The Entertainer had a massive second run as a hit on the charts in 1973 when composer Marvin Hamlisch placed along side his own music and strung it throughout the masterfully comically suspenseful movie about gamblers starting Newman and Redford, The Sting. Easily one of the most memorable and enjoyable films ever made.

I would love the Pierce Arrow and on seeing this Packard I would love it. The rear passenger area looks so luxurious, perfect for the clothing of the day

Glad you dig this episode I can’t wait to cover some more cars actually can’t wait to go back to that show it’s left a lasting impression on me and Gary was right it did ruined me but we’re going to Hershey I’m going to spend three days they’re going to cover as much stuff as I possibly can. Hershey is different though they don’t drive the cars around like they do at this show. And that’s what makes it also if you ever go Saturday is the day to go they have what they call a parade at the end of the day all of the people can drive their cars at night with their lights on and that is awesome plus you’re in a town that has different types of streetlights some are electric some are gas Plus you have music in the background lots of like ragtime style piano music people dress the part it was an incredible atmosphere

This show is absolutely incredible Bill take anybody for a ride all you have to do is ask everybody is so nice and it’s almost like you go back in time for a weekend I was getting emotional walking around that was for sure because I was experiencing a time period that I should’ve been a part of you could go in all of the buildings or most of the buildings and when you push the door you actually have to push it because it’s not like pushing a piece of paper like it is now everything had a quality feel to it with the buildings and that’s something we’re lacking in this modern world..

Jay, you know I love Packard's and this beautiful packard is one of the reasons why. What a nice automobile.
The over the hood sections are even more impressive when viewed while you're actually riding in the car. Unbelievable that they actually had heating in the back of the car that was something that was unheard of in that time period. Talk about Packard being ahead of the curve.

Yeah this car was incredible I saw it drive by earlier that day and I was like wait what is that.. there is so much going on at that show it’s almost overwhelming especially for the very first time ever being there at the show very first time ever being at the Greenfield Village
Great choices I still can’t get over how smooth and quiet that engine is even when he reved it up it didn’t get loud

1 and 2, both Packard. I had to chuckle a bit when I first saw this car. The first thing that popped in my odd little head was "Welcome, to Downton Abbey"... LOL... What an amazingly beautiful AND complicated machine! Spark adjustment, air mixture, gear changes... talk about seriously driving a car! Could you imagine the PR nightmare of buying a vehicle nowdays, and a driver? Oy... 7 litres, 12 cylinders. and less horsepower than my '72 Pinto had. Technology and innovation has certainly come a very long way in a century. ONLY rear brakes? Jeeesh! Excellent job, Jay on reviewing this! And loved the little snippet about horseshoes. Little trivia things like that are great! It's true, you can learn something new everyday if you try!

    • @What.its.like.
      @What.its.like.  ปีที่แล้ว

Haha that would’ve been an epic Way to start I wish I would’ve thought of that. That car has that vibe.. That car was on the judge and green as well there was a lot of cars on the judge and green we got to do a Rickenbacker/ and Cole that was also on the judging green.. we got to go for a ride in the Cole the Rickenbacker/ that was the very first car that I saw. Super interesting can’t wait to tell the story I’m going to an AMC show on Saturday to film some stuff to separate the early stuff the channel doesn’t my audience isn’t into the early stuff but I want to cover the early stuff because there’s a lot more history to cover and I love talking about histories of companies that don’t exist anymore it’s like one of my favorite things. But also know that I got a cover what my base likes to watch because I don’t want it to become dry and we’ve covered a lot of 20s and 30s cars long stretch of that. So need to get some material to cut it up so to speak =)

@@What.its.like. Hey, throw whatever y like at us! And AMC's (and the companies that formed them before they merged) were awesome. A little out of the mainstream and usually ahead of their time. I mean, look at the Eagle. And what is everyone driving now? Wasn't it Nash that did the first unibody? (or was it Hudson?) Funny to think about, if any of those nameplates survived, they'd be under the Stellantis brand, which is from the Netherlands... We could be driving a 2023 Nash Cross Country which would be just a re-badged Vauxhall Grandland...

