"...it is..purple, because that is what I have loaded in my bobbin." Love it. Still, it probably could have used some flank feathers from the Malayan Bar-throated minla, but I suppose it will catch some less discerning fish.
This fly checks all the boxes. Easy to tie. Floats well.
Highly visible.
Durable(I have caught as many as 40 trout on one fly.)
Best of all, the fish love it.
There have been seasons here in the south Sierras when it’s the only fly I’ve thrown on my favorite small streams.
Hello Mr. Huge, enjoyed your video. You should throw more of these fly tying videos into the mix. Do some quick and simple ties, your fans might enjoy them, I did and you don’t get any huger fans than me. Fish on.
I tied a bunch of these about 10 years ago. I fished it one time during a cricket explosion hatch and it was obviously killer. The rest of them are safe in my big dry fly box. Thanks for the reminder to fish something different once in a while!
Thanks Ben!! Looks like a trout killer!!
This is one of my desert island flies. It's caught me so many trout!
this was very wholesome
What, no last moment sign off, or did I miss it. Thanks, some good ideas here about how variations can be added
The most basic beetle ( like the one tied ) is an absolute killer in the Driftless...
Thanks, Ben. I’ll try that on some bass and sunfish when it warms up here in Massachusetts. Keep it simple! 😎
The Grass Carp in my local canals would crush that beetle! It's warming up here in Phoenix and I have dry fly carping on my mind! 🙂✌️🎣
Are you casting at fish sucking the surface or blind casting near a fish you saw sunning?
How did I know you would be here?

Yep thats a nice beetle…well done.
Oh god, he’s doing it
In every video can you start saying something bad about the guy that won’t stop hotspoting and laughing at his own jokes (fly all szn) I don’t think you’ll ever run out of things to say.
me first
Just like @AboutTrout..... a 7 minute long video to tie a 3 minute guide fly. I want a refund for half of what I paid.
1/2 of 0 is 0. You’re welcome! (Yes I realize you’re being sarcastic; back at you! 😎)
