Man, the lyrics are so original. I love how they mixed sci-fi with metaphors. Also now that we have VR glasses, the lyrics are even more relevant. This band deserves to be much bigger.
This song deserved wayyyyyy more coverage! I loved/still love it to this day as one of my favorite Human Abstract songs, I loved the deep vocals and those insane sounding sweeps!!
@djentleman578 😂 I didn't even notice i wrote that or why I wrote Between the Buried until your comment came in. Thanks for the bump! Guess I was so pumped with the song I even wrote the wrong name in my comment hahaha 🤟😎🤟
For CWG - The Human Abstract - Digital Veil - February, 2011 Upon hearing The Human Abstract’s 2006 release, Nocturne a few years ago at the urging of a forgotten friend, I felt something heavily Socratic, a booming philosophy of the music being greater than the sum of its parts. “The unexamined life is not worth living.” I felt as if the sound of The Human Abstract was meant for a different reality, one in which we can all philosophize freely and we have all accepted death not as something to be feared, but as that very simple great equation that binds every last breathing individual. “Death may be the greatest of all human blessings.” It is the echo of that magnificent Greek, Socrates, and his willingness to accept his punishment that, at the end, we'll know “true wisdom comes to each of us when we realize how little we understand about life, ourselves, and the world around us.” On that accord, The Human Abstract, since the release of the monumentally-intelligent Nocturne, has had several lineup changes, released Midheaven in 2008, and feasted upon the yoke of a frenzied dynamism for years, for I see absolutely no other way that they could have possibly stored enough energy, conceptual progressive mania, or intense goddamn talent to release such a beautifully heavy album as Digital Veil. The album, much like the phenomenal sex that my Greek Goddess Alethea and I had while tasting the thing for the first time, begins in a slow, caressing tone with Elegiac. The skin so soft and the moans almost sorrowful, all the while in the flickering light retaining the heavy breathing that is surely a prerequisite to ecstasy. Her beauty is an astonishing representation of what all women aspire to hold in the mirror, if only for a moment to become a goddess… Flawless. And her taste is that of conquering a new world, fresh and incomparable. Digital Veil continues on with Complex Terms, as the night does, with the harmony of a classical trance of metallic oblivion, The Human Abstract’s definitive sound... One of progression, chorus ensembles of vocally-powerful messages, scaling guitars vaulting that message to an epicenter of tribute. If ever a Metal band were to light the sky above the Acropolis with an apocalyptic wave of crushing beauty streaming in from seas abound, the Parthenon shaking by the hand of Zeus himself, that band would undoubtedly be The Human Abstract. “Music is distinguished from all the other arts by the fact that it is not a copy of the phenomenon, or, more accurately, the adequate objectivity of the will, but is a direct copy of the will itself.” - Nietzsche. As beautiful as many of Digital Veil’s moments are, the heaviness is by no means forgotten. The Human Abstract has a destructive style unto themselves, which very few bands have even touched upon. Like that of Vesuvius, the bodies of the sleeping, the weeping, the fucking, and the drunk are left under piles of ash and rock. They are left in the shade, motionless and with the last thought being of an astounding sound, never expected, but worthy of one’s final moment. There are screams, breakdowns, solos, definitely one of Metal’s most intelligently ambitious bands, and in the end, it is completed to precision. One of Digital Veil’s most memorable goddamn moments of brutality is both the opening and closing of its subsequent namesake: a righteous scaling of straightforward snarled headbanging groove. With an electronic feel, the track is sure to dissipate the weak from the strong with blast beats, amazing drum fills, a HEAVY AS FUCK groundwork of all things The Human Abstract. “Pull Me From The Gallows Of This Fiber Optic Nation!” It should also be noted that the last minute and a half of the track is so intensely heavy, and stocked full of so much fucking grit that my woman and I were caught in some sexually majestic cosmic glory and we came together like some otherworldly clashing of two incredibly powerful gods. The sweat, the sex, the candlelight, the taste of her still on my lips powering every solid thrust… Epic. Digital Veil is a perfect continuum of The Human Abstract sentiment. No band on Earth can both calm the nerves with its complex beauty and propel a revolution with it grueling heaviness as they can. Obviously, I’ll cease the second by second literal playback of the album at this point to simply expel the fact that it is amazing. The production quality coupled with the band’s incredibly talented members create a sound that seems to be powered by that great hand in the sky, crushing and life-giving in a single moment. Minutes of chaotically frenzied heaviness are halted by the occasional eye of the storm with a feel of the Romantic Period, classically mythic, and then propelling into the hurricane once again. Truly original, and when all is said and done years away from now, a tragedy will be born from The Human Abstract’s finest moments, many of which are on Digital Veil. “Music…if regarded as an expression of the world, is in the highest degree a universal language.” - Nietzsche. Alethea, the apex of all great things that I have, and wish to accomplish in this short life, contributed to this review immensely. Subservient in the bedroom as needed, and masterful like no other woman when she wants to be. With the eyes of God’s own prophet, and a smile that could ease any man into death without fear, she is my muse and my woman… And now a fan of The Human Abstract as well. Thank you.
I found them similar due the creativeness of guitar work. There are a lot if complicated guitar players, but its all in the arrangement and order of those that makes a composition sound so beautiful and another one a senseless mess of numbers.
Just got back from their Raleigh show. They blew the fucking house down. Richter did a great job, and they played everything perfectly, while still maintaining a good stage presence. That's hard to do. I've seen a lot of bands live and THA is definitely one of the best.
I'm in love with the message of the son. I hate how the internet, and electronics have become so ridiculously prevalent and necessary in our lives. I mean, I use the internet, but my life doesn't depend on it. It's all because people are lazy, and want things faster, and easier. That's what the electronics and such are suppose to do. But.. it's a bit much. Even a lot of the gyms are starting to get machines. Where will it stop? Probably no where. Vented. Thanks for reading. xD
I'd never thought i'd see the day these guys would break up. this was literally my favorite band. i don't know what to do with the music side of my life now. bands come and go. will my band that im in right now even go far? and then break up? i mean, were doing good right now. i dont know why you guys called it quits, just over a singer problem. you guys had something.... instrumental wouldn't hurt anyways.

