    I'm 63 years old. I remember as a 5 year old child riding with my grandad in his 1965 Chevy pickup to the general store for a pack of white owl cigars and a Sunday paper. Grandpa would always grab me a bottle of mountain dew from the cooler. We didn't drink a lot of soft drinks back them, so it was always a big treat when I got one. . . . Thanks for the memories grandpa.

    Back in high-school in the mid 90s, we would have bonfires on Friday nights. Everyone brought their own food and drink, but we would basically have a big tailgate party around a big campfire. I would bring a "cube" of Dew, (I can't remember now if it was 24 or 36 cans), and drink all of them myself. My friends all thought I was nuts and couldn't figure out why I wasn't pinging of the trucks like a pinball lol. I found out years later that I had ADHD and the caffeine was doing the opposite to me than it did to my friends.

    • @chrismichaelyoung
      @chrismichaelyoung 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      Cubes have 24 cans, at least they do now. I think this drink is quite popular with ADHD people for that very reason, calms the nerves and focuses the mind like any other stimulant, and Mtn Dew has the most caffeine out of any other soda. I remember me and all my friends back in church youth group would drink the stuff like water. Not to mention, caffeine is incredibly addictive, like any other stimulant.

    Back in the mid 90s I would go to stay with my mom in Memphis during the summer. She would enter all those random giveaways at the grocery store and entered me in a Mt Dew one and totally forgot. I got a call one day while she was at work saying that I had won, but we didn't know what they were talking about and thought it was a scam. We drove to the address and it was a huge office building. They gave me a load of EXTREME Mt Dew gear including shirts, a windbreaker, a bag, but the big item was a custom Mt Dew skateboard. I wasn't interested in skating, so I took it to a shop and they gave me like $200 for it. That was pretty cool because I was like 13 or whatever, but I kind of wish I still had it now.

    Rare Old Mountain Dew by The Quare Fellas is a TOTAL JAM!!! THEY'RE SCOTTISH and I'm about 2/5 Scotch though I've yet to start on my first. My Grandpfather (McCaig) ran the top Plumbing company in Topeka Kansas. In the 60's there were always bottles of Hillbilly Themed Mountain Dew on the stairs down to the Basement. FANTA Orange in Italy in a 2 Ft. Bottle may've been my first soft drink Thrill but Mt. DEW was pretty much the first caffeine pop I'd ever been introduced to and Boy does it hold a special place in my heart. I''m old enough to remember drinking 10 oz. glass bottles of Mountain Dew (which could be returned for cash deposit) with the hillbilly livery on the bottles. No mention in the video of "Bub and Pud" -- the two feuding hillbillies on the bottles at one time. I would also add that the switch from an Appalachian motif to the youthful Rocky Mountain vibe coincided with the decline of rural TV shows in the early '70s and the popularity of John Denver's "Rocky Mountain High." With the multitudes of Mt. Dew flavors currently available, I wish Pepsico would re-release the formula they used in the 1960s. It was my favorite soda as a little kid. I'd love to taste it again.

      Come over to Europe and try a Mt. Dew here - "real sugar" (still can't get over the absolutely ridiculous fact that this is some kind of fancy "buzz word" in the oh-so-great US, nowadays..) and a lot less sweet overall, since Europeans can't stomach the overly sweet American products.

    I still remember my very first Mountain Dew. Orlando, Florida 1987. My parents took me to Disney World and the hotel we were staying at had a soda machine at the end of the hall. It was probably the first time I was allowed to use a soda machine by myself too. The only sodas my parents ever bought were Coke and Sprite so when I was presented with different choices of soda it was a mind-blowing experience. I had no idea what Mountain Dew was, I only selected it because the logo looked neat. After that first can, I was hooked and I kept pestering my mom for change so I could run back to the machine and get another Mountain Dew. I remember more about that damn soda than I do the whole trip to Disney World.

    Oh boy, lots to say here… first had MD as a kid on Tom Sawyer’s Island at Disneyland (approx 1969). Never had it after that until around 1985 and it brought back those childhood memories. I went to work for Pepsi in 1991 as a delivery driver. The facility I worked at was a bottling plant so it package every type of container possible along with all the other products/flavors we carried at the time ie….Mug Root Beer, Squirt, Slice etc (oh yes, don’t forget Crystal Pepsi). On my route I had two truck stops I serviced each week. It DID NOT matter how much MD I took in the week before, they were out. I would deliver….both kinds of fountain products, cases of 6pk cans, 16 oz bottles, 12 oz long neck bottles, 2 liter bottles….all gone in those 7 days. Each truck stop had three places to stock, fuel desk, restaurant and general store. Have always had fond memories of the “Dew”

