Just my humble opinion and thoughts, and I mean no harm, but I think what most of us (true) Alaskans want to know is what are you going to do to make this state beautiful & better by moving here??? Please people love this land & treated with the respect it deserves. And remember to give back!!!🙏❤️ Because we are resilient people in Alaska. Yes we live through hurricane wind storms. And the kids still go to school!!! Last season it knocked out businesses and took out our local KFC building. Semi’s trucks were knocked over too. Sooo would you know how to handle it, if there NO power was out up 5 days? Last winter was lots of snow. Finally broke down and bought a snowblower first one ever. Hello 9 Long months of winter!!! And my family would’ve been screwed this last winter without our neighbors/friends. There was no way a ambulance or police could even get to us, if they wanted to. We were literally stranded, It was that brutal. Thank God for woodstoves and generators. Anyways now I’ve watched Wasilla blown up with lots people and more homeless too. It’s (not) safe like it used to be. You can no longer leave your doors open. I’ve been robbed in our area twice in the 23 years we’ve lived here. Anyways as little girl I helped build 5 log homes on the Kenai Peninsula from raw land. This is so our friends & family would not have mortgages. I peel the house log, did the garden and horse chores. We still hunt & fish this whole state. My dad was a bush pilot, now my son is a pilot too. But we have been here since the early 70s. Please Wasilla is getting too huge. If you’re looking for the Alaska dream, do not live here in the valley, I recommend going further out. FYI I would never buy on knik area. That highway is brutal too. Look up the statistics rate on accidents. I’ve had personal friends and family in accidents on that road .. it’s freaking dangerous …Ekkk
It’s all so true. You have clearly stated how everything goes around here. We stay because of family and roots. You really need to be mentally strong and love the land. I do recommend researching and mentally preparing for the life, it’s not for the weak 👍🏻
"Make sure the type of crime and the level of crime matches what your into" LMFAO. You know your business is successful when you can use great humor like that. 🤣🔥
Commuting in the winter to Anchorage is truly awful! Don’t purchase a home in Wasilla or Palmer area if you’re going to work in Anchorage. I regret doing so and many coworkers have said the same. These areas are growing and looking pretty crowded versus years ago. 😢 I hope this information helps people making good decisions.
Yep and my family has been commuting since 1996. This was before the new four-lane highway. Please look up the on accidents on hitting a moose. I think we’re over 350+ dead this year?! Hello most people are lucky if they survive a car crash with a Moose. But It’s posted on the side of the road with signs. Also I can’t tell you how many how ditcher you see in a bad morning?! And because it’s a 65 mile an hour zone you can’t stop to help. It’s too dangerous… it’s pitch black dark out. Plus Lots of white out conditions at 5-7 am in the morning and holding onto the steering wheel for dear life!!! lol Praying to God you make it to work. Sometimes you can not see the white lines of the road because the snow is whipping and it’s white out conditions. Plus usually hurricane winds too. Ummm…Would they know how to drive safely in these conditions? So you need to be a good driver and know how to handle snow and ice. Also you will need to know how to pull out out of all those ruts in the road!!! In my humble opinion those are the most dangerous. It’ll pull you faster than you know what happened and your vehicle will be spinning fast. I’ve seen it happen in front of me….100 times!!! That highway is (not) fixed yet and there are blind spots that are dangerous too. I pray these people know how to drive in snow and ice. And these conditions will add up to 3 hours (one) way just to your commute to work. Or if the road is (closed) due to an accident, Now you are stranded until that Road opens. Sometimes hours!!! FYI I hate the Alaska state fair season too. Good thing I know a lot of back roads. Lol Anyways you better be a good driver too. Just my humble opinion through years of experience… Alaska will either make you or break you …❤️🙌
Hi! I am moving there from Federal Way, WA near Seattle. As it stands, I prefer areas where theft of all types occur and I can't leave out being robbed at the ATM. Most recently we had a family holding a candle light vigil for a murdered family member... A group of dudes did a drive by successfully injured two additional family members with rapid gunfire. What area would you suggest that can flip that bill? Thanks!
Aloha from kauai,Hawaii !! I’m looking for off grid type properties, where would you recommend?and what type of zoning should I be looking for? I’ve been keeping an eye on Talkeetna, glenallen, willow areas.any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated Mahalo
Hey Kahi! You'd be surprised how many folks I'm helping from HI these days lol Those are the right areas and I can direct you to the right person who can help with that. Feel free to reach out to my on my website (jgoecker.kw.com/contact) and I'll get you connected
Zoning in unincorporated areas is nonexistent. There are property line setbacks for buildings, well and septic the borough requires, other than that you can build what you want. If you don’t use a bank you don’t need licensed trades doing your work. I’ve been here over 40 years and the only permit I ever needed was to connect our driveway to the borough road.
I personally feel like I nailed that, but what would you add to my list?? :)
Who prefers drive bys? Lol 😆 your funny.
They are plans to build a Wasilla bypass highway south of the Parks Highway from Seward Meridian to Big Lake Road.

Wasilla is where we want to be!
I was really surprised at how busy of a town Wasilla actually is.

Jamin loves it when people say “off grid”. * Insert sarcasm here*.
