100% accurate! lol Tip 9 - Pretend like you'll deliver on the promise of the title, and kind of deliver, but not really. People smart enough to realize it are upset and comment on the video. This increases engagement on your video. TH-cam likes that and might push out your video more.
The real tip of this video: Talk complicated to appear more knowledgeable and to hold the audience for an eternity. It takes 10 seconds to just say "Repeat your successes." Not 10 minutes.

One thing that irks me about TH-cam algo is that if I make 100 similar videos then 1-2 videos will blow up like anything and rest all will perform like they never existed, This uncertainty is very perplexing, The algo needs some balancing act...
It took several months to get thru my eighties. Then shot to high nineties real quick. Then played the up down game again in high nineties. FINALLY I broke thru 100. Hope I don't go under!
I believe that in the stage of your channel you should focus on Search traffic. Try to put titles and thumbnails in place that people will find. I have a small channel myself and if I would not get traffic from Search I would have around the same views as you have. Search gives me about 1k views per video. The advice given in this video is for channels much bigger than ours.
Thanks for this Derrel. I've found that it took youtube about 60-70 videos to figure out what my channel was about. After that, the growth has been insane. It makes me excited to think about how much more content I can and want to make.
Derral I've been on TH-cam myself since 2006. What I've learned is that you can do all the analysis and all the tweaking in the world but ultimately TH-cam calls the shots. If they don't like you, your niche or your channel they will not push you. If your video is not monetized (usually because they deem it unfit for monetization themselves for any of their made up reasons) they will not push you. I know who my audience is. I know who my competitors are and what they're doing. Yeah I found some titles and thumbnails that could possibly be seen to improve the number of views. But I can't keep repeating the same title and thumbnail on every video. In the end it's a complete lottery. It makes no difference whether you study the analytics because they don't actually and specifically tell you what's working and not. Same as they don't actually and specifically tell you why they demonetize a video or a whole channel - or even delete a whole channel. You just have to guess. My advice to TH-camrs is do what you want - don't stress over it. If you don't enjoy it then don't do it. You have NO CONTROL over how many views you get and how many subs you get. TH-cam takes your hard work in making the videos and does with it what they want. Simple as .
Totally agree. My niche is kids music which has taken a massive battering with the safeguarding measures. I had a massive peak whilst growing, got 2 million views and now I'm NOT a chosen one. So I'm going to have to completely change my content away from kids just to fun music stuff, I'll give it a go just creating what I want to create and enjoy it, if it works it works, if not, it will have NOTHING to do whatsoever with content, thumbs, or analysis!

A little story about the "algo". My channel was totally demonetized about 2 months ago for "violating Community Guidelines" . They said as long as I "cleaned up" my channel I could re-apply for monetization in 30 days time. I went ahead and did NOTHING to the channel - not a thing - then 30 days later reapplied. Hey Presto! All of a sudden they said it was ok again and remonetized. EXACTLY the same channel as they demonetized 30 days earlier. Does anyone (including them) really know what they're doing? You can't use stats, analytics, titles and thumbnails to optimise what is actually a mess.
@@legslavish I would add that the whole algorithm and AI stuff may by enlarge sort out the total rubbish from the average - but is otherwise a smokescreen for what actually gets recommended on the large scale. TH-cam isn't really 'You' - it's still a Television network (with loads of channels) and it is controlled by humans. I love the irony that they have a 'head of trending'. What company this size would really run their whole show on AI? This isn't Terminator and SkyNet, and slime really isn't that popular!

@@LesterDiaz Yeah I get that, but you got ranked in the beginning and that's why I've said you got a "breakout video". For edu channels I think it's much harder to get into suggested just because it's not enterntaining type of content it's educational and people that are really interested into certain topic are going to search for it. To get suggested with edu content you need to just be adding fluffy starter info and nothing else maybe add a few sketches and things like that so it appeals to kids more and than you get suggested.

