2:27 actually that's not true. Black Noir's purpose was literally only to kill homelander if he went rogue. Black Noir didn't have flight or laser eyes, just insane super strength
Not true at all. Homelander was not unstable in comics. He even admits it to himself that “having a second evil persona inside my head is silly” In show, Homelander is full on split-personality dissociative condition mode. Homelander in the comic is a typical frat boy that cannot comprehend rape from “she agreed to it, we did not force her too”. He did kill a few people, but mostly out of Vought’s orders or clumsiness. That is the whole POINT of the comic. Homelander was NEVER an issue. The moment he tried to take over the world on his own accord, he threw up at the idea. It was Black Noir all along, that caused him to progressively snap.
Not unstable or massively dangerous but yes even before Black Noir he clearly isn't a good person in comics considering what happened with Starlight I would propably put it like this comic Black Noir>> show Homelander>>>>> comic Homelander (before he got driven mad by Black No)
This is the one series where I don't mind the large changes from the comics. Although the source material is fantastic, I feel like the writing that went into the show is good enough to stand on their own. The first time I felt like both versions stand on their own. Now I do think the comics should get an animated version too.
Well, we don't know much about BN yet. All we know is HIS perspective of how things happened. He is an unreliable narrator. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a Black Noir twist in the series after all. Thought of course not the one with Homelander's clone, but something else.
My brother finally had read the comics and he was shocked but he loves the fact he can now reference the comic to the show. Sorta caused him to be smug in a way.
Same thing with people who've read the Game of Thrones books, they get a lil smug. I've got nothing against it in of itself tbh, I love all fans of anything I also enjoy and having a bit of cheeky banter over knowing something others don't can be fine, there's just some who go a bit too far and become obnoxious because of it and spoil the fun of knowing something a fellow fan doesn't.
I disagree, it adds a bit more to the story to have everything you want to believe be partially false in the end. It's a hell of a reveal, but now what? What's the point of black noir? How are they going to end this series, homelander is simply degenerate scum and has been doing all these acts like we assumed since the beginning? No twist?
I feel like the list went from worst to least bad (although they were all terrible.) But sexual assault, murder, trying to force a new costume on starlight etc etc does not beat out killing and eating babies. The only thing worse would be kidnapping, sexually assaulting then killing and eating the children which god only knows..
Nah I’d put sexual assault above killing or eating babies, depends on the age tho, cuz the younger they r the less conscious they r of what’s happening, like a 1 year old being ate, wouldn’t experience the same trauma as an adult woman being raped
@@ncuveteran9100 No, that is not true due to the denial of the childs existence. The epitome of innocence violated and destroyed in a brutal manner. To never experience the joys of life. A SA survivor not only survives but can come to terms and move on.
@@ncuveteran9100 but think of it this way. what reason do you have for eating babies? for sexual assault we atleast know why people do it, but what does one get from eating children? humans don't taste better, there is no sick satisfaction to be had. So for me heinous stuff like that which gets done for absolutely no reason other than to just spread pain is worse than something done for personal gain.
The morale of the comics is drastically different. Show is a very shark criticism of late-stage capitalism and monopolistic, corrupt companies. Comic is a mockery of superhero genre more so than the socio-economic problems. More so, criticism of superhero consumerism and how amenable humanity is (need to create our own idols etc). In show, Homander is essentially a messed victim that lashes back, and is seen as villainous. But in all it’s worth, he is just a representation of what collective lack of accountability does - capitalistic monstrosities happen, public sweeps victims under the rug, and if they try to lash out, they become demonized. I am not saying that Homelander as a person in TV is decent. It is more so that he is a by-product of human greed and lack of accountability. Toxic waste that is now polluting everything, whilst company CEOs point fingers at scientists, politicians point fingers at CEO, etc etc etc - lots of blame, no accountability, toxic waste keeps existing and deteriorates everything. Homelander in TV is similar to Shin Godzilla in some ways. In comic, Homelander is a typical frat-boy. He is a contract killer for Vought, and a horrible, corrupt epitome of celebrity…. But that is it. He was never a psycho, and never developed split personality disorder as a defense mechanism. He tried really hard to do so… but he just cold not. He was a sane, albeit awful being. He is capable of regret and remorse. The whole twist with evil twin was actually one of the best “evil twin” twists and very well done, since Homelander, an otherwise awful but sane being, slowly became psychotic because he beloved himself to be psychotic. So, different goals (painting companies as bad VS painting consumers as bad) and different means (one is a lashing out victim, another is a subtle play on sanity and humanitarian values). Sure, comics do have some weird side-plot-points and are very explicit (lots of shock value)…. And they ARE mean spirited. But not in a sense you would think. Comic is very mean spirited to consumers of superhero products and superheroes as a whole. It is a mockery of the whole thing. The author of comic does many criticisms of religious and superhuman devotion. It is a very different political message altogether.
