Thank you for this Andy. YES changed my life in 1970. I was 16 and heard Close To The Edge for the first time. That started my prog rock and music journey which continues to this day. I am now 70 and my main playlist is full of YES Genesis King Crimson Pink Floyd and Zeppelin and many others all dating back to the 70s. I was blessed to be born in an age for timeless music that will never be repeated. Legends Live for Ever!
Holy shit wowwwww!!!!!! On the off chance that Jon looks at these comments - THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR MUSIC JON!!! It's been so important in my life! Thank you, thank you, thank you, a million times!
Been listening to him since I first saw YES in 1973. Blessed he's still putting out music and shows no signs of stopping, and amazing he's sung so well for so long. Happy Birthday, Jon. 🎂
Back in the day, my band opened for Jon Anderson- Vangeles at the NYC Central Park bandshell. I gushed like a silly schoolboy when I met Jon. I'm embarrassed for that to this day. Jon was very gracious about it though.
Wow. Watched this and yes, so glad the love came to Jon from you, Andy! I think I would have said the same things to Mr. Anderson, nearly word for word 😀Much love to you, too, Andy!
Happy Birthday Jon. 18 years older than myself and a ton of optimism. Every time I'm feeling low I'll be watching this to cheer myself up. Thanks Andy. Yeah, I don't do heights either... ;)
Awesome Andy! Mr. Anderson is just such a humble and lovely human isn’t he? Awaken is the definition of sublime! I bought Drama when it came out and was blown away by it (already having been amazed by my first ever album purchase-Permanent Waves!) I then went on to listen to the “real” Yes with Jon singing (Going for the One); and again I was amazed! His new album is incredible!
Yes are my favourite of the classic Prog rock bands and Jon is my favourite Prog singer. I love all the Yes albums and JA solo too. Jon is Prog! No Jon no Prog. 😊 Put simply I can’t imagine life without this man’s music and lyrics. Thank you Andy, thank you Jon. 🎼 🎤 ❤ ☮️ ✌️🎙️ 🎶…. 🙏
Careful Andy,The ratio of filming and cliff deaths are incredibly high.Absolutely love your channel and look forward to all videos.Don’t die please,Sir.
LOL -- Nothing better than watching Andy gush like a little girl meeting a boy band idol. 😆 And Jon... "[Marc Chagall] was like me. Very happy, very stoned..." 😂
Jon lent his voice to a contemporary Christian music song titled, "The Only Thing I Need" with the group 4Him. It was put on a compilation type album called "Streams". From the first couple of chords there's Jon doing what he does, and the song sounds fantastic - especially the chorus. Look it up on TH-cam if you've never heard it. It's worth the listen.
More about Marc Chagall... I once went to a lecture at my mother's retirement community of a man who was a Chagall expert. Not only that, when this lecturer was a boy, his family were friendly with Chagall, and Chagall lived with them when he was in New York. Most mornings, Chagall would take the bus to the upper west side (they lived on the east side) and walk up and down Broadway, visiting the merchants he had befriended over time in the stores. One of those merchants' sons, many years later, discovered a previously unknown Chagall in his father's closet.
Andy thank your sharing the love that is embodied in Jon. What a great conversation! And you can't get more uplifting than Awaken and Starship Trooper in my book! Yes Album was my first as well, then just got full on, even wrote a paper about them once for some writing class.
Thank you Andy , I absolutely loved it. I have been YES fan oddly enough due to first album when they covered the Beatles Song , Every-little thing . I was a teenager with no money in 1980 my local library would allow you to check out album's, much like books. My 2nd Yes album was Drama , thanks to my local library. I have seen Jon play live more than I have seen YES. Thank you.