In my opinion the three types of videos that grow the most: 1) Videos that answer a question, such as this one or provide help to solve a problem. 2) Videos that give an entertainment value, for example when someone gets off work and just wants to forget about the stress of work or maybe they just had a bad day and need that laugh. 3) Videos such as Mr Beasts where they do a challenge and you want to see if they succeeded or failed the challenge (one of the better ones, because it peaks curiosity which is very powerful.)
So for small channels like mine, the analytics don’t show anything meaningful, if I don’t have much traffic then the traffic source doesn’t really matter.
Great content! Important thing (covered implicitly) is that you do have to put out content first and put it out consistently. You get a lot more out of analysing 50-100 videos than you get from analysing 5-10. You also learn a lot more about yourself, the kind of content you want to create and the way you want to go about making it. It's probably a good idea to play with different ways of presenting whatever your subject is. Develop your systems, let your creative juices run wild and build up some momentum. Only then can you apply the kinds analysis mentioned and adjust the content - or at least it will be more profitable doing so. All that may be obvious to some but it's worth mentioning because a lot of people (if they're anything like me) can end up in analysis paralysis and never actually get started. So, get started and keep going. 👊💪😎
Derral, if your traffic is coming from promoted content that is 10 years old, (been on YT since 2006) then your traffic numbers are scewed. If you are putting out different or updated content, and YT still promotes out of date content, then what good is it to give value to traffic sources?

Thanks Derral this was fantastic. I would love to see a video with an even deeper dive on how to move from searchable content to suggested. My videos with the most views also have the highest click through (over 10%) and the highest retention, yet they are mostly search views. Conversely my videos with significantly less views have far more suggested traffic. I'm not sure I understand how to move to suggested traffic while still keeping the views high.
This is great! Analytics can be intimidating to me... it reminds me a little to much of my statistics classes in college, but I obviously need to get over it, if I want to succeed!
Great content Derral. Check your audio levels though, I think your video is a bit muffled and quiet. Could just be me obsessing over the perfect AVL but I thought I'd point it out as I wish people would tell me when this happens.
I need to make some video groups based on highest traffic source to see what shakes out. From there it would be easy to sort by CTR and AVD. I have an idea of what will come of it but will be exciting to get the real evidence

I'm still struggling to switch my mentality to focus from search to suggestion. I'm coming from Google SEO land so I've always focused on searched and is pretty hard to understand this "new" thing. Hi Derral, thanks for these 5 tips. I have a channel that gest over 70% of traffic from search (Yt and Google) too and I struggle too to find a way to get suggested traffic ... Is there an easy way to know the 5 most suggested videos on my chnnel? In my analytics I can see the most viewed vids, the videos that most frequently send me suggested traffic... but I have no idea which of my videos get the highest % suggested traffic . thanks in advance!
One thing I noticed about Tutorial videos or "How To" content is that the creator is kind enough to help people with the knowledge they know, but than when the viewer can't for some reason figure it out or just skips over the video and misses something. Well than they get mad at the creator and wine in the comments. Crazy how that works lol.
What I find very strange is how strong suggested traffic can boost a particular video. I had one of my videos receive some suggested love for some unknown reason, blew it up to nearly 1000 views (which is 10-20x more than my baseline), but just as quick as it had arrived, it died off again. I have no idea why this happened, but I've seen *first hand* how good suggested content can be for your channel.
Hi Don't change anything in the video (tags, title, thumbnail, etc.), Do not touch anything that will force you to use "Save changes in the video". this video will sleep for a moment, and will revive again in the future.. your particular video has something that worked with the algorithm, it will work again and again, just don't change anything in it, you will see after some weeks that it will blow again, just wait...

Heard and seen hundreds of videos with the same advice. To succeed in 2019 is much harder then in 2018 and 2017 and back, therefore you need: 1. More luck 2. More unique content 3. More Ads 4. More variety 5. More hard work and videos. 6. Network and famous people to help you prompte your channel 7. More money 8. More ideas 9. More creativity 10. More time. TH-cam is overloaded already. TH-cam is more restricted already. Things havr changed big time. Things have gotten worse for youtubers. Big TH-camrs are now uploading more on facebook and other platforms.

Dude this has been sooooooooo frustrating for me!!!! Ugh!!! Because on all of my videos I get awesome engagement and comments, and I respond to every comment!!! Don’t get me wrong...I’m super grateful for my active subscribers! They’re awesome! But channel is stuck and has been for a looooong time! I get so overwhelmed looking at the analytics. I look, but then I really have no idea what to do. My channel is based on a certain niche (a mix of metal guitar lessons and metal music). I’m not sure what else to do. I guess I’m having a difficult time trying to replicate the few videos I have that are doing really well.

