I don't really believe Light when he says he wasn't hesitating because of the friend thing lol He's not even looking at Ryuk when he talks about how the friendship is just a facade/a mind game between them. And nobody knows that Kira can kill through means other than heart attack so all he had to do was tell Rem to make L's death an accident and the police would have no actual reason to even think it was Kira. I'm sure Light knows that they can't be friends because after all, if he lets his guard down then L will catch him and Light will get executed (and Light's own life and his ideal world come first before anything), but there's definitely a part of him that felt the need to give L's death more thought and was so shocked to hear Rem could kill him just like that because of some sort of respect for L as a rival. And I don't think he wants the game to end, it makes his life way more interesting
