I saw this in person yesterday at San Antonio and omg bro….The crowd was super crazy!! Such an amazing show and wonderful closing part, just an incredible show
I saw this in person in San Antonio too. The energy that Phantom brought was insane and the fans reaction was hair raising and electric. They took us to DCI church!

That fire and crowd engagement is what is lacking from BD since Felliniesque.. and why they might win the title, but they never win the hearts. Which, really should be one of the aims of any performance for crowds.
This show is only good until the ballad, where the theme and musical elements are kept consistent. The movement following the ballad feels like it’s just “plopped in” and the style change comes without warning. Sometimes this can be a good thing, like Bluecoats 2013, but the section is clearly a stab at the GE column. Wide sets, large-scale moments, the intermingling solos, you might as well write a sign and hold it up to the audience instead. While the closer is solid in comparison, the concept of the show falls apart with the spinning cage props. What do those symbolize? Why is the music conflicting again? Was there not a resolution in the 4th movement? What’s going on? And on top of it, the mello part is cool, but it’s not impressive. I wished it was louder and more complex with as many mellos as they have. Speaking of technical cleanliness, what is with the tone quality throughout this show? I know the judges are giving you points, but anyone with ears can hear the regular stick outs and imbalances throughout the show. Oh, and the second movement brass feature is dirty as hell for almost August.
The crowd hype behind this show is jaw-dropping, and I know the performers are loving every second of it!
