Keep good records & work on a family of birds that fly & produce very consistent. From there you have many options to build on. I would tell you how i built my 2 families but way to long . But i like the direction your heading in as far as breeding . You have very nice looking birds & look's like you take good care of them . 👍👍

As a former breeder with yrs of experience, i know exactly what he meant. You pretty much figured right on that. Some would not agree that the way you paired birds is a good way for various reasons. Mostly because of some families not being "compatible" with others. I never held much belief in that. Here in Hawaii, our birds face terrain much more challenging than most other places. So we have to breed accordingly. A lot of the time we found it necessary to cross breed pure bloodlines for this reason. As you become more experienced and knowledgeable, at least in my experience, youll start to get gut feelings about what birds to put together based on this alone. I like the pairings you chose and the reasons/methods why you did this in the way you did.
With my own birds I knew what I wanted to breed at the end of last breeding season but because these aren’t my birds and I have no information other then race results so I chose to breed good to good. I also don’t believe that there is any right way to breed birds. The chances of getting an ace is just as high whether I pair them if they just pair them selves. There are many wrong ways of doing it, breeding by color or families/strains I believe can set you back years. In my opinion I don’t believe in families not crossing well with others, maybe the birds weren’t compatible but not an entire family of birds. My goal is to get a few good birds to replace some of my older stock that hasn’t proven to be any good. I don’t want to bring in any new birds or strains until I have a good family myself

It all depends on what results you want. sometimes when birds choose mates them selves despite trying to pair them with other birds can result in good offspring. Sometimes the birds see something we missed. I found that to be true enough times to where when this happens I let them stay together. As far as older birds are concerned, I used fosters for birds older than 7 yrs to prolong fertility for these older birds. especially when I needed more of that particular bloodline. With the quality and known history of the birds you're breeding, I don't see how you can get any offspring that won't perform well. Only poor maintenance and performance on your part will result in a poor outcome. But I don't see that happening. The only suggestion I have is use fosters for the older birds. You have a big amount of birds that basically will just sit there and eat and crap. Use some for fosters so at least they don't end up being just an expense. If you have any questions about this, just ask. I'll be happy to help.

Both my grandparents kept pigeons so I’m not new to racing homers just new to racing. And your absolutely right, my management can be the weak link to not achieving my end goal. My partner did the training and flying in races. So I had more time to dedicate towards breeding than most other fanciers who did both. And my ability to "know" which birds to pair was considered uncanny even by other experienced fanciers. This is the part of pigeons I miss the most. I look forward to seeing the results of your breeding.
I recently received some good birds, a pedigree and some race winners. I have six of eight pairs starting nests. Learning as much as I can. Seems like you know what youre doing. I have my 2018 leg bands and I'm ready. Gonna be racing out of Cumberland valley racing club.
That’s awesome brother. It’s an amazing sport to get into and even tho the birds are the athletes it’s up to you to give them what they need to perform. No slacking lol if your not on top of you game someone else is. Wish you the best man and defiantly keep in touch.

Hey dude ive just started back up in racing pigeons took over me dads racing pigeon set uk looking forward to start pairing the stock birds up me dads mate who had sopped flying due to health problems gave me all his birds 40+ most are from my dads french breed as they were in Partnership back in 2009 till 2014 when my dad started on his own but he is moving to fly at a new pace based in uk

I’m breeding from 16 pairs at the moment. Most of the birds are my uncles Romanian Dave. I do trade and borrow from friends and club members. Normally I would be breeding from my own birds but since I have them here I may as well breed a couple rounds and select the best.

Honestly i leave my lights on 24 hours. I found it didn’t make a difference and I don’t like to bother with a timer or having to turn it off myself. Just my opinion. 8 pair is a nice number to work with. Good luck this up season. Keep me informed
that's what I was thinking...guess ill start leaving the light on all night. My biggest concern right now since its getting cold,is if I should leave the first egg in the nest or remove it and place a fake egg til they lay the second? what do you think? the girls seem to be staying in the nest right now and only came out to eat.
At 7:58 did u say it was picked by your wife?, hell i have never heard of a guy supported by his wife breeding pigeons. My wife would rather burn my coop down then support me. At times she Will give me a nasty look for buying a bag of feed cost $16 here. My friends wife rather get a devorce except that they just felt like getting stuck in a marriage. U r a very lucky guy man, love ur wife if she support u.

I’ve had pigeons since I was about 9. But both my grandparent kept pigeons so I was exposed very early. I didn’t start racing till last year
What is the size of the individual coop?
I don’t understand the question. The big coop is 8/16 and hens coop is 4/8 and the breeder boxes are 24in wide, 16in deep and 16in tall.

The base is 9 1/2, the bowl is 8 1/2 and it’s 2 1/2 deep. That’s rough measurement u can add/remove an 1/8 either way

No leave it. They will keep it warm enough. Don’t make more work for urself. Too much room for error.

Dude I am blessed. My wife loves them and she races more then me do to my wrk schedule.
Plus she weans all my youngsters and does the morning feed. U can hear her on the weaning video callin them for feed lol
