RESTORATION - Mobile Oil Tanker Truck, My First Restore!

  • My first youtube restoration; a unique TootsieToy Mobile Oil Tanker Truck! The Model Mack truck was well worn, showing it's age with missing paint and bent axles . After a complete disassembly, the body was media blasted and repainted using Rustoleum Sunrise Red and Metallic Chrome paint for a bright paint job. Normally I would use primer but I didn't want to loose the details of the body with too many layers of paint. The tires were in good shape and were reused. With the addition of white paint the lettering really pops now! To replace the flares on the axle I used chrome beads held on with a dab of super glue. The chrome on the beads really makes the wheels stand out. I hope you enjoyed my first restoration video. Consider subscribing for more content as we try to make life just a little More Better!!!

Sorta sad. There's a thousand restored tankers.. but there was only one original worn in that particular condition...
There's only one Die-cast bus from the 40's, repainted res with machined brass wheels and a photo of my dad as a kid with it.. and I have it...
Reconditioned, it just becomes another die-cast objet d'art.
Still. Beautiful restoration. If there are no memories attached. no harm done...

I know what you mean, I have several things that will keep their patina as it’s only that way once. The oil tanker was an eBay find that I watched for a while and no one wanted. I have some of my fathers toys from the 50s. Some are in poor shape (as in rotted) and will be fixed while others will stay original. Thanks for watching !

I got a box of tin ~1.5" rail and a wind up chassis for $10.

@@TheButlerNZ I used to know a lot of good junk yards, scrappers, and honey holes. When the price of scrap went up a lot of good stuff was recycled and lost. Most of my junkyards and scrappers are either gone now or too well known to get anything good.

I've always done my 1/64-ish customs with spray paint. Very durable and inexpensive.
Your chrome details and tire lettering were beautiful.

Thank you. I like the Rust-oleum brand paints. I've had great luck with their ease of use and durability. The only real draw back I find is dry time. I appreciate you liking the details. The chrome and tire lettering took time but I feel like it made it all pop!

First time visitor here. You're right, it's very relaxing to watch! I enjoyed It a lot. You are very skilled. I use the same technique with beads on the end of the axles. Nice work on the raised lettering on the wheels. New subscriber (#16) to help you get started. I'll be following! Merry Christmas from Switzerland - Andrew 🍁🌲

Thanks. I thought about doing that. I didn’t because I couldn’t tape them up being that tight of a tiny circle. I have some small brushes now and I could do it. Do you think chrome or dark yellow would look better ?

the sounds of sandblasting destroy the eardrums of the viewer so please next time lower it upon editing.

    • @morebetterrestorations7987

I agree. Being my first video I was ignorant to adjusting the sound. I have in the following videos lowered the blasting scenes by about 15 decibels. Check my later videos out and let me know if they are more bearable. Thanks for watching!
