    I asked, and i was refused a raise even tho people under me were making more. So i quit the day after i asked.

    I give a lot advice to women on how to get over their fear or lack of self worth. Some of the finest, most dedicated employees I've ever had were women who always put themselves down. Build yourself up and sell yourself! If you dont, nobody else will.

    extra tips, don't wait until you are 45 years of age to have the chutzpah to ask for a raise when you've been in the company for 15 years and had only relied on yearly micro raise. My mother did this last decade.
    And, ladies ask for a salary raise when you've been on maternity once or twice in recent times and you've only been back for 3 months at your own perils. The rebuttal will be swift and brutal and could even be followed with mockery. Be smart about this , time and timing are crazy important.
    and keep track of the glowing reviews of other managers, when those are in writing but more importantly compare your current salary with that of a new employee online because chances are if you've been in the company for sometime you haven't noticed that the same job offered at the same company has a starting salary that's even superior to the one you are earning at the present time. If proven right, you can effectively demand for the salary to be adjusted accordingly but insist on keeping your bonus.

      @@avapilsen no its not. you have to justify your raise. and then also bear the rise of workload because you are making more. on the flip side at a new job, same or less workload and you are automatically paid market rates. most bosses will never adjust salary to market rates.

    The bottom line is you should have another job ready before ask for a raise. So you'll be able to walk away- which is the strongest negotiate position.

    As a guy with ASD, I often have hardships in many social situations. I always thought I was underpaid in the software engineering field, but I’ve never asked for a raise ever. I really appreciate this video because it definitely gave me the confidence to speak to my boss about it.
    I also just watched Barbara Corcoran’s tips on asking for raises. Super thankful for the ladies who give these awesome career advices. Let’s all push for better pay so everyone is able to feel equally valued 😃

    I’m getting a dry promotion on Monday and really wanna push for a salary raise so that I get compensated for all of the additional work that I am being given. I know the number I want, the number I currently have, and the number they’ll most likely try to pay me. Talking about a wage gap 😂 I’m not confident but I’ll really come prepared

    I talked about why i need it because any argument I could have about deservedness was quashed by them stating all my value and then labeling it with a number i found too low.

    We definitely gotta support each other.
    When I managed people, women did ask for raises. I still said no sometimes but there wasn't any harm in asking. However, by asking, even if the answer is no, I at least knew it was important to them and can make introductions or allocate future equity increases.

    The pay disparity is a bit more complicated than a blanket statement that women make $5B less vs. men. There are countless factors at play.
    However, I do agree women need to improve their confidence in the workplace...they are just as good and many times better than the boys at their job.
    Also, plenty of nonconfident men out there struggling for a raise or promotion...this is really for all people.

    Look for a new job and ask a higher salary is the best way to increase your salary fast. most people have the bad habit of being scared and not feeling comfortable changing workspace.

    I've got a meeting with my manager in a months time, I sat down with him yesterday to say:
    "I wanna go from here to here, when we sit down in a month I'm going to need a clear set of goals and objectives for the following six month that I can hit in order to show I can do it"
    Basically if you not promoting me in a months time, we need an agreed set of targets that you need me to hit. If in another six months if I hit them and still don't give it to me, then I still got a list of achievements I can tell another employer in a job interview.

    Women shouldn’t have to ask for a raise. It should be automatic that the salary is honest, decent, clearly above the “living wage” and appropriate. The problem is not on them. It’s on the system that tried to pay the least (“market price”), and makes us work the hardest legally possible.

      mattemo. Why only women? Well I used to think like that too. I understand where you’re coming from. It should be for everyone, women, men, minority, disabled, and others who are not treated fairly. The focus is on women because this video is saying women need to stand up. And universally and historically, women are the largest group who are subjugated concerning this topic/situation of fairness in labor and society. Ya tradition. Why are they the biggest? Because women amount to 50% of the global population - almost in every nation.

I would argue the ancient chinese treated women as equals (yes disney mulan is wrong) as well as many african and pacific ocean tribes. But i get your meaning is europeans. In regaurds to europe i would argue women were treated equally in the druids and even vikings. Just not under the romans or societies that spawned from the dark ages.
      I would have ro say it should be all because i would say atleast 30% of men also dont speak up for justified raises. I know i dont because i get too nervous and am an introvert.

      mattemo. Ya some societies are more fair and some really respect women. I think of the Etruscans, Basques, matriarchal societies, and other indigenous communities as well. But in actual pay compensations, it’s been documented that it’s clearly lob sided.

I dont think the people who do the data facter in overtime hours that men put in more or maternity leave that women take which skews the numbers some but over all i agree thier is a descrepency because as a whole women dont ask for more. I jist dont belive it is nearly so wide because they dont take in said factors. They also group all jobs together and divide it. Which is a disservice and skews the numbers too. Since trades make alot and traditionally women after the dark ages dont want to be a pipe fitter or other trade. Even when they make a ton.

    May not be applicable to Indian market, In India, sadly, nothing happens unless you put down the papers! Period! So if you are confident, speak with your manager first, then wait for their response, if no, apply , get offer and put down the paper, and switch! Any other opinions are welcome!

    My manager agreed to a raise and then when it was finalized black on white he only raised my salary by half to what we agreed to! So i did not sign and mentioned our agreed amount which he denied to HR. Currently i'm sick and not in a state to change jobs but till this day i have not forgiven him or can even look him in the eye and take him serious.

    May I chime in?
    Create a cool PowerPoint presentation then ask to speak to bosslady for an hour meeting. In this presentation, list your duties when you started compared to now, then list reasons why you deserve it, then list how much money youve saved the company, then ask for the $ you're hoping for.
    Trust me! Your bosslady will be impressed that you even created a PowerPoint for it. Get creative & show your skills all with pop-up text and cool bubbles!

    I search for How to as for a raise and the first thing I hear is "Women aren't earning what they deserve".
    So now I have to add Man to every google search?
    God!! I hate how everything is a gender issue now.

      No. Always ask, just make sure you "ask" and not demand. Make it easy for them to share their salary (in a private setting like lunch)

    I hate how there's this unspoken rule of an _employee_ having to be the one to ask for a payrise.
    Like, isn't it obvious that everyone needs pay rises? Even if it's just to keep up with inflation so you don't suffer so much.

    Why does it have to be about men or women? It should be about people. Also in my personal experience, most women I have worked with, have been vocal and direct, more than men. I think you are underestimating women.

    Okay this is gone sound weird but why is this only about women I searched cause I wanted some information about how i can get a raise in pay and this showed up. Don't get it twisted but I feel like they should change the title

      Where I’m from they’re not legally allowed to keep employees from sharing their salary. Idk if that’s just California.

    Asking for a raise is always more polite and professional imo. If u tell your boss u need one u may come off as demanding and rude and then u definitely won't get one. Your boss or how ever many bosses u have men/woman always remember the hard work u do for them but they also always remember the negative behavior u have towards them which eventually leads to signs of negative behavior from them towards u.

    Pay gap is a myth so is the notion that women are timid deers to shy to open up their mouth. When you are patronizing women as if they have no clue it is you that is prejudist against women.
    Btw: i m very skeptical aboutnthose asking for a raise advices, instead switching jobs and asking for an adequate salary then every now and again is far easier in my experience
