    I got the 1-ton chain hoist from Harbor Freight last year and love it. I mainly use it to lift my riding mower vertical to service the mower deck, change blades, etc. Works like a champ. Interesting to see how they work inside, thanks for a great video! 👍

    This classic hoist is very safe since it uses redundant system as pointed out on 1:08. The inventor is a genius - out from this world.

    Hello
    I have a hoist that when it raises the load at half height, is stopped.
    The chain keeps turning but the load does not go up anymore.
    Why?

    Fantastic video. Chain hoists are cheap and very strong lifting tools. I use one for pulling out heavy motors and gearboxes and it works a treat. Keep making these great videos.

    Hello, Wondering if you could help me out. Had a question on a test that asked whats the weakest component in the chain hoist. The upper hook, the lever, the chain or the load hook? thanks

    What is the "most common cause/reason" that a chain will jam or stick when lifting or lowering a load with this type of chain hoist? We spent a lot of time today in playing about trying to get a new chain hoist to allow us to lower it and sometimes to raise it. I didn't pull the cover off to expose anything, but I am wondering if the chains have to be in a straight vertical line or what? Any thoughts about that? Our chain hoist is just like the one you show in your video, but it is a 2 ton one with no handle to work it. Is it possibly a pawl inside that is causing the issue?

    is chain hoist better than electric hoist? i need tools for lifting stuff under 200kg, but still cannot decide chain hoist or electric hoist, disadvatage or advantage the two of them, thank you very much

    What is the load capacity for a chain hoist like this? Would it be possible to rig a platform to make an elevator? The reason I'm asking is my basement entry is not long enough to have a stairway that would be comfortable to walk down and still be contained so the area can be closed evenly with the existing wall in the basement.

    • @bavettabuilds
      @bavettabuilds  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can get them in all sizes, here are some examples: www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result?q=hoist
      Also check northerntool.com
      The force to lift anything is very small. The hardest thing is to find something to hang the hoist from that can also handle that load. They sell some pretty cool Gantry Cranes on northerntool.com that you can use to connect the hoist to, so check those out but they are pretty expensive.

    i have a chain hoist patented 1878 that tell s me a little bout its age BUT ONLY because developements were so fast ,change meant they quit making early hoists...IT MUST BE a worm gear hoist BC it will not coast but a worm gear must be rolled backwards to lower it.....an early,simple braking mechanism.....am I right..just guessing

    • @MsSomeonenew
      @MsSomeonenew 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably fell out of favor since chain hoists get a much better power range with that gearbox, and they don't need a gigantic pulley on the working end to achieve that.

    @1:07, the guy said 990 degrees offset, i was wondering if its actually 45 degrees offset. because 4 teeth on each gear means teeth are 90 degrees apart already. to ensure that 1 tooth is engaged at all times, it should be 45 degrees.
    Please correct me if i am wrong. thanks

    If yours will lift but not release, chances are the clutch friction disk are stuck to their mating plate.
    Sometimes a hard taping will loosen. If not take apart the clutch and put back.

    Winches aren't safe for lifting since it doesn't have a redundant system and doesn't prevent free fall.

    • @BladeXDNumeroUno
      @BladeXDNumeroUno 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      By winches you mean lever hoists?
      Of course they prevent free fall, I've tested over 1000 pull lifts and never had a load drop on neutral as the brake activates when weight is applied.
      Chain blocks are actually more prone to dropping a load partly due to the bad design on some models, some of them don't have a self locking nut to hold the main pin which is on the gear side, which means a decent knock to the side of the chainblock could completely knock the top hook out of the block if the nut has came off and I've saw quite a few that have.

    • @sampurvis504
      @sampurvis504 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      BladeXD NumeroUno . the majority of manufacturers do not fasten the top hook load pin in at all, instead they rely on contoured cases to hold the pin in. to be honest a top hook load pin should never fall out as the force is transmitted vertically. even with a big knock the load pin would not fall out under load at all. and as far as redundant systems are concerned all the block my company uses ( we are a lifting equipment specialist btw) are twin pawl design meaning if one of the pawls for the ratchet fails the other is still there as a backup

    The ratchet keeps the load from backdragging the hand wheel, OK. When you go into the lowering direction what keeps it from dropping the load? I know there are friction plates in there but how do they work?

    Cabestanele cu lant sunt ieftine mai ales in talciocuri , mai durabile decat troliu capestan manual cu cablu de otel , pot fi actionate din orice directie din camera , nu necesita un perete pe care sa se prinda o manivela ..
    Merita investit in asa ceva si in cateva suruburi de bagat in tavan si legat de pat la cei care se scoala greu din pat , intarzie la doctor , amana sa mearga sa plateasca impozite etc .. Sau merita cumparat tije filetate , piulite , saibe pt bagat in pereti laterali , sau in partea de sus la tocuile usilor si niste lanturi sau cabluri ieftine legate intre acestea ...
    E pacat ca cabestane manuale sa stea nefolosite in garaje , beciuri , sa nu fie puse la lucru .
    Intrun film cineva isi ridica bagajele grele dela piata - sacose cu pepeni folosind un troliu electric ..
    Par un reductor silentios si pt un motor de bicicleta , are raport de reducere parca 19/ 1 , greu de gasit un reductor cu asemenea raport .. Dar totusi la turatii mari sar putea sa faca mult zgomot .. !?

    • @carmelpule6954
      @carmelpule6954 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a threaded part on the input shaft which when turned to raise the load , will cause a gear wheel to move axially and a this axially moved gear wheel on the input shaft will cause the friction clutch to push against the ratchet wheel and the pawl will click to raise the load.
      When the input shaft is turned the other way to lower the load, the thread on it will lift the threaded gear through an axial movement, this will lift the friction clutch to produce less friction causing the load to lower itself but this lowering will axially move a gear wheel to push the clutch back to press against the ratchet wheel.
      The secret is in the threaded part on the input shaft which causes an axial movement on the intermediate gear wheel which will press of lift the friction plate on to the ratchet wheel.
      I tired to make is simple but there are good diagrams to supplement my explanation on the mechanical brake in a hoist.

    Despues de decadas puedes encontrar cuerpos descompuestos debajo esos aparatos en muchos talleres y graneros donde su dueño o alguien que sabia que estaba ese aparato se ahorco
    Incluso dos o tres cuerpo si alguien llega y esta otro colgado lo baja y lo deja a un lado para ahorcarse el ..
