I love Billy West. when I met him, he was far more interested in hearing MY history of enjoying his work than he was eager to brag about himself. Such a genuine guy!
Gotta fix that audio man. Can't have an already loud and busy song being washed over your own audio. I'd suggest something more simple for music and turned down drastically lower.
No need for any music at all. That's the biggest failing of most teenager You Tubers. They THINK they have to have music, or they're too shy about the sound of their own voice and try to hide it with music. The best You Tube channels have NO MUSIC, just the narration.
The idea that rather than Nickelodeon’s audio equipment “didn’t work” and that’s why they made an episode without dialogue is incredibly stupid lol. Of course it either came down to money, (which seems to be the case) wanting to make an episode that references older slapstick comedy cartoons with no dialogue like Tom and Jerry, or both. I’m guessing it’s both Nick wanting to pay voice actors as little as possible as well as the storyboarding team for SpongeBob wanting to create an episode that stands out and also references cartoons from their childhoods. I think the episode really wouldn’t work as well with dialogue.
I honestly cant really imagine this episode working with a huge amount of dialogue because most of the scenes in the final short seem written with a lack of dialogue in mind. I imagine if any version with dialogue ever existed it was from before what the short even was got finalized. For all we know this could have been a segment from a scrapped regular length episode initially(like say maybe other scenes of spongebob doing yardwork with other tools but they settled on just the reef blower because the first half hour needed 3 minutes to fill) and this particular segment was never meant to have dialogue in the first place similar to how there were quite a few early spongebob episodes that had several minutes of no dialogue(like the song segment of jellyfish jam)
Again, I'm pretty sure what Billy West said about Nirvana and Ren and Stimpy was meant to be a joke, as again, they were both very popular in the early 90s. It's like joking that Blink182 was going to write the theme song for Totally Spies and it being scrapped. It's clearly a joke that Lost Media enthusiasts took way too seriously.
I mean, Walt Disney and Dalí wanted to make a movie together and in the end the only shot a few scenes (even though the project ended up existing in short film form long after they both died). And the same goes for the movie that Dalí was going to make in collaboration with the Marx Brothers. They were all at the height of their popularity at the time, so those projects should have been hits if only because of the names attached to them, but they were cancelled anyway.
6:54 What? That was a popular theory? Why? Nicktoons OFTEN had "weird experimental minisodes". And vewing Reef Blower, there's NO point where it seems like it was originally planned to have dialogue.... That literally feels like kids coming up with conspiracies cause they're bored or don't understand experimental works.
Same with the Squidward Snail scene. Like why would they even make that scene in the first place, the screenwipe is much more efficient and simply funnier
The theory about the Reef Blower situation is, kinda silly. Surely they would've been better off postponing recording until the equipment was fixed rather than rework an entire episode that would've likely been at the animatic stage at the very least.
It seriously never crossed my mind that there could've been dialogue for Reef Blower. I always saw it as the show just wanting to try a silent, slapstick-focused episode for funsies.
I still think Billy West misremembered Kurt Cobain instead of remembering Eric Stefani, who was both an animator and in No Doubt at the time. The time and places and job descriptions match up.
The episodes eric worked on were in the shows 3rd season, so we’d just have to work out how he’d have known about it before it was airing. Definitely worth an ask, I think.
Random idea about the Pablo thing: What if it was possibly used as part of the intro for Me & My Friends? Basically something like the Wiggles TV series in the 90’s, where the show in general is live action, yet the intro utilises CGI

Hey I just found a new piece of lost media that suddenly started getting resurfaced It's a cartoon shorts show named birth of a coda It's about a blue alien who keeps dying but taking time back to prevent it Lots of people remember it on cartoon network in 2010-2015 but it was also on french Regional channels from what I understand I remember watching it on a greek regional channel in around 2015-17 For a while there were only 3 episodes found, but now some random french kids channel started uploading the episodes
Someone download this video before he removes it and reuploads a fixed version so it too doesn't become lost media- 🤭 Jokes, jokes Bur seriously, the audio is all over the place.
