Make sure it's something you actually like (and reallyyyy like) because you're going to be right A LOT about that topic. People can tell when it's coming from someone who is genuinely passionate about the topic!!

I've been thinking about starting a blog on a topic that I'm very knowledgeable about, experienced in (most of my life doing it), passionate about, even talented in, but honestly...I'm not obsessed with it. It's actually my main hobby, but I only engage in it every other week or so.

I've been struggling with this and after Bluehost screwed up my website and me having to go to another platform has made me think about my blogging niche again. So I was doing Life, parenting, relationships, and family. Now since I've revisited the topics I've changed to Parenting, Relationships, Quick Meals Under 30 mins, and Self Care.

I completely disagree that you have to know a lot about your blogging niche. Yes you have to be passionate but not some kind of expert. I have a blog on personal growth. For me personal growth is a journey and I am myself learning about it everyday so Im taking my readers along on the ride. I think that’s why people who blog about blogging with no prior experience are the best kind of people to learn from. They take their readers on a realistic journey of what it takes and I prefer them than those who do headlines like ‘how i made 1000 in my first month blogging’ . As long as you love the topic and take care to research it then you’re gold ✌🏻😅

Like if your blog is on home decor, can you write off things you buy to write posts or if your writing a blog post on traveling to a specific destination can you write any of that off? Just a thought. Maybe it’s too complicated. Just thought i’d ask.
Hi! I like your idea and your question, but my guess is that she won't be doing a tax-related video like what you want, unless she also happens to be a Tax Preparer, CPA, Attorney, etc. There are some good books on the subject, and one that I learned a lot from is called Incorporate and Grow Rich. I hired one of the authors of that book to help me structure and set up my business awhile back. People who aren't licensed to offer tax advice should never do so. Have a consultation with your tax preparer or, if you do your own taxes, find a tax professional who can answer these questions and guide you through the best actions for your unique situation.
Something I wish I had known about fashion is how obnoxious it is to constantly have to update posts - because stores seldom keep the same item in stock 🤦🏻♀️ Example: I’ll write a post and then have to keep updating it as items get sold out.
It’s a lot more upkeep + updates. I love my niche, and something to think about for potential fashion bloggers.
I have too many interests and want to write about all of them. From parenting to zero waste to minimalism to decluttering to saving and making money and to fitness and running lol is it better to make separate blogs for each thing rather than one blog for everything?
I've been asking myself a similar question. My answer turned out to be that I haven't got the time or energy to devote to multiple blogs and/or TH-cam channels, so instead, I will have categories for my blog posts and playlists for my TH-cam videos. I believe that I'll be best able to manage my wide-ranging content that way. And, since I am my 'brand' those who find me for one topic might decide they enjoy my other content too. Good luck to you in your creative efforts!

Sorry…basic question here. How does a blog even make money? Do people have to subscribe to your blog? I have a great idea and have been writing/journaling about it for over a year and a friend mentioned blogging. However I don’t really understand the concept of blogging and how you can earn an income from it?

A lot of this “passion project” niching is nonsense. Nothing lasts forever, including our interests. In style, trends change. In parenting, your kid grows up. This idea that we are so passionate about a single topic that it can sustain a blog for years is unrealistic.
I agree with this. I have a lifestyle blog with 3 content pillars. But I've been hesitant to continue with it because it's not too "niched" down.