Andy, what a get! A beautiful interview! The life force of Jon Anderson will keep me happy thru the season. Don't take this interview off the site. I will return to watch it a few times more. God bless! And happy birthday, Jon
Gooodnesss..... For some reason , I went to Google Jon and found out it is His birthday.today 🎉 Amazing Happy Birthday Jon🍀🎶🍻 Well .. I 'm french German...and have known yes since my student years in Germany in thé 70 ies... And off and on I will listen ..liké Yesterday evening ..the Montreux show And it seems liké everytime I listen, I'm more impressed.. I missed their show in Frankfurt in thé 70.ies ..🤧. To think that théy did this over FIFTY 50 years ago just blows my mind. And what is beautiful stays beautiful, and maybe éven gains in beauty and goodness...liké good wine Eternity is a long time🌈🫰
Either my allergies were acting up or my eyes got a little misty at one point.....Andy, when you said Jon Anderson and Keith Emerson were the most important fellows in prog you became my friend for life. ...You sure as hell were speaking for fans like me -- at a couple of moments it appeared that our joy flowed through you and reached Jon via the ether. ....Random thought: Will Yes have another hit when the new Tom Hanks movie comes out? I'd be cool with that..... Thanks again, Andy -- best interview with Jon I've seen in a while.
A very happy birthday to the great GEM- of music and spirituality. John Anderson, convey my love !!!!brilliant show Andy John is the heart and soul and mind of yes and beyond into the universe , like he believes-we must thank the universe and be grateful for him and all the other billions of miracles we recieve in our lives, well done and sometimes you have to put your life on the line in the devil’s armchair, when you’re a star music podcaster likee yourself! Laugh out loud .
Bravo sir. Great interview. Jon is the man - and not only is he the heart of Prog, but he's the voice, too. Re the Trevor Horn episode. I was in the crowd at the legendary Hammersmith Odeon gigs. on the Drama Tour. There was Drama alright, but it wasn't pretty. I felt for him.
Good interview, Andy. What an interesting man! Yes fall in the “find interesting and worthwhile but don’t really relate to” category for me. So happy to learn more and am listening to some of their content on Spotify.
Also I was interested that Anderson cites Sibelius as an influence. One of the impressive aspects of Yes is the way the music is kept flowing in extended pieces whilst staying interesting and making sense. The Sibelius influence helps explain for me why this is.
And here I was under the impression that England was mostly farmland and.. well.. somewhat flat? ..but then: "Mountains come out of the sky/And-y stand there!!"
Jon Anderson Animation gave me and others so many hours of sonic pleasure and wow! what a lineup Jon Anderson - vocals, acoustic guitar, Simon Phillips - drums and percussion, David Sancious - keyboards, Clem Clempson - guitars, Stefano Cerri - electric bass guitar, Chris Rainbow - vocals, and more. Produced by Tony Visconti. I need to get more of Jon's solo stuff, any recommendations?
Animation is certainly a big fave! Wonderful memories of the tour and countless listenings. Toltec is great, so is Deseo. 1000 Hands is magnificent, as is all of his work with Vangelis!
I heard Yours Is No Disgrace on the Alan Freeman show, taped it and listened to it incessantly. Andy please do a show on Alan Freeman he was the Tommy Vance of the 70's. Bit before you're time I suppose. He played all the prog bands as well as punk when it came in. I discovered Yes Floyd Crimson Deep Purple X-ray Specs on his show.
Met Jon during a meet-and-greet with Rick and Trevor . I was so exited that the bring-a-long Belgian chocolats for the guys were forgotten. Had a week of chocolat time
For a guy from Lancashire, he sure doesn't have much of an accent anymore. I guess he spent a lot of time in California. Anyway, I love the man. Yes albums are monuments of sound. He's a genius.
Bought my first Yes album in 1978, it was "Going for the One".....Bought Rush "Hemisphere" at the same time ... Dad looked at me kinda puzzled....." Why is my son buying two albums with naked men on them? Should I be worried about my fourteen year old son?"...😅
Happy 80th Birthday, Jon and many happy returns 💝
Happy Birthday, Jon! 80 years old and still a fantastic voice.
Wow! Getting Jon is huge! 🙂
Who knows who else we'll see! Well done Andy!