The first song is really terrible and annoying, it goes absolutely nowhere musically and just sounds like cheap string samples played at random. It's also very loud compared to the voice volume. Usually the music is great or amazing even, but that was painful to try sit through.
Knowing the sort of person John K was, I wouldn’t doubt for a second that he probably *did* know who Kurt was and still refused. John has been confirmed to have done something similar to Robin Williams when he inquired about a guest role.
Literally none of these were shocking, nor were they twists. Also, that Yoshi pic looks like a gameplay mock-up rather than a screenshot. The phong shading on it is something you'd see in a rendered scene from 3D Studio Max or something, not anything you'd see on a gamecube.
in retrospect the reef blowers rumor really doesnt make much sense. if the audio equipment was broken wouldnt they just record the audio another day instead of reworking the whole episode
I don’t think this song during the Real Monsters segment was the best choice. Besides the mixing being less than stellar, it just sounds really rough. Maybe in a video game it could work, but Idk about an informative TH-cam video
19:21 There is a visual difference! The feet are only blue on the tips of the toes in the CGI Pilot and Final. In "Me and My Friends" and the Celluloid Studios Test animation, he has completely blue feet, which could mean the Celluloid Studio test came before the CGI Pilot, and the character design was based after the mascot costumes.

Ok, so I need to add my two cents about the leaf blower episode. I could be wrong but I remember that rumor. I heard it years ago before I even knew what lost media was and way before I ever watched videos about it. I definitely didn’t hear it from my friends because I was one of the only ones in my friend group that was allowed to watch SpongeBob. But I remember learning about that rumor and telling my mom about it. I have a lot of SpongeBob DVDs and a few VHS tapes and if my memory serves me correctly, I remember learning about the audio malfunction from a special feature on a DVD. I don’t remember learning about it from anywhere else. I would have to go back and rewatch all my SpongeBob material to see but I loved watching the special features sometimes more than the episodes themselves, so this is a very prominent memory for me. I can’t remember who said it in the special features but it was ether Stephen Hillenburg himself or one of the voice actors. It honestly could’ve just been them regurgitating the rumor because they didn’t know the real reason but I really remember hearing about it from one of them. I wasn’t on the internet all the time growing up because we didn’t have WiFi or unlimited internet so all I had was my DVDs, VHS tapes and some video games. So that means I almost had to have learned about it from one of those sources. If I remember anything else I’ll ether edit this comment or put it in the replies, but I am almost 100% positive that rumor is true and that we shouldn’t be so quick to believe that one guy who said it was false.
Im sorry all i read was "I was one of the only ones in my friend group that was allowed to watch SpongeBob" Were you 2 years old??? Or maybe, Did your friends live without TV all? Or did you simply have no friends? Something not adding up here. After reading the rest, i think i might have an answer tho. Regarding the video itself, if you feel that way then find it before spreading false information. Dont tell us what you think maybe might of happened, possibly, if you remembered right. One NEW piece of Nickelodeon lost media is the unaired Really Loud House episode "Tennessee-you-later: A Very Loud Road Trip", which was listed as an episode of Season 2 on IMDb and the Loud House wiki prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike ending. An episode with a similar title AND plot/synopsis, "The Tennessee Surprise: Love Is In the Air" was filmed after the strike ended, and aired as the third episode of Season 2 (or second if you count A Musical to Remember as one episode; I count it as two). You can also tell it was shot later because Lola's voice is so much deeper than the next few episodes (in broadcast/chronological order). Since that episode HAS to be played in that order for the story to make sense (since Lincoln breaks up with his S1 girlfriend in the ep, and gets a new girlfriend in the next few episodes), AND the fact that the various sites no longer list the other episode, these claims check out. The one thing I should mention about the scrapped version is that it was Thanksgiving-themed. Since it was filmed in late Jun or early Jul 2023, they probably figured they'd have the episode out by Thanksgiving of that year, but since the strike ended early, they decided not to do that. Another thing to add to that idea is that the Season 2 finale, set to air this Fall, is also apparently about Thanksgiving. Since this is such a recent show (with a lot of unfair bias against it as well), I feel like I'll never find out the whole story behind this since not a lot of interest would be had in the topic

Foreign correspondents aren’t at all a rare thing for gaming publications to have. That’s where all the hot scoops come from…
Did something happen that made you have to release a video in this state? Your other videos are clearly more competent than this.
