I'm retired, live alone and don't have a TV. I'm on TH-cam but no other social media. If I'm working on a project I have my phone on aeroplane mode, TH-cam and Gmail closed plus no notifications, and the only tabs open relate directly to the project. I've always worked the same way and could never write software in an open-plan office. Thanks for this Book on a Page video. It's confirmation that I'm not a complete freak!!
haha the only thing I have a tv for is sport couple games a week and becasue without my tv I would have no use for my couch. and also i binge watch a tv series once a year atm its house of the dragon. apart from that i am glued to PKM tools and vs code!
Zsolt, impressive summary. I am curious about how the 4DX ties to Permanent Notes of Zettlekasten system. Can writing 6 permanent notes a day be considered a leading measure for, say, writing and publishing a book? Thank you.
Thank you, thank you - and in case this hasn't come across clearly: thank you again for this very good and insightful intro to and summary of Deep Work
This has been on my reading list for a long time-thanks for providing me an alternative to learn about it! Curious, how do you decide whether a book is valuable enough to dedicate the time to make a 'book on a page' for it? I can't imagine you are able to do this for every book you read-do you have some form of smaller summary or even just maintain a list of completed books to also track the less impactful ones?
When I start reading a book I always add highlights from the get go. I highlight not only interesting sentences but also chapter headings (as those will help me structure my summary in the future). I also capture notes with references and illustration ideas. If the book does not capture my imagination/interest I don't finish reading. If the book was interesting enough to finish I upload my highlights to Obsidian and write a 1-paragraph summary. If the book was not dense enough, or not memorable enough, I leave it at this. If it was sufficiently interesting then I start to process my literature notes and highlight thoughts that stand out. At this point I also start to add few simple sketches or ideas. Also this is the point when I start to think about moving ideas into permanent notes in my zettelkasten. If I find value in the process, from this point I typically go all the way creating a book on a page summary, if not, then I just leave the literature notes with the highlights and some sketches in my archive. If I create a book on a page, then there is still a decision point to publish as a video or just do the BoaP for myself. Finalizing the BoaP and creating the video adds significant overhead, though also brings massive benefits for my understanding as well. In case I opt for a video I will also watch/listen to a number of interviews with the author to tease out details that I did not spot in the book and do a bit of background research on topics to ground my understanding.
I would recommend reading "How to Read A Book". It will cover a lot of questions for you that I also had. To keep it simple, skimming is a good option, but then again its good to know the principles about reading in general.
This is best to report on the github page to ensure the issue doesn't get lost, also you can share screenshots of what has happened. Can I ask you to open an issue here and to include a bit more explanation what you mean by elements crashed? github.com/zsviczian/obsidian-excalidraw-plugin/issues
@@adapalamalayalam Thanks for reporting the issue. I used Excalidraw for a day before publishing the release, but unfortunately I did not spot the issue on my drawings until you called it to my attention. I've now fixed the issue. There was a change to an officially unpublished logic in the Excalidraw package tht I use for sizing sticky notes in support of text transclusion using the ![[text]] formatting in Obsidian. This is the function that went "rogue". Anyway, I hope this issue did not cause too much problem for you.
I'm happy. There is no problem anymore. I checked. I appreciate the time and effort you put into developing this plugin and making it better. Excalidraw is essential for studying and taking notes. Without Excalidraw, I wouldn't even consider using Obsidian.
@@VisualPKM You right. But to be ironical, I'm already trying to not focus on myself. lol. I mean the me and others' me. But rather on the true self... I do agree about social networks. But I share some videos on Odysee. I don't come here anymore, except for some programming stuffs. To much censure and orientation by the IA of what is proposed to see. I only "search" videos. It's good to know, sometime, when a pandemic was planed 10 years ago, and you can find the original document, by yourself, on a lambda organization, like the Rockefeller foundation. Good to know when it will have major effects on people health, and it was openly planned to do so. It could be like vital information or just anti BS information... BTW I tried to public a little plugin "duplicate-line". But I had issues in the validation part. Only 1 video about doing a plugin, by a young guy. It's a good start, but far from explaining some details and being specific enough. And if it is a simple code improvement for obsidian, I don't find the source code anywhere? But maybe this is in C or C++ and I don't program at this level again.
Excellent. I read the book and got very little out of it. But your explanation blew my mind. I thoroughly understand thank you thank you thank you
What an exceptional way to summarize the entire book! Well done! I’m hooked. More please.
Zsolt, it's apparent from the pieces you develop you've ingrained the essence of deep work. Another marvelous creation. Thank you!!!!

Imagine more of this content, can see you growing like crazy within a year. Love this like no other!! LOVE it! keep up the great work
These are great - summary for the book AND ideas on how to diagram concepts.

What a life saver ! 👍👍👍
incredible video !
Thanks for the free canvas
I will be trying to create my own Book on a Page for this book.
Sounds like a good plan!
Wow thanks
❤️
thanks😊
Could you tell me what library of images you are using? They are very effective yet no over bearing.
I mostly use flaticon.com but in case of the deep work BoaP the icons are mostly my own.
Soo valuable. That's allot

I take it you don't like Gates :)
The book covers a good number of highly productive/successful people. Focus on the others...
