Having fished multiple s in different sizes and colors, th-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 this is by far my favorite. One thing to be aware of is the sided willow blade. One side is silver and the other is the green/orange shown. This is not bad, just unconventional. In terms of fishing, I have found the lure works just fine without a tail like a craw or shad. That addition is up to you. Also, the hook part where you attach the swivel snap or tie the line is a problem on baits these days, since it's able to slide up and down. However this lure seems to be tight enough that that doesn't happen often, and you can solve it by putting a thin slice of medical tube over the hook before attaching the line. Like others have said, it's really magic on a good windy day.
Hey Jon! Dead sand fleas actually work great as bait because they aren't able to dig themselves into the sand and hide. Also you can stack multiple on the hook for the bigguns.
*6 mins into watching- I love the Cape! I fish there all over every summer for weeks! If you had asked me some questions I could’ve really helped you out a lot. Already, I would’ve suggested you throw something different with a change in presentation, and I wouldn’t have casted out straight like you first did. Fishing saltwater up north is a completely different ball game than freshwater down south! My favorite fishing is southern saltwater, without a question. I was born on the Cape in Barnstable. Dad is from Falmouth and I’ve fished that beach before lol. I used to do this all the time when I was younger. I’d find and scrounge around for live bait, lures, terminal tackle, and build up my tackle box with all the lures, rigs, and terminal tackle I found. I found reels and rebuilt them, bait and filet knives... everything. I was real young and didn’t have really any money to spend. Anyway, I caught big blues, stripers, flounder... on tackle I spent days searching and finding, and fixing. Now, if you want to get a little kid into fishing up there, all you need is a 2k or 3k reel on a 6’ to 7.5’ rod with some 20LB to 30LB mono, some double drop rigs, 2oz weights, and they’re set. Tell them to go find bait. Or buy them some shrimp, clams, squid, blood worms... depends. Me? I found it all! They’ll be fishing for Scup which are extremely plentiful up there, fun to reel in on a small medium light combo, and will bite all day. Good eating and all you need is some butter on a pan with salt on em. I actually just barely had the record scup caught from the shore on the Cape, believe it or not! So close! I’d insert the pictures in the comments if I could, of the scup, as well as my 100% beach finds tackle box. Now, to watch the rest and see what else I can point out😂. ***if I don’t comment afterwards, I’ll say one more thing- you NEED to get Four Seas Ice Cream after a good day of fishing.
*14 mins in- I chuckled a bit when you started looking for sand fleas. You won’t hardly get a thing with those on the Cape how you were. You’re looking for the wrong live bait. You aren’t fishing the best spots(no way I’ll tell you mwahaha). Where you caught the little striper was the best spot you’ve fished on the video so far, and I’m not saying that because you caught one there. Regarding your tide comment, you have it somewhat correct. The key is fishing an hour before slack tide, to an hour after. That’s the money time zone. Slack high or slack low depends on where and when you are up there.

*all the way through- good job on the fluke! That looked a little small to keep if you ask me, but hey, they taste Great!! I’d have made a flounder rig, but I’d guess you weren’t fishing for those and just had a lucky catch on that one. Alright, time to sleep and throw some freshwater gear in the Silverado tomorrow and rip some lips after work! Tight lines y’all, Yee-Yee from NC!🤠🎣🔧
I appreciate you wearing your gopro without having the straps twisted it twists my ocd up into knots when I see them twisted marling baits is criminal at it :)))))))
Love the challenge! I found a little green jerk bait on the beach like four years ago, and I'm pretty sure I've caught more Striper on it than anything I've bought at the store.
Try a fish-what-you-find in north Jersey. No shortage of perfectly good, abandoned fishing lures here. I've found multiple poppers, a jerkbait, a lipless crank, a million and one jig heads, some good plastics, a shaky head, a ned head, a good amount of spinners, a phoebe spoon, and loads of other stuff. And that's just lures. I've also found a crazy amount of hooks, split-shot, swivels, and bobbers. If you went out in a boat, you could probably even find some of my snagged lures in low-hanging trees, depending on where you go (if anyone wants three Gary Yamamoto cranks, a popper, a jerkbait, or some shitty homemade baits, launch your boat out on Lake Surprise in the Watchung Reservation and look in the trees).
I've never fished that far up on the East coast Jon but thank thanks for the education and entertaining vlog. I wish you all the luck and tomorrow's journey. So keep on fishing never stop.
Jon B...something I've noticed. Why don't you get a pair of neddlenose pliers to accompany you to assist getting hooks out sleeping bags, fish, etc.? Either way, love the vlog...I'll keep fishing!
Youn Plugg!!! Another banger! Might as well just hit the thumbs up! Living that life my man, good for you! Got those #KFNS wrist bands, diggin em! Thank you. KFNS
I know you're out of there now but when you go back stop at one of the many wonderful cape tackle shops and pick up a few actual saltwater plugs. A pencil, darter, needle, swim shads, metal lip. You may catch more. And I realize the point of this video is to only fish what you find. That plug you had stuck in your sleeping bag would work.
And when you hook a sand flea you should hook through the back and out the insides incase something smaller wants to eat the inside and the hook is exposed to their mouth great videos man keep up the good work👍
I love how he reacts. Repeats the same thing over and over. I love it lol that's a good striper that's a good striper that's a good striper that's a good fish it's a good fish omg omg omg omg
You may have only caught a few fish but this video was still awesome. You edit so good Jon. Love your videos and like the salt water videos too. I've always fished bass, trout and fresh water stuff till I moved to the south coast in Oregon. Now I get to fish for salt water too and am loving it. Chinook Salmon are in the rivers now and have already landed a few over 30 pounds.
You should fish the sandbars. Find a beach that the tide goes far out. Get there at low tide and fish the incoming tide. In Brewster were I live there’s 2 beaches that go really far out. Breakwater and pains creek.
Great to you still fishing New England. Why is it I've lived here my entire life and never seen a sand flea? RIP Falmouth sand fleas death by milk bottle.
water level at the local lake has dropped quite a bit so i'm keeping my eye out for treasures lol. found something very useful the other day, something i actually wanted to try out too
I think its time to do that same scenario (near home) as a Survival Challenge. Bring your tent, sleeping bag and knife. Fish with only items you can find and scavenge up. Bring Rob with you ... so at least you know you wont' die. Googan Challenge?
Thanks for the shoutout my dude 👊 Looking forward to that challenge u proposed! 🎣😈