    There are quite a few discrepancies in this video. Game Fuel, as of last November, is not defunct. It had a re-release as last year's Christmas flavor. It will be re-releasing next holiday season as well along with another Game Fuel flavor, aside from the original Citrus Cherry.
    Dollar General does not have Sweet Lightning as their exclusive flavor: they have Maui Burst. Sweet Lightning is a restaurant exclusive flavor at KFC.
    Mountain Dew Rise, or after the lawsuit, Energy, is no longer in production. It has been slowing down and liquidating ever since late last year. This video was uploaded only recently, so I would have expected these facts to have been known beforehand.

    i was born in '80, and i'm not ashamed to say i LOVE Mtn Dew and i always have. my dad was a strict Dr. Pepper guy...he wouldn't touch any other soda, not even Pepsi or Coke. he was so stoked watching Forrest Gump the first time, i'm not even kidding.
    anyway, we weren't supposed to drink soda when we were kids. dad's Dr. Pepper was hands-off, but the prob was, he'd buy 3-4 cases at a time and keep it in the big old garage fridge, so who'd notice a couple cans missing? nobody. we were very careful to take the cans with us or bury them in the trash.
    the first time i tasted Mtn Dew, i was probably 8 years old...and from the first sip, i was hooked. absolutely, undoubtedly hooked. it was a hot summer day, we were out riding bikes, and we went to the drugstore for a drink...Mello Yello or Mtn Dew? i picked Dew. the green can and white label looked weirdly attractive.
    i crushed that first can in like 6 huge chugs. burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrpppp. my god, that was the most delicious thing i'd ever drank.
    well, now i'm almost 44 and i drink 1-2 Dews every single day. i even have it with breakfast most of the time. i'm never, ever giving up Dew. no way, no how.
    i'm not overweight or diabetic, probably because i've never been that big of an eater. but it's true that i've spent about $30,000 in dental bills over the years, which isn't Dew's fault, but my own. i'm sure it didn't help, but getting into bad habits in college (partying all weekend and even weeknights pretty often) hurt my dental health, and i had to get it fixed and get back into better habits.
    so that's my story of a love affair with Dew. i still think they should bring back the full name Mountain Dew (instead of Mtn) and the classic white and green can.

    I started drinking Mountain Dew in the 1990s. I felt like the only one around Los Angeles, where I grew up. When I joined the Army in 2002 I was amazed to see that Army guys loved it (the Army is disproportionately Southerners). Vending machines in any base always had it (because the vendors were smart). I mean, Army guys didn't guzzle it, but it was just there and I didn't feel like an oddball by loving it. I left the Army after 12 years. I've cut down on it since, as I'm not young and naturally skinny anymore. But anyway, all along I remember the commercials showing people doing extreme sports or being outdoorsy, and implying they drink Mountain Dew, and I never understood it. No one I knew who was into that stuff drank Mountain Dew. The civilians I knew who did drink it were fat and sedentary. The ads didn't influence me at all; it was the sweet flavor and caffeine. But somehow the campaign must have worked, as they did it for so long. Did fatties drink Mountain Dew thinking this associated them with fit people? Or did these ads really influence the subculture of fit people and get them to drink 170 calories in 12 ounces? Please respond in the replies with your thoughts.

That said, some of the best moonshine I've ever had came from Martinsville, Virginia and was awesome paired with Mountain Dew as a mixer or chaser. Does anyone remember when Mountain Dew did a survey amongst the public asking for a name for their apple flavor? The winning flavor name (before the survey was quickly taken down and limited to a select few chosen names) was "Hitler Did Nothing Wrong Mountain Dew" quickly followed in second place by "Gushing Granny Mountain Dew".... Very True Stories!

    Very interesting, informative and entertaining video. Thanks for uploading this.
    However, you forgot one little detail. For a long time, one of Mountain Dew's ingredients was "Brominated Vegetable Oil" (BVO for short). It was removed from the soft drink after the FDA linked it to cancer and other health complications in humans. However, the ingredient is still being used only in a few generic variants of citrus based sodas. Today's variant of the soda no longer has this particular ingredient.
    I just thought I'd share this information with you.

    I stopped drinking soda about 30 yrs ago, but once in a while I'd have a Johnnie Walker Red with Ginger ale up to around 2007. 2 months ago I decided I needed a stimulant, beside coffee as it makes me really jittery and makes me itch. So I tried Mountain Dew Zero, and I drink a half a bottle a day since.

    I saw Holiday Dew in the video but it wasn't mentioned. I've only had it once. You can make it yourself by mixing Code Red with Original. You can also mix blue Powerade with Original to make Baja Blast.

      Seriously ? Blue Powerade and regular Dew ? I was telling my wife a few weeks ago whenever we couldn’t find anymore Blast on the shelves, that it had to be something incredibly simple because it was created at a Taco Bell so I don’t doubt what you’re saying, but now I gotta try it.

    • @chriswhat21
      @chriswhat21 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I made it when they didn't have it on shelves. I think it's called Mountain Berry Blue. It's not a 50/50 mix. It's closer to 2/3 Dew, 1/3 Powerade. You can play with it til it's right.