In my opinion the three types of videos that grow the most:
1) Videos that answer a question, such as this one or provide help to solve a problem.
2) Videos that give an entertainment value, for example when someone gets off work and just wants to forget about the stress of work or maybe they just had a bad day and need that laugh.
3) Videos such as Mr Beasts where they do a challenge and you want to see if they succeeded or failed the challenge (one of the better ones, because it peaks curiosity which is very powerful.)
So for small channels like mine, the analytics don’t show anything meaningful, if I don’t have much traffic then the traffic source doesn’t really matter.
82% of my traffic comes from suggested videos and it’s crazy. Derral Eves and Roberto Blake are awesome!
Great content! Important thing (covered implicitly) is that you do have to put out content first and put it out consistently. You get a lot more out of analysing 50-100 videos than you get from analysing 5-10.
You also learn a lot more about yourself, the kind of content you want to create and the way you want to go about making it. It's probably a good idea to play with different ways of presenting whatever your subject is.
Develop your systems, let your creative juices run wild and build up some momentum. Only then can you apply the kinds analysis mentioned and adjust the content - or at least it will be more profitable doing so.
All that may be obvious to some but it's worth mentioning because a lot of people (if they're anything like me) can end up in analysis paralysis and never actually get started. So, get started and keep going. 👊💪😎

Derral, if your traffic is coming from promoted content that is 10 years old, (been on YT since 2006) then your traffic numbers are scewed. If you are putting out different or updated content, and YT still promotes out of date content, then what good is it to give value to traffic sources?

Thanks Derral this was fantastic. I would love to see a video with an even deeper dive on how to move from searchable content to suggested. My videos with the most views also have the highest click through (over 10%) and the highest retention, yet they are mostly search views. Conversely my videos with significantly less views have far more suggested traffic. I'm not sure I understand how to move to suggested traffic while still keeping the views high.
This is great! Analytics can be intimidating to me... it reminds me a little to much of my statistics classes in college, but I obviously need to get over it, if I want to succeed!
Great content Derral. Check your audio levels though, I think your video is a bit muffled and quiet. Could just be me obsessing over the perfect AVL but I thought I'd point it out as I wish people would tell me when this happens.
I need to make some video groups based on highest traffic source to see what shakes out.
From there it would be easy to sort by CTR and AVD.
I have an idea of what will come of it but will be exciting to get the real evidence

TH-cam's algorithm is a tough machine to crack, but once you understand the graphs and pattern's it does help tremendously.

I'm still struggling to switch my mentality to focus from search to suggestion. I'm coming from Google SEO land so I've always focused on searched and is pretty hard to understand this "new" thing. SEO I understand, research and focus o keywords with high traffic, create content with that keywords. No this a different territory. Thanks for pointing us to the correct direction.

One thing I noticed about Tutorial videos or "How To" content is that the creator is kind enough to help people with the knowledge they know, but than when the viewer can't for some reason figure it out or just skips over the video and misses something. Well than they get mad at the creator and wine in the comments. Crazy how that works lol.

What I find very strange is how strong suggested traffic can boost a particular video. I had one of my videos receive some suggested love for some unknown reason, blew it up to nearly 1000 views (which is 10-20x more than my baseline), but just as quick as it had arrived, it died off again. I have no idea why this happened, but I've seen *first hand* how good suggested content can be for your channel.

Don't change anything in the video (tags, title, thumbnail, etc.), Do not touch anything that will force you to use "Save changes in the video".
this video will sleep for a moment, and will revive again in the future.. your particular video has something that worked with the algorithm, it will work again and again, just don't change anything in it, you will see after some weeks that it will blow again, just wait...

4. More variety
5. More hard work and videos.
6. Network and famous people to help you prompte your channel
7. More money
8. More ideas
9. More creativity
10. More time.
TH-cam is overloaded already.
TH-cam is more restricted already.
Things havr changed big time.
Things have gotten worse for youtubers.
Big TH-camrs are now uploading more on facebook and other platforms.
