Love the message of confidence all while wearing the "I SUCK AT FLYFISHING" hat!
I’ve got a job interview this afternoon; I will be picturing myself fishing a mop fly under a bobber the whole time, and the person I’m talking to is a hungry rainbow trout.
I like the confidence in knots part. Sometimes i dont have confidence on my knots thatll cause me to let fish get on drag when theres no need. Ive lost fishing allowing slack due to lack of knot confidence

not sure if you’ve done a video on this but it would be interesting to hear your perspective on patience - whether that be as a guide, as a father teaching your kids to fish, or if you’re out on a solo trip. i’ve found that having both patience and confidence will actually help me fish more effectively and also helps to be more present/in the moment when i’m on the water

There’s a fishy feeling mode that goes hand in hand with confidence. Perhaps even the same sensation! It’s such a great vibe when ya just feel wicked fishy, and the atmosphere, mood, and confidence are all aligned. Keep up the great vids, Ben! They’re mostly geared toward the newer fisher but it’s solid confirmation bias also lol
Dead on Ben!! It ain’t bragging if you can back it up!! Hatton hares Ear and the peacock and olive bugger!! Gatherings and fly shows as a presenter did it for my confidence keep up the good fight!!!
This is SO true. Good for you! You can listen to all of these famous fly fishers, and their podcasts, and read all the books....but this is the first time i see and hear ANYONE offering this most important 'tip'.
And, you're absolutely right about extending this philosophy throughout our lives.
When we first set foot in the stream, and make that first cast, we KNOW that we should tie on a fresh leader, or tie a better knot etc. But, we generally don't. Our subconscious brain says, 'it's probably good enough', and that built-in tentativeness is transmitted to that first cast. An "okay" but not perfect cast....
Undertaking ANYTHING with confidence, but not 'foolish confidence', well-earned confidence, will tend to make the execution of that thing that much better, which tends to lead to better results.
Not weird at all and I appreciate the message and I could use a little confidence in my life and I'm 57!!

Timely advice. Yesterday my confidence waned with every missed hook set due to not anticipating the bite. Finally I managed to hook the big one, only for my knot to fail!
Great advice! My confidence fly is a foam hi-vis parachute ant. Definitely nothing worse than when you tippet fails and you have nothing to switch to. You start doing everything wrong because you’re worried about that tippet.
I am confident that I am okay with getting skunked.
