    I have never composed or recorded anything worth listening to without the K1 string pad patch somewhere in the mix. I have newer and much more expensive synths. But that one patch on the lowly K1 - beats em all. I've tried to figure out why but I can't. Whatever it has - the K1 string pad patch is magic. It's the sound of my life for sure.

      I now exactly what you mean and I think it´s about this unique resonance. Play A1 and A2 together and drift away! Never found that on any other Synth or sample. It´s realy magic.

    Considering that the K1 is a very basic synth this is one of the best demos i have seen :-). This proves that a good synth can help to do better music, but is the musician who does the work.

      @R. M The problem with the K1 was never, "It can't sound good," but learning how to coax all those amazing sounds out... Of all the 80's - 90's digital synths I own, (and I own a LOT), the K1 is probably the single hardest one to program really unique sounds for.

    • @MrDazydude

      Should say "Addictive Synthesis" instead of Additive Synthesis. Layering Patches is not Additive Synthesis ;)

    • @revel8or
      @revel8or 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a PCM synth. Kawai made the K5000 series, which are additive synths. Completely different animals.
      Also, the reverb on this demo is far beyond the abilities of this synth. Played one for a bit, and it wasn't this good. The basic sounds, yes, and it is multi-tracked, probably in a DAW of some sort...
      Nonetheless, a good demo, and it is a capable synth.

    • @pvf6435
      @pvf6435 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Any time you ADD multiple waveforms together to create a sound you do additive synthesis, no matter if it's 1024 harmonics or 4 digital/sampled waveforms. That being said, I wished my K5 had the ability to cross modulate between it's oscillators.

    I am the original owner of a Kawai K1 and both purchased new in 1988. Also, a Kawai K4 I bought a year later. The K1 was not out in 1985. You should edit your title do say 1988. Also, the K1 doesn't have any onboard effects. So much of what is heard here is processed after the fact.

    • @looneyburgmusic
      @looneyburgmusic 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Does it really matter if efx were added afterwards?
      No one worries when someone does a guitar demo and adds effects. No one even notices actually. But add effects to a synth and all of a sudden the sky is falling. That makes no sense. Pretty much every song ever recorded in the history of music had some type of post-processing/effects added at some point.

      The guy who posted the video says he only used a reverb.

    • @kiskadar69
      @kiskadar69 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @looneyburgmusic: yes, it does matter that the creator used an external effect, especially if he/she did not tell us. In such cases, the listener may think that the synth sounds so good on its own.
      Otherwise, this demo is good.

    Beautiful! Hey would you know if it’s easy to change the battery inside the K1 yourself instead of getting an expert to do it? It’s been a while since I’ve had the battery replaced and I’m not sure how long I’ve got before it gives up on me. I need to get a midi adapter fir my Mac as well so I can back my sounds up. I’m listening to your video while I’m typing this and your composition is quite amazing. Thanks!

    Wonderful demo!!! I only have issue with you comment stating that you only used a K1. I have been using a K1 in one form or another since 1988 when they came out and I can tell you that the reverb I am hear is not part of the keyboard. You can claim that you made dedicated multi-patches to each sound, there is no way you can create echo and reverb like I am hearing. The K1 II had reverb and a dedicated drum channel are you using one of those?? Was this straight MIDI recording and we are hearing the K1 with an awesome Multi-patch pluged into effects chain or was this separate audio tracks of the K1 of various types of patches, multi-patches included that had effects added to. Thank you for your work. Again it sounds wonderful.
