      This was developed in obsidian.md using the excalidraw plugin that I have developed.
      I also have a course where I walk through the entire process of creating such summaries using these tools (visual-thinking-workshop.com).

    Amazing!!! Thank you!!! I have experienced a lot of problems keeping my brain free of clutter. Since I started using Obsidian I gained some pieces of control, but I made some mistakes. That took me some time to reorganize my vaults. No problem, I consider it an advantage to understand my own pitfalls and learning how to cope with them. I think your visualisation might bring me to a next, better level of managing my second brain.

    • @VisualPKM
      @VisualPKM  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In my view, the process of learning and internalizing will change. That is not a question, that is a fact. I already experience the change in many ways. However, in the end, unless I am able to digest ideas, I won't have any of my own. A second brain is as much about the process of creating it, the thought that goes into connecting ideas and creating summaries, as using it later to retrieve ideas. I can imagine that retrieval will change drastically, but as mentioned before, unless I struggle through the process of summarization and connection, the idea won't be mine - I'll be just a puppet in other's hand.

      Regarding sequence, I think Tiago’s book is a good first one. Then I recommend starting to practice some of Tiago’s advice with some of your own personal notes before reading further… If you are interested in PKM in Obsidian you will find Nick Milo’s content on linkingYourThinking helpful. Again an amazing video. I am gonna buy this book now. Thanks😊
    I also have an question about excalidraw, it is not generating right colors in dark mode. I created a drawing in dark mode and when I turn the setting to light mode then all the black colors of drawing also turned into white and all white turned into black. I also raised an issue on github about this problem. Whatever I create on dark mode is not printing as it is in SVG and png export. It exports in light mode version which means it turn all my black colored objects into white and vice versa for white colored objects. I want to work in dark mode but whatever color I set for any object must be as it is in both the mode.

    • @realgouravverma
      @realgouravverma 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      See this is the drawing in the light mode: drive.google.com/file/d/1VKdYxQskjwCftGe-weG_QJnD7PmtAuPt/view?usp=sharing
      And here is the same drawing in dark mode: drive.google.com/file/d/18ZSO0uUBnDeeJ-Dumdktb-V6LhNVOTKL/view?usp=sharing
      See how it altered all the colors in dark mode. Is it possible to fix this problem?

    • @VisualPKM
      @VisualPKM  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dark mode uses inverted colors. The reason for this is that Excalidraw.com has a collaboration functionality in which some users might prefer dark mode, others light mode. This handling of colors is not likely to change.
      In settings under “Embed and Export” you will find some switches that control how exports happen, including “Export image with background” and “Export image with theme”. Try to set those. If you open Excalidraw in markdown mode, you can control export on a file level by adding “excalidraw-export-…” switches. If you start to type excalidraw- the rest should come up automatically.
      Finally, if you always use Excalidraw in dark mode you can do the following:
      - in your template set the background to dark
      - create a custom color palette (I have a video on the subject) with light colors
      - if the light toolbar buttons hurt your eyes, you can also change the style settings with a css snippet (this will require some, though not a lot of work)
      I hope this helps.

      @realgouravverma 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VisualPKM ok thankuu for the detailed explanation.

  • @realgouravverma
    @realgouravverma 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, I think I have some confusion. Let me briefly explain what I understood.
    First we should capture our note so what is the thing we are capturing here means any concept that we learned from the book or the name of the book or it can be anything?
    Supposing that it could be anything, so now we are organising that anything in the second step according to PARA method.
    Now my confusion comes in the third step because here you again started the process of capturing(in my understanding) in progressive summarisation process. Here you started from the original full text then making it's literature notes and highlighting and so on. So here I haven't used my already captured note but I started from the original full text note. This is making me confuse.
    My question is, in distill step where is the role of already captured and organised notes or should we start things from starting. Or the progressive summarization process is the mixture of capturing and distill step where we first capture and start working on it for packaging it to our future self? Please clear my doubt.

    • @VisualPKM
      @VisualPKM  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is how I understand and apply it.
      Let's say I am reading a book.
      - In the capture step I record my book highlights and book notes.
      - In the organize step I store these highlights in a folder. If the book I read relates to a project I am currently working on, then it goes in the Projects folder. If not, then if it relates to an area that is important to me it goes in the Areas folder, etc.
      - At a later time, when I have the energy or the need to process my book highlights I can use the progressive summarization process to distill the essence of my book notes. In this sense, the bottom part of the pyramid (full text book and literature notes) are already done, I pick up my literature notes and highlight what is important. If I want to go further, I can do a second pass of review and bold the important words, this time only looking at the highlighted text, ... and I can go further if I want, doing the exec summary, or the book on a page.
      - finally, in the future, when you are creating something, as you prepare for the project you look through your second brain looking for relevant material. This is when you might pick up your highlighted literature notes or exec summary and remix it in your own work.
      Does this make sense? Does this help?

    Great way of displaying the information contained in a book. Going through your discussion and then looking back at the one page helps me to prepare for reading the book. My initial feeling is that half of the work, CODE, is similar to the GTD steps. Not certain how I would use PARA in my task management system. But the second half of creativity and sharing seems to be an area I will need to settle down with for further enrichment. Thank you for a great visual!

    • @VisualPKM

      Yes BASB is very similar to GTD… its like a creative persons extension to GTD. I tried using PARA myself in the past, but it fell apart, probably because my PKM is more link based and less file based. However the logic of PARA, organizing for action, is very powerful and helpful,