20:29 Not very likely. When the truth is revealed about Vought and it's distribution of compound V, we see Noir crying in the hallway at his phone. There's literally no one around him when this happens, so he has zero reason to be putting on any kind of a show. It seems like there's either some sort of switch that gets flipped for him or that he suffers some sort of dissociative disorder, because he literally goes from brutally murdering people to giving a kid a teddy bear within a span of mere seconds.
I mean from the newest episode we know he has brain damage, which is why he’s very childlike except for when he’s murdering people. The training and experience he had for decades still let’s him be a killing machine but this Noir is an actual character with emotions
DID and alot of other mental illnesses can come from physical and mental trauma I think. He probably switches identity when hes brutally murdering people.
The show is pretty different from the comics so it seems they may not go the Black Noir clone route. I mean there still IS a possibility as there are some theories that Black Noir on the show may have died from his 'nut' allergy..lol. If that's the case, then yes, they could still slip in the clone stuff from the comic. But, imo, I think they may go with some kind of Soldier Boy story line in taking out Homelander to subvert the comics. We shall see....
@@Ruzien when his face gets burned in S2E1, you can see he is clearly black. They’re going to have Homelander’s son take the clone arc. How? I don’t know, but his son will be the one to kill him.
Dude eating people should have definitely been number one on this list, like don't get me wrong, the starlight thing is awful too but eating a child is on another planet in terms of evil
Not better. Just different. Comic and show target entirely different social narratives. Comic (under a heavy influence of its creators philosophy, who criticizes human need to worship gods and superhumans/idols) criticizes consumers of superhero genre. TV show leans more heavily towards a socio-economic criticism of immoral monopolistic corporations. Very different purposes, and, hence, very different means.
Hearing The Deep get called a comic relief character is interesting for me, as a relative outsider to the show. I only saw the first few episodes, and just a handful of video clips outside of that, and all I've seen is him menacingly threatening Starlight into providing him a sexual favor.
He tries to redeem himself by becoming christian and joining back in the 7. He ends up sounding corny and stupid, but he does somewhat redeem himself by apologising.
Well, he did kill that family. Among other things, but he became a crying, throwing-up mess everytime because that was not who he is. The sadest part is that John Gillman was the most abused and hurt of the seven and yet he was also a decent human being.
@@drackocampusanolara4899 Homelander did not cry in comics, actually. That was Black Noir crying, because he could not kill Homelander. Black Noir had a habit of wearing Homelander’s suit and reminiscing about his dream (of killing the latter).
I found it funny how this video has a bunch of intermission with starlight getting beaten on the early part. Calm exposition-starlight got punted-calm exposition.
Honestly Homelander being insane just because was something I always hated in the show. In the books, he was an example asshole, but at the very end you couldn't help but sympathize with him seeing as he could have had a basic hero life. In the show he's insane simply because he didn't had a family... Which contradicts his sole desire of being THE Superhero. Homelander didn't care for anything or anyone but himself and his goals. Family was a concept he couldn't care less for.
@@guts9160 That's neither justification nor an argument. Taking a life is the ultimate crime. Taking the life of a baby is even worse than taking the life of an adult. A baby who is killed will never get to live their life or have any of the great experiences involving living. A rape victim may have scars and problems for the rest of their lives and issues like PTSD but they can still enjoy life fully if they choose to. Some rape victims actually appreciate their lives more after surviving rape encounters due to being grateful they we're not murdered. A lot of rape victims find meaning in life by becoming advocates against rape. And I say all this as a victim of molestation. Just because you get sexually assaulted doesn't mean your life has to be a living Hell of suffering the rest of your life.

