Sony MDS-JE530 Minidisc Player Recorder that doesn't record

- We take a look at a faulty Sony Minidisc, it plays fine but doesn't record. Can I get it working?

It Is always the MDS-JT530 their expensive flagship model that always goes wrong. I have had two 330's, and never had a problem ever. Good Luck.

You can buy on Amazon or elsewhere, an adaptor to put optical into coaxial, or vice versa.
sometimes c14 is the disc itself, wipe it and try again or try another, when you bought the other drive unit was it from a 530 or a 520, it may explain c13 on the other if it was from a 520, they are similar but not the same as 530 is type r and 520 is not, also never assume that the laser is shot, its not always the case, dirty ribbon cables can also cause that fault and a few other things, only 1 other common model has the same drive as a 530 and thats a 930 which is a far higher spec model, the owh can be fixed but you need microscopic soldering skills to rejoin the contacts, looks like at some point the owh was out of position and when you or whoever put a disc in it broke the end off, quite common on the mdm 5 drives.

Watch out for the eyes,the kms-260 laser is in the 780nm range.
This is invisible infrared light from the laser, and not so good for the eyes.Use laser safety goggles 780nm range.
A laser power meter with a range of 780nm may be useful for adjustment.
an lpm is very handy though hard to come by and can be expensive, in the service manual there is a test jig which is fairly easy to build for this type of drive unit
they can inform you of laser health etc
You do know that even touching the laser assembly will destroy it right? youre supposed to wear nitrile gloves.

Iv just bought 1, it reads the track but doesnt give out any sound.. the sound isnt even showing on the db scale, any thoughts?TIA

The Lens Sled is not in line , mine was doing the same thing . Fixed now
So the transport has to be replaced? It is irreparable?
Good morning, here and Helio I'm from Brazil. I have a Sony JE520 MD Player where the mechanism is the same as the video. My equipment has the same problem does not record. However I am not finding the piece to buy. I wonder if you would have this piece for sale.
