One thing people tend to forget or just not understand about evolutionary strategies: There is no unique "right" strategy. Species change and apply new strategies over time. You don't have to remain fixated on one strategy. There's nothing stopping us from sleeping around behind our partner's backs and reproducing, survival-wise. In fact, our species has done quite a bit of just that and managed to survive perfectly fine.

I’ve heard a number of couples explain “their” open relationship. There are a few commonalities:
1. They come off like they’ve found the holy grail.
2. It’s usually the GF that comes off the most insecure while trying to sound the most confident.
3. The BF sounds like he truly wants to believe he wants an open relationship, but he’s just doing it to make his GF happy and he lacks the strength and dignity to give her a reasonable ultimatum.

So here's my account on this, if you're in an open relationship its because of one or more reasons:
1) You cannot commit to one person sexually because of a high labido
2) Commitment issues (so non-monogomous relationships takes away infidelity accountability)
3) Your history makes it very difficult for you to find a partner so the next best thing will do
4) Preferability to hook-up culture
5) Having a partner as back up option so you don't doe alone while making the best out of getting beat by everyone

There are two versions of marriage. One where you essentially tie your life to another person's and live as if the two of you are one.
The other is where it's two people who are dating and live together.
Not gonna say which is better for any particular individual, but it helps to compartmentalize marriages this way if you want to think about these things. And often the latter evolves into the former when kids enter the picture. Those that don't have that transformation are where many broken homes come from.

Yes, people tend to respect him because what he says is rarely discredited or retracted. It seems like their open relationship is meant to compensate for eachothers inability to submit to their partners needs. Destiny is one of thos "ADHD and on the autism spectrum" type of guys, meaning he constantly has to engage in hyperstimulating activities e.g video games and streaming, resulting in him neglecting the needs of his partners. She is of the more hedonistic nature resulting in her overwhelming people like Destiny with her needs for connection. Their solution is that he allows her to have her needs fullfilled by other guys, while she allows him to neglect her by drowning himself in his internet addictions, instead of both of them taming themselves and actually putting in effort and dedication. Not sure how healthy that is, however it´s an arrangement that seems to be working out for them. At least for now.