Can you imagine if they did brought his comic book character from the show. People will stop watching the series. It’s interesting that how’ve they just switch their characters.
I like the series better. It resonates with the reality much better. So I can't wait for the final punchline of the series. The role that was given to Black Noir here is much better than the comic imo. The twist of an evil twin that did everything evil in disguise denies the whole message of The Boys. So I believe the key ideas are fulfilled in the show and are dropped in the comic.
"I always tell people not to celebrate in moments like this. But after all these fucking years, its time to stop attaching to one or two memories. And maybe this piece i scarve from you , this meat piece...is the night you killed Becky" -Butcher before killing Black Noir
i did think it was kind of weird that he sat fetal against a wall and cried when the news about the truth of their powers came out and Compound V was outed.
That is a call-back to the comic, actually. Albeit with very different messages. In comic, Black Noir dresses up as Homelander again (to reminisce about his evil acts) and cries half-naked in the dark corner of the seven hellicarrier. He cries and cries, shouting “why they don’t let me do things that I want”, and A-train overhears the sobbing. Luckily for A-train, Black Noir does not have super-sight and he manages to escape before getting clapped as a witness of his moment of weaknesses.
Homelander is still a bad hero...black noir only did SOME of the atrocities, the worst ones (baby eating, etc.) Homelander still did terrible things that were just one step back from baby eating
@@abaddon130 i mean that was after he snapped due to Black noire right ? That doesnt mean it isnt bad but I wouldnt say hes at fault 100% he was literally mentally tortured and went crazy
i am disappointed that they had this whole thing that was setting up black noir getting revenge on soldier boy but they just decided to kill him off and he had a lot of potential
I hope they develop the Black Noir twist ending the way the comics did, just kill off the latest Black Noir, add silence and dread to the new Black Noir and let him linger in the sidelines until the big finish. On a side-note, the idea that Black Noir was introduced in the comics as a counter to Homelander if he crossed the line, reminded me of the recent Batman comics run where Bats created the robot Failsafe to stop himself/Batman if he/Batman ever crossed the line. Excellent arc from Chip Zdarsky and Jorge Jimenez and Failsafe plays a major role in the current DC Absolute Power event. Failsafe ain't doing anything as dark as Black Noir, but the idea of creating a counter if you lose control is similar.
99% of the reason the show can’t use most of what Ellis wrote is because Ellis wrote a bad story. Sure, some of it is genuinely too graphic for tv but the characters are practically 0 dimensional in the comics. Black Noir being a clone of Homelander was a hot garbage plot twist that ends up making Homelander look like a good guy among the rest of the supes since it wasn’t actually him who did most of the heinous things we were told he did. Don’t get me started on the anti-supe missiles because that sh*t was f*cking stupid.

