    i'm 16 and i graduate in 2023 and i always thought i was going to complete my doctorate in clinical psychology but yesterday i researched and found out about counselling psychology and i was over the moon as this is what i actually want to do. i'm really excited to watch this video and learn more about the difference 🥰

    it's crazy bc I was definitely set on clinical psych up until the middle of my undergrad, but then I started realising that counselling psych is more in line with what i want to do. thank you for this video 💖

      @@lesedimotsoeneng7260 not sure if i understand your question, but I also did a BA majoring in psych. when I say “convert” I mean that I switched (converted) from wanting to do clinical psychology to counselling psychology in my masters, so that’s what I applied for , bc it resonated more with me. i hope that answers the question ? 💕

    I am, or consider myself, to be a social activist in a way. My views and approach to life are feminist. Thus, counselling psychology would give me the platform to blossom. However, I am a sucker for psychopathology too. Decisions, decisions! 😩😅

      I remember someone asked my lecturer that and it depends on the university, some are picky whereas others aren’t so it completely depends on them 🤔 It would be best to contact the department directly and find out just to be sure 🙌🏽

      @@fortunatephasoana2408 Psychology does have Solution Focused Brief Therapy. Unfortunately you may not get exposed to these paradigms during your undergrad and honours year. But the possibilities are endless. And no we don’t give advice, we help clients become better solutionary to their problems. We walk with patients, but don’t determine which path they should take. I hope this brings clarity.

    • @LaurenUnalomeWellnessCo
      @LaurenUnalomeWellnessCo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      From what I’ve researched, it is possible but it depends on quite a few factors. You apply to convert your license through the HPCSA & they work on a case-by-case basis - it depends on factors such as how you were trained (practical & theoretical), work experience etc etc. 😅 It would honestly be best to contact them directly and find out exactly what the requirements are 🙏

  • @StarBoy-qt3kh
    @StarBoy-qt3kh ปีที่แล้ว

    What is the difference between ASCHP and HPCSA? I'm a bit confused about my degree. I thought I did enough research about my degree. It seems that i cannot become a psychologist in the future due to me doing a Ba degree in Psychology. I think I should have went the Bsc route. What do you think?

    Can Counseling Psychologists diagnose mental disorders?

    • @LaurenUnalomeWellnessCo
      @LaurenUnalomeWellnessCo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      According to the South African "HEALTH PROFESSIONS ACT, 1974 (ACT NO.56 OF 1974) - REGULATIONS DEFINING THE SCOPE OF THE PROFESSION OF PSYCHOLOGY" (Available here: www.gov.za/sites/default/files/gcis_document/201809/41900bn101.pdf), counselling psychologists can partake in "psychological assessment, *diagnosis*, and
      case formulation"!

      Psychologists who work in the public sector are renumerated according to Occupational Specific Dispensation (OSD). Interestingly OSD lumps all psychologists into one category without reference to whether they are counselling/ clinical/ educational etc. So a counselling psychologist working for Dept of Labour or Correctional Services will get remunerated on the same pay scale as a clinical psychologist working in a hospital - or an educational psychologist working for DoE