Hi Jay. Thanks for a look at a rare car. On the offset cylinder banks, it's particularly obvious on this one, but not unusual. You'd see a bit on a Ford flathead V8 for instance. On starting it with a crank, it's only a couple of years into the existence of the self starter, so the chauffeur would be expected to be able to crank start it. Seven litres would take some heft, but the compression wouldn't be much - like 4.5:1 or thereabouts. That probably also is a factor in the smoothness of the motor. Cars like this gave rise to the business of putting a coin on it's side atop a running motor. It looks like a largely original car - amazing!

That car was absolutely incredible it belong to General tire at one point they used to that as a promotional piece.. I couldn’t figure out where to work that into the video but there still if you type in Google packard imperial limo you’ll see all the advertisements that General tire used, it’s the same car
I still can’t get over how smooth it was we were going to do the coin track but it was not parked on level ground. And whisper quite

Hi Jay!: Now I KNOW you had a great time in Michigan! A ride in a Twin Six Packard!! What a COOL experience! And we all got to ride along!! SO EXCITING! You know, you just almost have to feel sorry for the wealthy original owner of such a fine machine! The Chauffeur got to have ALL the fun!! WYR#1 PACKARD! #2 This is a LOT harder! The Locomobile was also one FINE machine, and the Crane-Simplex. I mean Come on! Still have to go with the Twin-Six Packard!!

    • @What.its.like.
      @What.its.like.  ปีที่แล้ว

I wish you could’ve felt what I felt it was absolutely incredible and when the owner asked me when I was done with shooting it we could go for a ride I couldn’t believe what I heard. It was awesome experience I think we covered 15 cars when we were there and we got to ride in almost all of them there’s only a handful of ones that we didn’t ride in and that’s probably only because I didn’t ask to go for a ride. This show is the best show I’ve ever been to because it is what the Classic Car hobby should be. And in my opinion it’s the only way this stuff is going to get saved because a lot of this stuff doesn’t go to your average every day show you always see it at events like this or Concord event that you spend tons of money to go to.. this show I think it’s like $45 for entrance fee but you get a bracelet that get you in the park for both days both Saturday and Sunday Saturday is definitely the day to go not everybody goes back on Sunday Saturday they have this thing called a parade where they at night drive the cars through the streets with the acetylene lamps with the whole town is like that it’s an absolutely incredible experience and if you ever get the chance to go go don’t hesitate. Just go lol i’m going to promote the mess out of it next year when it gets closer to that time because I would love to see you guys go and experience it it is something definitely worth the drive to go to because there isn’t another experience like it, that I’m aware of.
3 1/2 gallons of oil though it’s starting to make me rethink if I want a twinsix Packard the maintenance costs alone just to have this car are astronomical.. so I think I’m going to revise my previous statement if I make it in this life I’m going to get a super eight.. but then again the twin six that comes in the second generation I don’t think are nearly as expensive to own their expensive don’t get me wrong they’re just not to the level that these were because they had a lot more refinement.. and I don’t think the crankcase is as big but I could be wrong
      Great choices =)

Off the top of my head here’s a list of all the cars that we covered during that show got the ride in most of them
      1917 Cole
1928 Rickenbacker I think it was a 28 I’ll have to double check that
      1929 willys knight
      1928 falcon knight
      1928 whippet
      1923 chandler
      1931 Chrysler cf
      1904 St. Louis
      1904 olds curved dash
      1917 franklin
      192? Franklin
1930 Hupmoblie that one I didn’t get to finish I didn’t get to do the dash I didn’t get to get inside of it or anything so I’m not sure just ran out of time..
      1926 Nash advanced 6
I think that’s it I might’ve missed one or two not sure but the sleeve valve episodes are going to be interesting because the guy explains how the sleeve system works which is awesome
Next year I want to try to get a group of people and go up there to that event it’s absolutely incredible I think it cost $40 to get in but I believe the wristbands good for the whole weekend.. Saturday is definitely the day to go Sunday there isn’t as many people there like they pack up and go evidently there’s a tour or some thing that they do on Wednesday Gary from the eye went with Gary from the museum I just met them up there =)