I'm more intrigued by what controversy the cancelled movie script owner went through and why he disappeared
Hey
I just found a new piece of lost media that suddenly started getting resurfaced
It's a cartoon shorts show named birth of a coda
It's about a blue alien who keeps dying but taking time back to prevent it
Lots of people remember it on cartoon network in 2010-2015 but it was also on french Regional channels from what I understand
I remember watching it on a greek regional channel in around 2015-17
For a while there were only 3 episodes found, but now some random french kids channel started uploading the episodes
7:10 Why did pepole ever believe that? The episode was clearly made to be silent, its written and animated to not have dialogue
Someone download this video before he removes it and reuploads a fixed version so it too doesn't become lost media- 🤭 Jokes, jokes
Bur seriously, the audio is all over the place.
The first song is really terrible and annoying, it goes absolutely nowhere musically and just sounds like cheap string samples played at random. It's also very loud compared to the voice volume.
Usually the music is great or amazing even, but that was painful to try sit through.
I immediately clicked when I saw Pablo
Same
Yes.
what is this SONG bruh😭😭😭😭
Im so early that there was no sound
I'd actually assume the "Fred" the Real Monsters script was for would actually be Fred Seibert, that was my first thought
Yeah, that makes a lot more sense
the background music is much too loud :( it is extremely hard to hear the main audio over it at some points
Some of those segments having music louder than voice makes those parts unwatchable for me.
Who did the audio?
ngl the music for the first bit really doesn't fit
5:01 That piano 🎹 🔥
Knowing the sort of person John K was, I wouldn’t doubt for a second that he probably *did* know who Kurt was and still refused. John has been confirmed to have done something similar to Robin Williams when he inquired about a guest role.
Literally none of these were shocking, nor were they twists. Also, that Yoshi pic looks like a gameplay mock-up rather than a screenshot. The phong shading on it is something you'd see in a rendered scene from 3D Studio Max or something, not anything you'd see on a gamecube.
Welcome to TH-cam.
I think he wanted to know who made the mockup
Music was a bit too loud in the early bits of the video homie, but another great upload
The audio in the "Aah Real Monsters" segment is quite loud (and I find the track distracting). Can this be re-mixed/reposted, by chance?
No way! LSuperSonicQ got the guy who mixed Vultures 2 to mix his video!
in retrospect the reef blowers rumor really doesnt make much sense. if the audio equipment was broken wouldnt they just record the audio another day instead of reworking the whole episode
That Spongebob rumor was so Dumb holy shit
I don’t think this song during the Real Monsters segment was the best choice. Besides the mixing being less than stellar, it just sounds really rough. Maybe in a video game it could work, but Idk about an informative TH-cam video
Why are all these comments complaining about the audio? I don’t see any issues with it. I hear you just fine.
15:50 It's funny to think your being ignored just to keep the mystery alive? By funny you mean kinda conspiracy theory brain crazy narcassistic to think right?
Yeah I feel like a lot of lost media videos take a sort of conspiratorial lens that is really weird.
@@namingisdifficult408 Thanks for this comment bc it's like sometimes, am I the crazy one or is everyone else just riding high on conspiracy juice in the comments. It's a kind of harmless example of conspiracy-ism so I dont want to totally yuck other peoples yum but I worry it could rub off thinking wise
“The music is too loud” not really, you can hear him just fine. Yeah it could be a few decibels quieter but you can still hear just fine.
literally dont understand complaints on audio mixing, mostly because im used to this kinda stuff lmao
Uploaded right as my head hit the pillow. Perfect video to fall out to.
