Hi, since you seem well experienced with the PD400 I would like to ask you if you think the PD400 can take 160mm 4 jaw chuck ? I may use it rarely but it is very useful for me for producing back plat etc. According to proxxon the cross slide travel is 85MM so it can basically get up to Maximum 170MM before it touches the bed. what I am concern with is when I open the 4 jaws it get out side the body of the 160MM chuck. I am also concern with the fact that 160mm chuck wight 3 times the 100mm chuck provided by proxxon. I would like to know what you think about?... I know i can always buy 125mm chuck.
160mm chuck seems too much. 1) The clearance from main axis to bed rails is approx. 90 mm, thus you will be able to extend jaws 10 mm only. 2) The chuck body will cross protective hood base (near it's axis of rotation) and this decorative bolt on which protective hood rests while it is down. May be you should consider to modify 100mm chuck's jaws. If you manage to find additional set of jaws you can install some extensions which will allow you to clamp larger parts. I saw they use two-part jaws. One with teeth rests in chuck. And they bolt replaceable actual jaws to it. This part can be made from brass even. They install a set of replaceable jaws and just turn this set to diameter needed. Then they use it to clamp some specific part. Something like this th-cam.com/video/sjP2zN7LYbU/w-d-xo.html
Hi Харитон Круглов , thank you for your prompt reply. As for the first one, the clearance from main axis to bed rails is exactly 85 mm, thus you are right. I will not be able to extend the jaws more than 10mm. As to the second thing you mentioned, for the rare occasion I will use the 160mm chuck I can take off the protective hood base and the back plate I will produce will pass both bolts on which the protective hood rest on. However, even if I can mount the 160mm chuck by creating special back plate I still afraid that 10 Kg chuck can move the whole lathe from one side to another, since the lathe's total wight is 45 Kg only. In addition, may be the 10kg chuck is to much for the spindle. I might go for the other idea you gave to try to extend the jaws. I appreciate very much your taught.
@@MrOsherman 10 kg on the spindle is too much for the drive either. I think you will loose 2 top speeds. When i need top rpm I should wait for spindle to wind up completely and then turn on the feed clutch. If clutch remains engaged the spindle just wont start.
Do you speak English? I am using quick-change post Optimum SWH-A. Optimum is German trademark but I believe these made in China but quality is absolutely ok. SWH-A fits Proxxon PD-400 best it allows you to clamp cutters up to 14x20mm. Most of my cutters are 12x12. SWH-AA is smallest one, allows cutter up to 10x12mm. I think this is too small. I advise SWH-A. And think ahead how many cartridges do you need. I have 6 D-type and 4 H-type, plus there was cartridge with MK-I insert which allows to use MK-I drill or chuck.
Может конечно он и китайский, но Proxxon его продает как свой - Proxxon 24410, любой гугл найдет. Кстати в описании к видео присутствует...
