    Oh my god, this one is absolutly amazing.
    The dancer was trying to perform a male, actually a typical ancient Chinese romantic calligraphist(which in those days were very man kind thing).
    Her movements interpret a Calligraphist or painter or poet so well(according to Chinese ancient culture, they usually good at all these things) .

    I just think the opposite... by 丹青, the dance is trying to depict a 少年书生 (I kinda linking this image to 羽扇纶巾,谈笑间、樯橹灰飞烟灭), 王亚彬's version is softer, her facial expression more feminine, not really matching the image that the dance is trying to depict. But 亚童 here has shown a confident and ambitious youth image.

    确实有这种感觉,但由于这个舞的主题是扇舞丹青,丹青还是用柔软多变的舞扇来表达才是最恰当的。

      This version is the original version, she performed this dance in the competition 4 years before the other more famous dancer Wang competed, both studied in Beijing Dance Academy trained under the same teacher, Wang's version definitely made quite a few tweaking.

    Actually an ancient piece of classical music roughly translated into High Mountain Flowing Water. Within the piece, the depictions (of mountain/water) were supposed to echo and mirror one-another.

    I like Wang Yabin's version of this dance much better. She dances it with much more grace, technique, and heart. When she does this dance, it seems like she puts in 150% of effort. The dance just comes alive when she does it, and she does it with so much feeling. When Zou dances it, it seems like she's just doing the movements. Sometimes it even seems like she's trying to get the dance over with.

  • @nimimi1
    @nimimi1 16 ปีที่แล้ว

    the reason wang yabin's looks better is because she has a much better personality
    even though she is not the best
    that is why everyone likes her =P

    Personally I prefer Wang's version. This dancer may have better flexibility, but considering the theme of the dance, I think Wang's interpretation, or say her "silhouette" fits better here. Another reason, I always like Yan style in calligraphy more than Liu style.

    On Wang being emaciated, if you understand how much training and conditioning and discipline is involved with dancing, then you would know that she wouldn't need to starve herself in any way to have the figure and the muscles that she has.

  • @crystalsky1227

    @marychildlearning sorry this comes late... But the music is called "Gao Shan Liu Shui", or literally, "High Mountains and Flowing Water". This piece is played by guqin, an instrument with thousands of history. This particular piece is one of the ten Chinese classic.

    • @helennyc4388
      @helennyc4388 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it's not played on the guqin but the guzheng, a different instrument

  • @GnomaticReverie
    @GnomaticReverie  17 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I disagree. Both versions are about the same length. This dancer has superior flexibility than Wang, but I could barely watch her dance when I first got it because she looked so emaciated. In my opinion the ending (the last 20 seconds or so) is much better than Wang's later version.

    中国的舞、乐、书、画,几乎所有的艺术门类都离不开一个‘韵’字,我想这是源自于中文是一种单音节的语言吧,不重在复杂的节奏,而重于意味婉转悠长。所以我一直都很怀疑外国人是否真的懂中国的艺术。

    • @Amphitera

      其实,这些 "中国的舞" 包括很多芭蕾的动作,而不是真古代中国舞。好像不只是外人不懂中国的艺术...

      动作和身韵并非同一件事情,就像在西洋乐器上也可以演奏中国韵味的音乐,没人会认为小提琴演奏的梁祝是西方音乐,即使是唐代的舞乐,也有浓浓的胡风。

    the mistake is at 4:40, otherwise its all good right? did she won anything? probably not bc of that mistake. i love her style, she has a body that is more of martial art than a dancer, i wouldn't be suprise if she knows martial arts

  • @ariesreverie
    @ariesreverie 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    This dancer has more flexibility, but overall I'd still prefer watching Wang, who is a lot more in sync with the dance itself. I can tell Zou is trying in this dance, which is good, but Wang's version appear so effortless which is better.

    Wang's a around one minute longer than this, thus kindda dragging... but either way, Wang is more matured though emotionally and technically.

    事实上动作非常的男性化,照着古代浪漫的书生路线去的

    None from the current generation of dancers. I think there is now an over-emphasis on thinness as fundamental gauge of a dancer.
    If you read my comment above carefully, it would be clear that I was referring to Zou as "emaciated". Her thinness lends an aura of other-worldliness to the dance, at the expense of power and control. Wang's dances with more abandon. Her demi-pointe turns are fantastic, but I stand by my contention that Zou has superior extension and flexibility.

    I especially don't like the ending. If you have ever seen Wang's, it is amazing. Zou's ending has no special significance to it, and still doesn't show any exceptional skill. I think Wang is the only one, out of the half dozen who have done 扇舞丹青 for various 桃李杯s, who dances it with grace and up to par.

  • @youyouooxx
    @youyouooxx 17 ปีที่แล้ว

    well, honestly, name me one accomplished classical chinese dancer from China who is not quote on quote emaciated. If you consider Wang's look as emaciated then i have no comments for this dancer. Besides, the ending has to do w/ choreography and has nothing to do w/ the dancer. And i was comparing the dancers from the beginning to the end.

  • @pinkypocky
    @pinkypocky 16 ปีที่แล้ว

    When the dance speeds up, Zou has no movements that are unique or that fit in with the music. Dances are supposed to have both fast and slow parts, but for Zou it seems like the whole dance is filled with slow movements. She has no stamina, her movements are very basic, and she has no feeling. On Zou's "superior extension and flexibility," Zou can only keep her leg up for a second before she releases, but Wang clearly shows the intense training and work she put into this dance.
