I had both of these figures as well as their motorcycles, but I feel like some of the things were different, like I don’t remember any stickers on the uniform, I want to say they were little patches maybe? Also neither of those sunglasses were what came with the two chips guys I had, but maybe it was just an earlier or later version or something. Anyways, had almost forgotten I had these guys, watching this made 40+ years ago just fly up into my face hahaha. Thank you for that, ha
I had these guys as a kid. My Ponch broke at the knee and wrist. Love the video. And you were right about the stickers. Mine fell off the first day I had them
As always, a super job on the repairs. But, you did an amazing job on the stickers. You are simply the best at what you do. Thanks so much for the time you put in to show the toy world how it's done.
Haha late to the party here but I just remembered my brother and I had these figures in the early 80s in NZ. Poor old Ponch got pretty battered as I recall!
Nice video and job on the restoration. I enjoyed watching it. I never had or knew of these toys, but it did bring back good memories of having the CHiPs ride-on toy motorcycle and helmet set back in the day.
Ponch and Jon need their motorcycles! They just don't look right without their bikes! Maybe they can borrow Evel Knievel's motorcycle or his rocketplane? Jon can take the motorcycle. Ponch should take the rocket over Snake Canyon for a spin. Ponch looks like a rocketman or at least a B-movie space vampire in this video...
Kyle's Dad: Wow...I completely forgot about 'Chips' until now. The Ponch head sculpt looks really good, but John -- not so much. Great fun to see you working on these. Another good video, David. Our first episode is posted, by the way, if you would like to watch it.
Great restoration vid. (The badge and name tag decals should actually go above the pockets though.) I just got a couple of these carded on ebay for a good price. The cards were pretty messed up and I opened them up. Both of Ponch's knee pins were broken and Jon had a broken right foot and a cracked left foot! I made all the repairs and now they look great. I even ironed their uniforms and gave them military creases. One thing I noticed, when looking at reference photos, is that Jon actually wore tan gloves. I guess that one got by Mego.
Absolutely brilliant video was hoping you would be restoring the chips figures. Not long ago I got John and Ponch for my mego collection and I’m in the process of completing them. Just like you said in video Im missing the stickers so I will be downloaded them from your website and making a donation to you . 👏🏻👌🏻
Nice job Dave, i'm definitely with you on the badges, stickers to put on clothing is 1 of my pet hates, thankfully there weren't too many outfits that have them, they aren't really fit for purpose, it would be great to see you reproduce some fabric versions of these badges.
Love your videos. Btw, Do you have tips on repair broken peg joint, I do have situations that the pegs are broken, I would like to add a metal pin to strengthen the peg, the problem is that the peg is stuck in the peg hole and I can't take it out
+Toy Polloi That's funny you did this video.i was trying to restore my chips, figs a few months back.and was hoping you would do a chips video.my question to you is,how would I remove the pegs from the knees from mego figs?I find it very difficult.on a side note,I'm very angry at myself, because I lost one of the chips helmet.anyway great video.
Just a thought: There was a soft goods item I had once that was fraying at one edge, really badly. So, I trimmed it and then mixed some water with white glue, and with a fine-tipped paintbrush, I carefully painted this diluted glue onto the trimmed edge. If you are really careful (on an almost microscopic level) you can do it so that it can't even be seen once dried...and it stops the fraying.
Your videos inspire me! I've just gotten my first Mego's to try and repair. I've seen some people use things like vanish on clothes - do you recommend that? Also, do you think it's worth trying to re-string a body if it's a little loose?
Two big o-rings! Looks like a simple job - I just need some new legs. I hand washed a Mego Hulk shirt and trousers, and a word to the wise: the purple on the trousers _instantly_ began to leak so I swiftly separated the shirt from the trousers. Anyone who does the same watch out for that. I might use a very weak bleach on the shirt which didn't seem to look any better for washing with washing up liquid.
I know originally they had stickers, but for display purposes wouldn’t they look better with a physical replacement? Like cardboard badge? Or plastic? Just a curiosity, not a bad comment 😁
I have a suggestion. How you have a Lego/No Lego graphic, you should have a "Stickers FREE on ToyPollli - Don't buy from scammers on eBay" graphic too, you know for the humor and whatnot...

