Yeah I was thinking the same thing. It may be easier his way but I can't believe that it's a must. I'm sure it can be done with the wheels on saving the disassembly and reassembly time.
I'm sure it's easier with the wheels off, but is it really necessary? I don't think so!

should have replaced the sprocket while you were there.... teeth look wore out.
Are front stickers same size as rear?