@RmpcSquared no stage presence? are you kidding? maybe in this video they don't, but when i saw them live, the guitar player literally played a solo while crowd surfing. the band was constantly jumping around, very high energy. they definitely had the best stage presence out of all the bands there
what is that opening scale? i hear it everywhere but i can’t find the name for it. it’s also in a lot of dream theater songs and is most present in the zelda 1 dungeon theme
@gaara1303 actually i don't mind who the vocalist is, The human abstract is so good but i'm only a really huge fan of nocturne so i'm just thinking how great it will be to see nathan and AJ minnette together
In a way, yeah. Except without the thrashy guitar tone. Like PTH plays in a half step down with a crunchy tone, where as THA plays in drop C or D standard with more of a metal tone. However, they are really similar. Loved both for the past 4 years :D
@goodboy196 ya dude check out periphery, the contortionist, tesseract, vilhjarta or however you spell it, sikth, there are many progressive style bands out there
It's been 9 years and I still can't forget this song. Just too good
Age is setting in bro
I just randomly saw a post about them on Facebook. I totally forgot about this band

Same here. It's been 10 years for me

Such a talented band. Wish they stayed together and did an Australian tour. Bodies would fly
This guy has one of the best vocals in my opinion.
2019 -- this is still my my favourite heavy album in the last 15 years
I miss first listening to it back in the day. Such a unique banger right here. This album is in my top 10 of all time.
Still an amazing masterpiece. More relevant today too
R.I.P.*, I faithfully await your return..
This band was so slept on. I fucking love me some human abstract ❤️
Such a talented group of guys. This album is still one of the best releases of the past 20 years. Wish they'd come back!
wow over two years later and this song still sounds so futuristically technical!
8 years later now... still does.

So proud of my home town.
Los Angeles baby!

This album and their first one were just masterpieces. Plain and simple.
It's weird that the vocalist is also a guitar player for FFTL. Both bands still cool in their own ways. 🤘

I listen to this song all day long! It never gets old.
I've always said the members in this band were musical genius's ever since Nocturne. Still stand by that.
Some of the best screams I've ever heard
It's funny because Travis's screams sound nowhere near this good in From First to Last
8/10. Not enough hair flipping

Ankit Mishra The HAARP Machine! Like these guys but with Arabian Influences instead of classical!

this should be the bowser fight music In Mario
This is one of the tightest metal bands I have heard in a long time.
From First To Last singer in Human Abstract. This is awesome!
I like how the guitarists right arm is super buff because of his technical stance

I need a reunion album or tour so pissed I missed seeing them in high school 😑
Music that is fantastic in many regards plus meaningful interesting lyrics? Yes.. I think this is what music is about.
its like they're concentrating so hard on playing that they cant move. Give them a few years and they'll be able to go crazy on stage.
