! Im by no means perfect, really a beginner and most, but practice makes perfect right? Im investing in a generator just for welding until i can get proper electrical! Tired of tripping breakers in the middle of a weld!
@@GearheadsGarage336 Well the stick is what i will use, i will use stick from Amazon Weldcote Metals E 6013 Welding Rod 3/32 & Hobart H117119-RDP 6013 Stick Welding Electrode, 1/16-Inch & 40 amps, im just worried that the beam is thin and once trick others have tought me is to add material like a new bolt or flat bar piece to your top part of the hinge will be welled to the flat bar that is 2" wide and the you weld in a who new area above the previous rusted / ripped up area but have the same strength and a real nice flat area to do a real nice back & forth slow penetration pattern, there are some good welders on TH-cam i watch them and i welded for living.
so i have all the torx off and my top hinge because i leaned on the door pulling the hinge out a bit... and did not immediately repair! so it ripped more not it off..DAWWWW, so the engine mud liner above the wheel, do i need to take any screws out i have not? i just want to pull it back near the hinge 5 " to, can you recall is this possible? i just want it to come towards me...
That’s not been repaired before. That’s just how bad jeep welded the hinges. My 2 doors identical and I’m about to do the same project. Except I’m cutting a small square and sliding a plate behind it to reinforce it. It’s a fairly common repair on these unfortunately.
Thanks for spreading the Jeep love! I didn’t know how to take that quarter panel off

I have kinda the same issue going on... not sure if I should take the door off or leave it on...
Same problem I have exact same thing doing that this weekend

Don't think that's gonna hold I just bolted mine on with a extra plate inside on the bottom one.

Dude said Lemme go stand by these barking dogs and make a TH-cam video.
