  • Vedic hymns and mantras can be chanted properly by following specific rules regarding svara (intonation), pronunciation of anusvara (nasalization) and visarga (re-aspiration), and meter (syllable duration). These rules for Vedic chanting are explained and demonstrated in this brief video.

Oh thank you! This is the first time the Sandi makes sense to me. I have a lot to learn, I a still learning to read Devanagari, and at the same time understand what the mantras say, I have listened to some of your more philosophical lectures:they are so helpful. There are still moments when I feel lost, but not as desperate as when I turned to Mantra chanting.
Thank you again, from the bottom of my heart

Thanks a lot. It's been incredibly difficult trying to find a video to learn the quarks of Sanskrit Prenunciation. I also need to learn about different metres in Vedic hymns. Like how the Anustubh, Arya, Tristubh each sound, how to tell what's what and all that nitty and gritty detail.
I know it must be hard to pack that kind of long studied lesson into a short video, but I truly appreciate what you're doing here.
    Thanks again!

I'm confused by the short i sound. Around 3:00, for the first two shantis the short i sounds like i as in 'if', but in the last one it sounds like 'i' as in 'ski'. I've been noticing this in other places and it has always confused me, because different sources say it is one way or the other, and then I'll hear it both ways from those same sources in context! I like the notion that Sanskrit is purely 1:1 phonetic, is there some contextual rule that I've not learned yet? Many thanks.

Also, Ahīṃśca why we don’t pronounce it as Ahīgm śca?
How would you pronounce the following:
Oṃ namo ? I know it has to be On namo but because Oṃ is a special word I don’t know if I am allowed to change it like that?
And how do you say saṃhātana?
    Am I correct to read
    Carīraṃ Sarva sattvānaṃ ca
as Carīran sarva sattvānañ ca ?
Please forgive me for so many questions. Thank You and god bless.

Because I'm looking for a Bhagavad Gita version that contains those pitches notations, but I couldn't found any. I mean, how can I know what are the pitches if the Bhagavad Gita books don't specify them.

Devanagari is 100% phonetic and 100% consistent (unlike dear ol' English) so you can learn to read, write, and speak the words out loud super fast. Do it with Hindi as it doesn't have these "complex sounding" extra letters, then add them to your repertoire later on. Although you sound like you are Assamese or Bengali, so it should be easier?

    • @tzadik36
      @tzadik36 4 ปีที่แล้ว

chicawhappa English and Urdu; some spoken Bengali; almost no written Bengali. Grew up in Pakistan & Bangladesh.

    • @chicawhappa

@@tzadik36 Oh! Regardless of that, all you have to do is learn your full name in Devanagari, to understand how matras (vowels) work on consonants, and that's 30% of it 😊 Google hindi varnamala to get an alphabet chart. Etc

@@mlenchhantakyavanantak4321 The pronounciaton of ज्ञ is done gya by native Hindi speakers and dnya by native Marathi speakers. The real pronounciaton is jnya(jña) in Sanskrit but nobody pronounce like that because of the effect of their native languages. ज्ञ is pronounced different in different parts of India. In old Sanskrit script (Brahmi Script) there is no extra letter for ज्ञ. Even today in Sanskrit book the Sanskrit alphabets (Consonants) are from क to ह.

@@ravi-gx2qc2qz4r every Marathi speaker and Hindi speaker knows how they pronounce dnya, With Respect to Vedic chanting(vedas are in Sanskrit, not in Hindi or Marathi and Sanskrit is the world's oldest language) the pronounciation is done differently by Rugvedis and Yajurvedis.