19:00 probably an animation test
There is a good chance the SpongeBob rumor originated because some of the dubs had voices, if I remember correctly, Mexican dub had SpongeBob saying "tu" (You in Spanish) in a guttural tone
This background music is really annoying. Sorta takes me away from the video 😔
Just in time! Have my food and ready to sit down and watch :)
@12:02 To me, his original comment sounded like Cobain wrote a song, as in sheet music, which was thrown away. It does not sound like he recorded anything, which still gells with the tweets.
Exactly.
The music makes this video nearly unwatchable. Chaotic music is a bad choice, even more of a bad choice to have it so loud to the point where people cant hear you or focus on the video😬😂
17:52 the pablo design looks like pingu
He also looks like he's from animal crossing
I love your channel but please consider re-uploading with the music turned way down, my ADHD brain cannot handle it because I can't focus on what you're saying (which is why I follow your videos! I like your insight!).
The background music is kinda cool but you really messed up the audio mixing this time lol
I have a mystery. Where did the Austin concept art come from? It's on the me and my friends article but it's a mystery.
im sorry but the audio mixing during the ahh real monsters bit is horrible the music is louder than you
The Reef Blower theory makes no sense. Audio equipment failing wouldn't matter, since animation takes longer than recording dialogue.
Are you aware of their animation process, the demands they were under, and the scheduling of all the cast/crew?
I didnt think so...
@@jordanekl5383 this is the most melodramatic comment response i have ever seen. kudos! it's really not that deep!
@@kittiegoat I would call it sassy. But if you wanna put a melodramatic tone to it, thats your choice. Not my fault at all that you like to assume the worse of people and add your own imaginary tone to it.
But all i said was facts, nether of us know the full story here, and people like OP are making an ass of themselves by assuming so much. Also, its not deep at all. This is very basic stuff. Surface level thinking, no effort needed.
So whats your excuse for being melodramatic wank about my post?

if i hear about a day with spongebob squarepants one more time i swear to god
Was NOT expecting the me and my friends pilot in this video. I didnt even know it existed until now.
What was the controversy you mentioned at 3:42? If you don't mind saying, that part peaked my interest and curiosity.
Please remix audio. It's too distracting
That Aaah! Real Monsters story is such a rollercoaster
Truly the twists of all lost media time.!.!
WHAT I CA- I CANT HEAR YOU SOMETHING ABOUT SPONGE BOB??
Whats that??? I cant hear you over the 1,000 other comments saying the exact same thing over and over again
I thought the reef blower episode was silent, because it was still the characters introduction
Thats just ludicrous!
@@jordanekl5383 No, I had friends growing up but I don’t think they were allowed to watch it. Now that I think of it maybe a few of them could but maybe only 1 or 2 of them. The others weren’t allowed because “the show was too inappropriate”. I know for a fact that 4 of them weren’t allowed. I could very well be wrong about the episode though, if I’m wrong then I’m wrong, I’m just saying what I remember.
@@BobbiRakus Ok... Yeaaaaaaa, sure.
I think i may of been right with my assumption on that answer.
@@jordanekl5383 Ok, believe what you want to believe but you can’t tell me you’ve never heard of kids not being allowed to watch SpongeBob. Also, they were Catholic so. I am too, but my parents were a little less strict about what I could watch. Although I think not being allowed to watch SpongeBob is ridiculous.
@BobbiRakus I never told you anything about what I believe, nor even stated that I have a belief about you. Just assumptions and guesses.
And you for sure can't tell me what I have experienced and/or herd about in my life.
You are for sure a catholic tho, you've made that much very apparent with your hipocrytical little rant there, eh.
I always just thought Reef Blowers was silent as a stylistic/Comedic choice
Pixar Planet showing up in this video gave me a nostalgic whiplash something fierce... I was a frequent poster there. I miss forums. Discord servers don't feel the same, man.
This video is unwatchable due to the super loud music. Not a good choice for what seems like it would be an otherwise interesting video
...Yeah, gonna echo what the others are saying. The music is... horrid and loud. And I try not to use derogatory terms like "horrid" in feedback. It's hard for me to believe that the music is made by the same guy you normally have featured unless he was doing a direct homage to Resident Evil's "Clowns Farting In The Basement".
love the video, the music is weird but it adds to the lost media vibe of the video 😅