Great as usual! On the real CHiPS uniform the badges go above the pockets. Ponch wears his watch on the left.
brilliant mego restoration on jon ponch toy polloi

It’s real early in the morning here in the USA lol but I gotta watch this before I fall asleep....CHEERS!
Toy Polloi is the Bob Ross of vintage toy repair.
He even does his own painting!
I missed out on these.
Loved the show

Love a sink montage
I don't know why, but so do I lol
Awesome as usual!

Fantastic work as always!
Amazing job!
Glad you like it!

Great stuff - love your work with Photoshop!
I've used a toothpick as replacement pin for a mego foot.
nice fix as usual

Any recommendations on how to clean the spots off of a mego head?
I think that I may have the 1 x original sunglasses for these figures.
Good work colour matching the hair Dave !
Thanks. This was a tricky one. Such an odd shade.
I always have trouble with blonde hair figures...often ad blue to get a slight green yellow

I've covered the knee pegs a few times in other MEGO restorations. So check out those videos for more tips. Cheers
+Toy Polloi Thank you!,I will check them out.
Soooo....... John has under pants, and Ponch doesn’t, well I guess that’s probably screen accurate 🤣🤣🤣
John was classy enough to wear bikini briefs on the job, but probably went commando off duty picking single ladies up at discos and BMX rallies.

Great video 👍. What is green board you are working on called ?
A cutting mat, check out the tool shop on toypolloi.com - www.toypolloi.com/index.php/tool-shop
Do you know of any way I could transport my Megos without damaging them? Like what I should put them in when I take them somewhere
bubble wrap. And lots of it.
Do you know how to restore vintage glow in the dark figures? That would help me a lot! :)
Your videos inspire me! I've just gotten my first Mego's to try and repair. I've seen some people use things like vanish on clothes - do you recommend that? Also, do you think it's worth trying to re-string a body if it's a little loose?
Re-stringing is easy, I've covered this before. So go for it. The bleach depends on the fabric as it can damage it. So go carefully on old fabric.

Awwww....!
Just goes to show you -- the best toys WERE based off the cheesy stuff that was made in the 1970s and 1980s!
John looks like a blonde vulcan.
He does. I'm sure many people have used him for Star Trek customs. I would.
With those eyes, I was thinking he was a vampire.
Ponch looks like he's dead... such a grey face!
I guess Jon didn't take the renewal course in CPR and Ponch drowned at the beach...
Quint now goes by Bryan apparently.
I'm curious -- who IS Quint?
I know originally they had stickers, but for display purposes wouldn’t they look better with a physical replacement? Like cardboard badge? Or plastic? Just a curiosity, not a bad comment 😁
I can hear the classic '70s theme song in my head. Great video, as ever. Didn't John wear brown/tan gloves and Ponch wore black?
Yup Jon tan gloves and Ponch black gloves
I have a suggestion.

Do you know where I could find a cheap ponch, jon, and sarge Megos? Cause I can't pay $40+ for a good condition one.
They turn up on ebay pretty cheap all the time. Just have patience.
@@toypolloi whats a good price for one?
@@toypolloi also do you know if you can buy a ponch hand anywhere
Is there a Sarge doll
More mego videos
Ouch!
That hurt a little as you cut away the scraggly fabric. That's history you cannot reclaim. I would have just tucked the bits inside the sleeves.
The sunglasses you refer to as “originals” are not. The repro ones you got are exact copies of the originals.
Couldn't you just make a mold of the original belt that you do have?
dr mego, klingon boots cut flat
All that’s needed now is a Harley police cycle 🏍👮♂️
Why does ponch look like a zombie especially his face.
