I grew up with these guys as my heros because they were a decade older and from my area. 20 years later I met Rupert Holmes and had a great time talking for hours. Rupert wrote their first hit "Timothy"
I love when Todd discovers that an American one-hit wonder had another huge hit in a completely random country. Another example: "Designer Music" by Lipps Inc., the follow-up to "Funky Town," was a smash in Mexico and the Phillippines. Also, I googled "Top Pop." They had some absolutely *huge* acts on that show.
I've always felt a connection to this song since I first heard it when I got a Buoys CD in 2006. It mentions the subject of the song robbing a bank in Tampa. I live in the Tampa Fl area.
I remember this song being on the jukebox at a club in Germany, it was one of the owner's favorite songs and a little bit of home for me. Rest in Peace Jerry Hludzik.
Timothy was a big hit in Syracuse in the summer 1970, and after the national popularity of it in the first half of 1971, this hit in Syracuse as well. Should have been bigger.
The outro starts at 02:33 , so making up almost 50% of the duration of song, very unique. And one of the most beautiful outro's in pop history too. (There's a 6'25 minute "full" version of this song too, by the way)
The chords are so gorgeous!!! Bill Kelly is #1 on the underrated vocalist charts, I am sure. As you were describing the outro being so long, I can think of a few other songs that do this: "I'm Your Captain (Closer to Home)", Grand Funk; "Hey Jude", the Beatles; "Layla", Derek and the Dominos; "Strange Way", Firefall.
I heard this song after a rapper used it and feel in love with this track. I am glad to see that even being born in the late 80s I can share my love for this group with everyone here.
I was in my teens when I made my own top 40 every week. This song was my number one for a lot of weeks. Funny detals, de singer of the Pina Colada song, Rupert Holmes, wrote this song!!
The absolute best original band to ever come out of Pennsylvania!!!! the most incredible talented musicians ever!!!! these guys were my heroes and still are!!!!! These guys were so incredible live you had to be there I must have seen them over 250 times no exaggeration!!!!! THE BOUYS!!!!!! #1 LONG LIVE THE MUSIC OF THE BOUYS!!!! Believe me nobody in Wyoming Valley will ever ever forget these guys....RIP Jerry...miss you man...
I always thought this song was from way later in the seventies, so I looked it up, for I was sure this was a hit when I was about 12, 13 years old. And Yes indeed, it was a hit again in 1979. Glad my memory serves me well!
Of vergis ik me?

Raakt me echt.

This song sounds like something America would've recorded around the same time
