      They are all beautiful, once you get the passion. I get a thrill from particularly beautiful and individual guitars.
      Has to be a positive reaction, though, right?
      I know someone who destroyed two of my beloved instruments. Can you imagine the kind of mind that destroys musical instruments?
      Getting back on track, I love all instruments, especially guitars, lately. Just wish someone would teach me.

    Like some others I am also a new player. Starting lessons with you, before I have even bought a guitar! Learning music theory, fretboard, terms, scales, chords...the way you present the same material as others is what works for me. I find your descriptions not only helpful and beneficial then the demonstration and application of said theories makes everything click. Just watching has been great. I did make a poor attempt at drums as a teen, always had rhythm and a ear for tone and timing so I feel further ahead in just absorbing material from you. Thx Mike!

    Been playing guitar on and off again for longer than I would like to admit. The reason Mike is so good at teaching is because he doesn't have those, "look what I can do moments" while teaching. The little moments of here is where it leads is also very helpful to new players. Light at the end of the tunnel type thing.

    Excellent! I really liked the step-by-step process. I'm going to make that into a chart to hang on the guitar stand.
    I like those strums and will be working on those.
    You reminded me that each string has an octave. The musical "math" is amazing: the octave pattern is the same on each string--open string pluck, then 2 frets, 2 frets, one fret, 2 frets, 2 frets, 2 frets, one fret. There are the 8 "do-re-mi" notes we all know.
    And that is "My Girl"-- C . . . D E G A C, C . . . D E G A C I'll put that riff into my practice.
    Keep up the good work!

    AS 1 of your students from the website, I'm doing everything you stated here up to the point of the 3 Minor chords, thats my next step. You actually answered one of my questions on metronome strumming . I tried to match the beat on your example strumming and it come out to 120, so thats the speed I practice at. Its way too fast for me to be honest so Ill crank it back to 80 as you showed here. I do a lot with the metronome, I'm one of those nerd that like walking away feeling like I did algebra.

    2 really good Metallica tunes I play often, to practice on and to warm up with!! Well and plus their just fun little tricky patterns that you have to have Rhythm to make it sound correct!! One track I use Alot to warm-up my wrist and fingers is off their debut album Kill Em' All....the main starting riff well it plays pretty much throughout the song is ...."Jump In The Fire" it definitely helps practice my wrist strength and my muscle memory when I first learned to play that riff I had a hell of a time trying to 1st remember the pattern to play it as fast as on the record and 2nd was to finally practice it enough that now I can play that riff without looking!! And my 2nd Metallica riff I use to practice/warm up with is Metallica's 5th studio album their "Self-titled album" but most people call it "The Black Album" and the song I like to practice on is "Through The Never" that intro riff.....it's fairly easy to play the right frets but the sort of hard part is remembering the correct pattern on which strings on which fret in what order? Soo that took some time to learn and it does definitely help to first start out just slowly learning the pattern of the riff once you know what strings and frets then it's about keeping the pattern right and playing it at the speeds it's played on the album and that's where it can get tricky but In my option it's a great riff to warm up on and of course Seek and Destroy is a fun one to play to aswell!!

    And speaking of "Spider Exercises" one I can think of I play often because of how cool it sounds and it's just fun to play!! Is off Nirvana's Unplugged album with their cover of David Bowie's "Man Who Sold The World" .......I'm really not sure what you call this specific part in the song I'm talking about maybe it's called "The Bridge" of the song.....or actually it may be considered just the Chorus of the song.....but the part where Kurt is singing...."Who Knows?...Not Me, We Never Lost Control....Your Face.....To Face.....With The Man Who Sold The World!!" So during that part where he's singing all that.....RIGHT before Kurt starts playing the main riff you hear as soon as the song starts.....but it's played down low, towards the top of the fretboard but it's definitely a "spider exercise" and I've been practicing that part Soo much that now I can play it actually faster than the normal recording and can do it without looking!! But that's also a REALLY GREAT exercise to work them fingers and it's fun to play and sounds cool

      Try learning with tabs videos some simple songs that you love, 1 or 2 of them. That's what I started with, not scales or anything but 4 months in jamming Metallica every day the theory stuff doesn't seem nearly as daunting now.

    • @totallyfrozen
      @totallyfrozen ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hope it works out well for you, Freddie. The importance of having an organized, planned out practice session cannot be over stated. I think all of us have wasted lots of time noodling around on chords and scales and playing with effects and gear.
      I think following the organized plan he lays out in this video will help you make progress quickly. I love Rock, Blues, and Metal but I, personally, practice on acoustic because I want to HEAR my accuracy and HEAR every mistake. I don’t want distortion to hide anything at all-because later it will come back to bite.
