I spend a lot of time on my thumbnails to make sure they catch your eye but also tell you exactly what you're about to watch... doesn't seem to catch much attention, but I'm fine with that. I'll keep doing what I do and keep honesty at my forefront.. 🍻

Like I did a video recently “10 Awesome Knives Everyone Can Afford”
Hard to make a thumbnail of 10 knives.
But I try to make it clear from the title or thumbnail or both what the video is about.
Then people can decide if they want to watch or not.
But some channels NEVER tell you the brand or knife in the title or show you in the thumbnail.
Sure it works.
It gets clicks.
But I think it’s a douchebag thing to do on EVERY SINGLE video and makes me think you’re just a disingenuous person.
Maybe I’m way off in my thinking.
But that’s what I think.

I like watching channels like yours in which I can see and hear you, not just your hands, and objects with background music.
I make an effort to mix it up and do some tabletop videos and some videos of me.
I feel like people want to be able to connect with the person they’re watching because TH-cam and this world is already impersonal enough.
I finally got a new microphone.
One day I’ll get better background lighting and make my forward facing videos look more polished… that’s the plan anyway.

I definitely agree with what you’re saying. There is only one channel I watch that uses sensational clickbait titles because they’re just hilarious, and that’s Dutch Bushcraft Knives. Other than that, i’m with you in that the channels I watch are definitely honest about with their thumbnails and titles. Sometimes I’ll even 👎 videos that pull that crap. Amen. Preach to the fishbowl. Everything you have said is true. There is not enough time in one’s day to watch every video from every channel I’m subscribed to so the clickbait titles and obscured title card ones don’t even get a click to fast forward through. You are also correct that when YT is done with Guntubers the knife guys are next. Most videos I watch are because of the presenter’s personality.

I agree that the excessively dramatic titles get annoying, but I don't think vagueness is always a bad thing. For example, I watch a lot of Metal Complex's unboxings, and for me the mystery is half the fun in those.
If he put the exact knife he's opening in the title and thumbnail, that would be like a see-through easter egg imo. All it does is spoil the reveal before you start watching. I use MC as the example here because he's the one I watch most, but lots of reviewers do a similar unboxing format, and I think it's a totally valid use of this kind of "clickbait"

Now I see countless smaller channels emulating the clickbait titles and thumbnails.
I don’t watch his channel anymore.
When I first entered the knife and EDC world, I watched but I refuse to participate in the constant click baiting.
I’m one of those rare knife guys that likes and uses folders, fixed blades, and slip joints and you just don’t get that on his channel.
So I’ve never called him out on anything because I don’t watch.

From the tv show Naked and Afraid to the biggest knife channel on TH-cam.
We know why people watch, and it’s not because of her knife acumen.
She is 100% without a doubt an industry plant that was put in place and intentionally elevated to where she is now as a marketing agent and nothing more.

Those clickbait titles with a "review" that's just opening and closing a knife a few times don't do much for me. Hence me doing what I do. But yeah a good clickbait title and thumbnail get a lot done. I'd love to have the title and thumbnail game figured out, but all I really want to do is share my experience and perspective on a blade I've actually carried and used over a period of time. Especially the cardboard slayer runs. Kind of a side tangent. It's already HARD to watch yet more knife videos after making videos so if I sit down and watch a video it better be a knife I'm interested in or a discussion I'm interested in.

I get where you are coming from, but to a certain extent, it is not media that is to blame.
Give me a second to explain. We get what we vote for with our money and our time. No one would do these things you describe if it didn't work to meet the goal.
It would be great if the media was interested in the good of man kind. It's more about manpulation of the masses for gain of money and/or power. I agree with you, but we are in the minority as proved by the existence and success of these tactics.
So, who is to blame? I hate media and politicians lying to us. Only society can stop this by recognizing that we are too easily fooled and that it is being used against us. Until then, they will not be stopped.

I just think it makes someone disingenuous at their core when they do it on EVERY single video.
Sometimes you can’t show the subject of the video in the thumbnail or title.
But when it’s every video then it’s very obvious what that person is doing.
Is it wrong to do it?
Fundamentally, no.
It just makes me think there’s something untrustworthy about that person.

I've noticed these clickbait titles and it really annoys me. Every knife is always the greatest, best, most exciting knife ever (until the next video.) Complete with exclamation points! Lots of exclamation points!!! Every video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've stopped clicking on a lot of these videos out of principle. BTW I think the ShamWow guy went to prison, if that makes you feel any better.🙂

Dude Im absolutely subscribed to those dudes with the clickbait title. I click on the vid, skip to the frame where the knife is actually shown, decide I don’t like it and click out of the vid. Shits annoying

I have tried to watch those channels but just can’t. For many of said reasons and I just don’t see the value in many of the knives they show.
The clickbait and not showing the knife in the thumbnail or giving ANY indication what the video is actually about on EVERY SINGLE VIDEO is just so tiresome.
It just gives me the impression that it’s a disingenuous person that is completely full of it.

Unsure of what you mean here. Is using marketing 101 methods being dishonest? If click bait brings in views, isn't that good for the community? The more people involved helps the smaller channels as well. I don't think that the titles you gave are clickbait, knives are still mentioned in the title. If a photo of a beautiful woman and title read "how to meet me", that would be dishonest and bothersome. I subbed and watch your videos because you are not afraid to speak your mind on politics when most knife channels won't. Thanks for the content brother.

When the thumbnail doesn’t show you the knife that is the subject of the video and the title doesn’t state it either or at least give you some idea of what it is, is that not click bait.
I think it’s disingenuous at best.
