What kind of mallets is Mr. Bending using, and how did he decide to use them? (ie was it based on period performance practice, or were there other considerations involved in mallet selection?)
@@douro20 I'm well aware that timpani is a difficult instrument, as I am currently learning to play. While absolute pitch is really helpful, relative pitch is enough to get by in an orchestral setting.
No, these were made by Wolfgang Schuster in Vienna. I believe that he doesn't make them any more though I may be mistaken. There are other makers in Vienna who make very similar drums. Do get in touch if you want any further information. Adrian

Schnellar for the 21st century - add some motors, sensors, and an app controlled by pedals and voila; tune-on-the-fly Schnellar Timpani!
Adams have the pedals etc
Not impossible if you have another person to do it for you.
Maybe not possible with the budget. The musicians union would not let you not pay the knob-turner.
Can I have them?
fraid not @tubbers20

Ah yes, the "pain-to-tune" timpani.
Timpani is not an easy instrument either way, and an orchestral timpanist must have perfect pitch.

@@douro20 you definitely don't need absolute pitch?? educate yourself before you speak

Cool
Buddy Rich used to do a one-handed roll.
Are these made by Adams? Are these the Schnellar Classical Model (as opposed to the Schnellar Amsterdam model)?
