  • Welcome or welcome pack to our Pawed Crew
It’s time to put our boat work on hold as it is currently sailing season free of hurricanes in the Caribbean. We’ve got more to do once we return but right now we need to get out in the salty air, refresh our motivation and reminds ourselves what we are doing this for. We are just getting started and so these days are full of firsts! We also have to navigate pet travel requirements, human travel requirements, boat problems that come out of nowhere and sprinkled in there with every swim of the stern, morning coffee looking out over the water and front row seat to spectacular sunsets; we enjoy the rewards that this lifestyle bring as well.

    RENAMING CEREMONY (TAKEN FROM INTERNET)
    Renaming a Boat
    “Mighty Neptune, king of all that moves in or on the waves;
“And mighty Aeolus, guardian of the winds and all that blows before them:
“We offer you our thanks for the protection you have afforded this vessel in the past. We voice our gratitude that she has always found shelter from tempest and storm, and found safe harbor.
“Now, wherefore, we submit this supplication, that the name whereby this vessel has hitherto been known, ‘[---],’ be struck and removed from your records.
“Further, we ask that when she is again presented for blessing with a new name, she shall be recognized and accorded once again the selfsame privileges she previously enjoyed.
“In return for which, we rededicate this vessel to your domain in the full knowledge that she shall be subject, as always, to the immutable laws of the gods of the wind and the sea.
“In consequence whereof, and in good faith, we seal this pact with libation offered according to the hallowed ritual of the sea.”
There. Now you are free to christen your boat with a new name. It doesn’t pay to be too quick, though. Most of us like to wait at least 24 hours to give any lingering demons time to pack their duffel bags and clear out.

    WHO'S THE PAWED CREW?
A quick introduction and recap We are a couple with 7 rescue doggies who left Costa Rica in 2022 in our semi converted cargo van, drove up to Guatemala where we found our sailboat which had been left for many, many years on the hard after her previous owner passed away. We have spent the last year and a half getting her back into the lovely sailing vessel she is. She’s a 38’ dutch boat called a Contest 38s with great bones, a spacious interior and is everything I dreamed of and more. Actually, she is better!
Join us this week as we tick off each checklist item for departure including appeasing Poseidon with a renaming ceremony, appease the CA-4 countries and piss of Belize by taking a “visa run”, and finally venture, for the first time down the river in our sailboat from Fronteras to Cayo Quemado… we are almost to Livingston which is the briney doorway to the Caribbean and to new dreams coming true!
    leave marina
    get new batts
    fuel polish
    texan bay
    engine problems
we leave for Punta Gorda, Belize
    NEXT TIME….
    Get to know Cayo Quemado
    go down to Livingston
say good bye to parents for now
coming soon… dreams come true and we get salty… finally!!!
If you are out there watching these videos because you are curious about life on a boat and are considering setting off on your own adventure at sea, we invite you to subscribe and tag along for our journey. We are new to this! It was a dream, a very obsessive dream that had me completely in raptured. I took each steps as they came, albeit slow to start and all the time I wondered, will i ever really find a sailboat I can buy? am I really brave enough for this? Am I capable? am I doing the right thing? Hairo and I also basically started from zero on the sailing learning curve; we’re still on the very bottom of that even now; but we are learning by heaps and bounds and the thing is you can too. You learn piece by piece. Either by grace or by baptism by fire but you learn. We had never anchored a boat before and now we feel pretty darn confident and I THINK ARE DOING A GREAT JOB. We didn’t know a thing about 12 volt systems or about running a home on a battery bank. But we are figuring it out. Now that I reflect on where we were a year and half ago to now I can say proudly the list of things we’ve learned is massive with minor pumps and bruises to show for it. And i hope you whatever it is you dare to dream that you will go for it too, from the bottom of my heart!
Until next week, salty kisses from the pawed crew!

I’m sure many would agree: some might not think you should have any. To each their own. Luckily for our spoiled, happy, rescue dogs they’re living an epic life only even a few humans get to live! Thanks for watching and commenting :)