Becky Butcher describes seeing Noir in Homelander’s suit as flying in her diary
I'd like to think Homelander was already unstable and dangerous; but with the stuff black noir was doing, just made Homelander worse
Not true at all.
Homelander was not unstable in comics. He even admits it to himself that “having a second evil persona inside my head is silly”
In show, Homelander is full on split-personality dissociative condition mode.
Not unstable or massively dangerous but yes even before Black Noir he clearly isn't a good person in comics considering what happened with Starlight
I would propably put it like this comic Black Noir>> show Homelander>>>>> comic Homelander (before he got driven mad by Black No)
I like how Black Noir straight said F**k this shit I’m out, without actually saying it.
Savagely cutting out his tracking chip and politely handing it off to a Vought employee lmao. Love him
So show vs comics is basically “you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain “.
This is the one series where I don't mind the large changes from the comics. Although the source material is fantastic, I feel like the writing that went into the show is good enough to stand on their own. The first time I felt like both versions stand on their own. Now I do think the comics should get an animated version too.
I think the diabolical episode adapted fron the comics was really good and i also hope they end up doing an animated comic version
if they animate it i hope anthony star plays homelander again, his voice just rings with the role
What network is gonna air it lmao
Black Noir eating that baby is one of the most messed up things I have ever seen in a comic
Black noir in the show hasn't been that bad so far for me idk y but I feel like he's better especially after season 3
Well, we don't know much about BN yet. All we know is HIS perspective of how things happened. He is an unreliable narrator. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a Black Noir twist in the series after all. Thought of course not the one with Homelander's clone, but something else.
@@Sanderus Yea anything couldve actually happened and black noir may still be the bad guy, but I doubt it. Seems like black noir is gonna fight sb
My brother finally had read the comics and he was shocked but he loves the fact he can now reference the comic to the show. Sorta caused him to be smug in a way.
Smug brotha
Same thing with people who've read the Game of Thrones books, they get a lil smug. I've got nothing against it in of itself tbh, I love all fans of anything I also enjoy and having a bit of cheeky banter over knowing something others don't can be fine, there's just some who go a bit too far and become obnoxious because of it and spoil the fun of knowing something a fellow fan doesn't.
I am VERY happy they changed black noir in the TV series. Making homelander the true villain is SO much better
I disagree, it adds a bit more to the story to have everything you want to believe be partially false in the end. It's a hell of a reveal, but now what? What's the point of black noir? How are they going to end this series, homelander is simply degenerate scum and has been doing all these acts like we assumed since the beginning? No twist?
Rating workplace sexual abuse to earn a position rated worse than EATING BABIES?? Whoever wrote this episode is messed up
Not sure how any of the stuff after eating babies, is actually worse than eating babies. Tbh I kinda think that should have topped the list.
Fr lol
there’s no way Homelander even compares from show to comic black noir
Black Noir is absolutely far gone
I feel like the list went from worst to least bad (although they were all terrible.) But sexual assault, murder, trying to force a new costume on starlight etc etc does not beat out killing and eating babies. The only thing worse would be kidnapping, sexually assaulting then killing and eating the children which god only knows..
Nah I’d put sexual assault above killing or eating babies, depends on the age tho, cuz the younger they r the less conscious they r of what’s happening, like a 1 year old being ate, wouldn’t experience the same trauma as an adult woman being raped

@@hunterzolomom9480 lol it’s alright.
Honestly I am extremely happy with all the changes the show made. Even as grim as the show is, the. comics are just...mean spirited. (just my opinion)
Like Kingo said, the comic was basically just someone who hated the genre while the show tries to make the characters feel like actual characters
That order tho. Starting with eating babies, ending with being one of the sups and marketing guys forcing starlight to wear revealing sex outfit.
Wow, I never realized how drastically the show differs from its source material. The comics sound like a completely different story.
20:29
Not very likely.

It will be the same route with the clone. They showed black noir as a black guy to throw people off so they can think it won't be the same ending.
@@Ruzien when his face gets burned in S2E1, you can see he is clearly black. They’re going to have Homelander’s son take the clone arc. How? I don’t know, but his son will be the one to kill him.

S3E7 Prove that anything that happen in comic DOESN'T HAPPEN in the tv shows, everything done differently and it does WAY better job than the comics.

I think you got some messed up priorities if you think rape is worse than eating babies.
The babies die not knowing what the f just happen, rape victims had to deal with that all their lives

Excellent arc from Chip Zdarsky and Jorge Jimenez and Failsafe plays a major role in the current DC Absolute Power event.
