    Players used to wear wool caps like those manufactured by EFF because the material helped them stay fresh under the sun and also shelter and protect their heads on cold weathered nights. I have ordered the New York Knight's featured in the video but also the caps of the1946 Veracruz (México) Azules, the 1939 Hollywood Stars, and my favorite, the 1954 Cangrejeros de Santurce (my birthplace) cap, a Puerto Rican winter ball team that featured Roberto Clemente AND Willie Mays in the outfield (picture that !).
    Thank You, EFF co-founder (and fellow musician) Jerry Cohen, Blessings to all from San Juan PR.

    This was my favorite video by far please do more!! I have a pretty good collection of EFF caps and they have sales all the time so that’s how I got so many. Love the caps, I like them far better than New Era but that’s just my humble opinion.

      Cool, thank you. Yes, I noticed the frequent sales - even when I grabbed some screenshots to show the regular prices, all of the caps were on sale.

    Thanks for this video, it helped greatly. Was very nervous about ordering as in New Era I’m 7 1/4, but the insight to size up was spot on. Ordered a 7 3/8 Katz hat and the fit was perfect. The Ebbets hats look even more incredible in person.

    Glad to see an EFF cap review. One thing I have found with collecting EFF caps, the soft visor caps run a bit smaller than the standard visor caps. Something to keep in mind for any future purchases. Great video as always!

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks... one other visor note which I shared briefly at the end of the video, they really don't hold a curve for very long. If you have a collection of them I'm curious if that has been your experience as well.

    • @kjsthrowbacks35
      @kjsthrowbacks35 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      dre in the 616 my experience is the standard visors do hold a slight curve over time and use but have a tendency to flatten.

      Got it, thanks for posting... that was probably my only (minor) difficulty with the cap, but it certainly won't stop me from getting more EFF caps.

      Hey i’m looking for my first vintage baseball cap, is the length between soft and standard visor pretty significant? Length-wise, i’m looking for cap damon wore in this video th-cam.com/video/F_NB4BQy8Ng/w-d-xo.html. Is that short or standard visor? Looks similar with one of the EFF vintage collection.

    Great video as always Doug. I've been collecting since 2010 and have about 120 or so 5950's, almost all made in the US. With Derby closing, EFF seems like the future for those of us that collect caps. You brought up a good point about price point though. 50 is a bit steep for a cap.

I like the buy 2 get one for a dollar hat deals they have. For 33.50 roughly, that's a great price for American made quality stuff, I can't complain at all.

    Great video! Something I've learned over the years of collecting is that EFF caps are nice but they are not 100% accurate. I would say the caps should be classified more as a vintage-inspired look. To be period accurate, all EFF caps should have leather sweatbands, not just their 8-panel caps. Plus, the caps from the early 1900s to the 1940s should all have soft visors and not just a select few that EFF chooses. With the exception of the 8-panel caps, all EFF caps have the same exact shape, which is not historically accurate either.
    The materials they use are great and sort of cover up the fact that the shape is much closer to a modern style ball cap than the actual designs which had more of a wider crescent shape for the visors. That style changed around the 1950s which is the shape most of the EFF caps take after. As mentioned, they're still nice caps but not exactly what they advertise them to be which is unfortunate considering they are charging premium prices for them.

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  ปีที่แล้ว

      Some really great points about accuracy… I think the Ideal Cap Co. tried to maintain the construction on more caps, but I am not sure if they still exist. I’m also concerned with EFF now that they’ve been acquired by Lids. Thanks for the comments!

  • @BrotherIonatan
    @BrotherIonatan 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Oh and btw,
    Some Ebbets caps come with bills (not including the ones labeled “soft bill” on the website) that among the standard bills, are more bendable than others.
    You never really know if your caps bill is going to be more especially stiff before you get it, but suffice to say that some caps do indeed hold a curve better than others.

  • @anthrotravel0
    @anthrotravel0 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey! Did you notice if bending the brim on this cap gave you a bit more room, the way bending a 5950 brim would?

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, a bit more because of the curvature - but a couple of things to look out for. EFF makes both standard visors and what they call "soft" visors, like on my NY Knickerbockers 1912 cap. With the standard visor, EFF uses plastic, so it is more difficult than a 59Fifty to hold its shape over time, and you'll find yourself flexing it a lot. And with the soft visor, it really can't give the extra room because it has no real structure that can bring the cap along when you curve it. Thanks for the question, hope that helps.

  • @guangguang1472
    @guangguang1472 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Doug - thanks for a great, really informative video. I'd like to get a soft-visor six panel EFF cap, but I'm not sure about sizing as I don't usually wear hats or caps. My head circumference is 23 1/4" which seems to be between size 7 3/8 and 7 1/2. would you suggest I stick with the 7 1/2 or go up to 7 5/8?

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually went to 7-5/8 in two EFF caps after being a natural 7-1/2 in just about everything else... I have been very happy with the fit of both - and their soft visor is really nice on the NY Knickerbockers cap that I have. I'd say you can safely go up the size, and thanks for the comments.

    I’m looking at buying a couple, do they shrink since they’re wool?

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not if you show some reasonable care - like avoiding combinations of moisture and high heat such as a clothes dryer. If you wear a lot and sweat frequently they may also shrink a bit, but the wool flannel used in these makes them a worse choice during warm weather anyway.

    • @BrotherIonatan
      @BrotherIonatan 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A. J. Smith Yeah no major league teams but they do have many minor league teams and some of the historical ones look very similar if not identical to the major league logos of today (I.e. the pcl LA Angels looks almost exactly like a Dodgers hat etc.)

  • @TylerThad
    @TylerThad 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Has your hat shrunk since getting it? And if so would you have gone up in size even more? I’m normally a 7 1/4 but even my wool 7 1/4 59fifty has gotten pretty tight. Do you think a 7 3/8 would be good for a comfortable fit?

    • @dreinthe616
      @dreinthe616  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, mine has stayed mostly the same, but the more you wear and sweat in it, the more likely the wool will draw up and shrink. I've never needed to stretch an EFF cap yet, but for your case I'd definitely go up that 1/8 of a size. I thought I said it in the video, but I am a normal 7-1/2, but with the EFF caps I buy 7-5/8. There are some differences among Ebbets caps - mostly in the visor and sweatband construction. But they do a solid job of capturing that in the details under each cap page on their website.
