This anime is a basic concept, humanity's struggle for survival against the gods in a tournament setting. What really sells it is how they pull from history and attempt to include many art styles (though, still in the anime style) and how they brought the gods' personalities to life. Essentially, the imperfections of the gods in the Greek pantheon were given to all pantheons. Including many of the legends from history both in the audience and as participants are great touches. There are some inaccuracies but in reality, human understanding of the old gods is very subjective and up to interpretation. While this anime can feel a bit tone-deaf at times (Seven Deadly Sins suffers from this as well), the constant addition of new gods and cutaways to famous humans is what saves it. Not the greatest, but definitely not the worst. The concept of this is what will enable it to withstand the test of time, if anything.

Power scaling in Indian mythology is insane. Shiva’s job is to destroy all creation so that a new Yug can start. Zeus is similar to Indra, the head of all Devs. You should check out Indian mythology.

Shiva is someone who is being worshipped by Hindus each and every day. So the sentiments tend to be a bit different. We consider Shiva to actually be in existence whereas Greek and Roman god's have been named by there own people as "MYTHS". Making a god like Shiva lose a fight in an anime is same as making a joke about someone's race or color or gender etc. Heck you can even make fun of our color race and accent and we would laugh it off but mockery of our god in any way usually disappoints us.
