      Get a cheap dual sport bike, MX boots, helmet, gloves, body armor and knee pads. Take the bike out on some tight trails in the dirt, sand or gravel. Ride hard on tight trails. You will still be going slow and are unlikely to get hurt when you drop the bike. You'll break some mirrors and turn signals off the bike unless you remove them first; otherwise the bike is unlikely to get seriously damaged except for cosmetic stuff. Anyone with a dual sport that isn't scuffed-up some rides like a sissy. You'll get used to dropping the bike pretty quick and realize it isn't a big deal.

Upon standing it straight, i forgot to turn the gear to neutral, i squeezed the throttle and voila! i got dragged about a meter. my knee was badly wounded. but thats not it, i panicked and because of shame i try quickly tried to stand the bike, then i squeezed the throttle... a 2nd drop. I went down about 8 times,pushing my limits to fully understand what my boundaries are. I accelerated through turns to know what my grip is like under different weather conditions.
    Now I know the critical importance of not coming into a turn "too hot",not tailgating,not taking off the instant a light goes green,feeling the difference between dry and wet pavement and having better throttle control.

    I am an older rider, had plenty my share of dropped motorcycles. The worst was on the Dallas North Tollway, at a tollbooth years ago. I was on a BMW RT and stupidly stopped on the middle hump, it just started raining and I went down. It took what felt like half an hour and at least six people trying to help, to get righted. It was so dang slick. It was early October and it had not really rained for months. We looked like six laurel and hardy's or three x2 stooges. Finally the toll booth person came out with some cat litter and all was good. Did I mention that it was Friday at 5pm going north bound and traffic had really stacked up behind us? There was a bunch of a'holes honking and what looked like three cars that had crashed into each other trying to get out of my lane. Oooppps. I hadn't noticed during the whole event, but my left little finger was out of joint at the hand. One of the people who stopped was an ER nurse. She saw it while I was thanking all who stopped. She said, oh honey, let me see that. You should maybe... Bam, she jerked that finger right back into place without me knowing it was coming! After a brief moment of profanity, I thanked her and we all went our separate ways. If that were today, someone or one(s) would have had a bunch of youtube views for sure.

    For fear#3, I understand being the slowest one the group. I warned two guys that I rode with once that I could be the slowest one in the group. They were perfectly fine with that. When it came to the highway run, they were surprised cause I would be keeping up on their tail the entire on just my zx6r, while they were on a FJ1300 and a GXSR1000. The corners though were where I was slow, and the guy on the FJ purposely stayed behind me the whole time to help me up in case I dropped my bike. I did go off the road when a turn became too tight all of a sudden, but brought it back as I rode through someones yard for a moment. They gave me props instead of scolding me for being so controlled and not crashing when they both thought I did. Sometimes being the one who has the least experience has the best rewards in the end of the day.

    The highway fear is because of the speed. If you drop your bike doing 25 in a residential you'll get some scrapes. If you drop on the highway at 75 you may not get up. MSF teacher said don't get up to speed until you're comfortable; nothing worse that someone without riding confidence going too fast for their own good.

    • @Real_MisterSir
      @Real_MisterSir 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      That MSF teacher needs to be fired - at least if that's an advice they give to people who are about to take their test. If you are not comfortable at all road legal speeds (+ a bit more), then you should not be riding a bike in the first place. Being scared of high speeds is just an accident waiting to happen, as fear itself is one of the main contributors to unforced errors - not just on bikes but in general.

    • @Sizukun1

      I am far more cautious riding in town and on country roads than on the freeway. Not to say that I'm not paying attention or overly comfortable on the freeway it's just like the pube said in the video; there are far fewer things out there to get you on the freeway than in town or the country. You don't have dogs or pedestrians darting out, cars turning left in front of you, cars pulling directly in front of you etc. While the speeds are definitely faster on the freeway, taking a car on 35-40 mph that turns in front of you is what I'm more worried about. I recently drove from northern Italy to the west of Ireland (actually there was a ferry in the mix too). About 1,200 km on the road. Got to my destination kicked down the side-stand .... and it sank into the soft ground and the fully loaded touring laid down on me.
    I actually have to tell people that because if I keep it bottled up, it's worse ...

    I dropped my bike in a parking lot that had a depression by a manhole. I braked going into it when the bike was turned slightly, and it tipped. I could not right it because the gasoline started to flow out, slicking the asphalt. But as usual, two young guys helped me right it. Thank god for bystanders ...

    I got a vstar cruiser bike 4 months ago as my first bike. Went up a driveway that had some sand at the bottom and completely slid on my side. Yes, my first concern was making sure no one saw me, so I hopped back on my bike and rode it to the side out of view. Got a little scrape on the handle bar and that was it. I had full gear on and walked away with a small bruise on my leg that healed 3 days later. If it wasn't for my riding pants half my leg would be a scab right now. So yes ALWAYS WEAR YOUR GEAR! Falling down isn't really that bad with it on.

    Just got a 600s 1996 Bandit for my first bike and I was wicked intimidated at first. At 31 though it’s nice to just cruise around on and have power when you want it. Not really into racing anything anymore at my age trying to make it to 40 at least lol. All I can really say is just ride.

Whether I realize it or not, my body fears whatever possibility my bike could lose control be it a beatle, bird, loose wheel nut etc and I go tumbling breaking numerous already weak bones in my body. But I love riding still.

      That is my mentality. I dropped mine for the first time yesterday. I’ve owned the bike a week and it was only my 3rd time on a bike in 20 years . It sucked but I’m ok. In a way I’m kinda happy I got it out of the way. Before I was so scared of dropping it, I was really tense riding. Now that I’ve done it, I’m like ok that sucked but the fear of it is eased up. I dropped mine like the rider at 2:39 did. Came off a start, turned the handle bars to make a low speed sharp turn and down I went. To much turn of the wheel with a little gravel and too much lean and that was it. Thankfully i was going very slow when it happened.

      I have had my new 2022 Yamaha MT-07 for one month and accidentally dumped it on my driveway while washing it. Couldn’t believe it. Broke a few minor things and scratched the paint. Tryna be a good sport about it but it does suck! Good to point out that mistakes catch us all by surprise and that in 10 years from now it won’t really matter after all, will it? Fortunately it seems to happen to a majority of us at least once or twice !