Jay…a story that is pertinent today, with the release of “Killers of the Flower Moon”.
The story is about the Packard dealer in Tulsa. A Osage chief comes into the dealer with his squaw and all of his kids in tow to buy a new Twin Six. As you said, most were coachbuilt, especially with all of the oil money in Tulsa back in those days. Most Osage bought Pierces or Packards.
The only car the dealer had in inventory was a hearse that had been ordered and then canceled by a mortuary. The dealer offered to order a new car to be custom built. The chief pulled out a wad of cash and loaded his family in the hearse. The dealer said he could never get the vision of all the kids looking out the hearse’s big windows as it headed back to the Osage reservation.

Another great car review. Note, as on many pre World War One vehicles, all the fittings were often made of brass. Due to supply constraints during World War One, the use of copper and other more precious metals for ammunition and other war materials, all cars switched away from brass to painted steel (Model T and some other cars) or nickel plating, then later to chrome. If it weren't for the wars, perhaps we would still have brass fittings on our cars today?

This car was incredible and it wasn’t that long of a car all things considered it was just really tall I mentioned in the video that I’m 6 foot two and it had probably 2 feet on me maybe more and sitting inside the greenhouse was 2nd to none
Some more history about this car this car belong to that collection out in Arizona I can’t think of the guys name it starts with an H he had a huge museum in Arizona general power went and bought six cars from the collection and that this is one of them. They use this car is a promotional piece but I couldn’t find any place in the video to talk about that because they didn’t have it in the beginning they only bought it from the museum to advertise her tires sort of after the fact.
It rode really nice some of those cars back then we’re really bouncy like we did a Nash the guy turned and I went with him

As far as motor oil is concerned, if it doesn't have an oil filter, it should ONLY use non-detergent oil. Without a filter, the non-detergent oil allows the heavier contaminants in the oil to fall to the bottom of the oil pan. Although there might be an oil drain plug, or oil drain cock(actuated by a rod accessible from the topside of the engine), there is s ump with a cleanable screen.
The main purpose of a modern detergent type of oil is to keep the contaminants suspended in the oil so that they can be removed by a filter.
A multi-weight oil is for a matter of convenience , so you don't have to change the weight of oil with the season. The problem is there are not any non-detergent multi-weight motor oils, so they are not for old cars. Using a detergent type of oil in an old car without a filter, the contaminants will end up in the bearings and shorten the life of the engine. Packards of this vintage use poured rod and main bearings. The shops that know how to do this are now far and few between.

2: One of each so I can drive them all.
That thing needs a custom built garage for it to even fit.

I have a 8 day eterna car clock in a brass case that looks like an easy mount to an early car. I have noticed that most cars cira 1920 only have Watham clock. I have not found cars that used the 8 day Eterna. I was hoping you could point me in the right direction of where and how the Eterna clock was used. The clock itself is quite common but the case that encloses the clock is well made in excellent condition has original purple felt. I am wondering perhaps this clock is an after market and attached to a circa 1920 following the purchase. The shape looks as though it would fit flush on the dashboard. I am most interested in knowing about the case that the clock fits in. The Watham clock from this 1917 would fit nicely in the case I have. I have pictures but not sure if I can attach them here. Thank you for any comment you have for me.

Packard could not have competed with Lincoln because does not 1917 predate 1921 when the first Lincoln appeared? Mr. Picky strikes again.

@@What.its.like. Well, a few more than 20 years ago I lost a relatively extensive automotive library and unfortunately am relying on memories of which I have forgotten more than most people ever knew (or maybe even cared to know). Mr Picky makes mistakes because of that, which is one of the reasons I like your videos. It is a trip down memory lane and I thank you 🫡😁🤯
