Build a skid mount firefighting pump using an IBC container with a Honda WH15X pump for under $1000

  • Simple instructions for building a fire rig that can be quickly hand loaded into a truck. What makes this design better than other options out there is that it can be built with basic tools and doesn’t require welding, or advanced skills. This is a great utility for wildland fires because it is easy to get in and out of tight roads and difficult areas. This also works great for watering down roads as you will see in the video, simply attach the fire nozzles to the end of the pump and drive as it sprays. This is great for dust control or when preparing to grade the road. This is also very handy for road and soil compaction.
    Attention: we do not endorse firefighting without proper fire training and safety equipment. We advise people to put baffles in the IBC container to keep water from sloshing, link ➡️( • How To Make Baffles Fo... ) failure to do so could cause a vehicle to roll over or have trouble stopping. Firefighting could result in injury or death.

    I’m building one right now to go in my F-350 service truck. I snagged a used Honda wb20xt 2” pump from a pawn shop for $150 with 1.5” camlock stuff already on it that I can reconfigure for wildland hose hookups. I have a good steel reel with 3/4” heavy duty agricultural hose on it already (leftover from a previous landscaping project) that I will mount on the skid. I can get a clean IBC for $100 in the next town over.
    I love everything about this idea, except gluing the pump fittings solid like that. It seems like it would make future pump maintenance/repair a huge pain, and risk damage from vibration. I got a piece of 700 psi rated 2” ID reinforced acrylic hose that I’ll put a short section (6” or so) inline with the pump intake to eliminate this issue.
    Thank you for making the video!

    Im not trying to rain on your parade but I wouldn't trust pvc fittings in a pinch.They could crack and there goes your water pressure.Aluminum ,or steel fittings would be my preference..and of course they could crack also on rough logging roads.For home use its a good setup.

    Where’d you source the national pipe to national hose adapter?
    Cool video. I recommend a tank to pump recirculation valve those in case pump is left running but not flowing so you won’t smoke your pump.

    Solid rig- only thing that I would like to see is a way to use the mounted pump to be able to draft and refill the tote

    Thanks for this encouragement. I've looked at the QTAC fire skids which are around $5000 or more. I'd sure like to find a way to haul this on my sub-compact tractor with the tank on the back 3 point hitch and the pump and hose on the front loader (to balance out all the weight). Don't have a truck or side by side 4X4 so the tractor is it. Any suggestions are appreciated.

      @@CircoInnovationsInc I just purchased a 275 gallon IBC water tote for $50 - delivered. Looking now at pumps. I have been recommended to look at the Champion 2 inch semi trash pumps. Good quality and not too pricey. On Amazon for about $254.63 www.amazon.com/Champion-2-Inch-Gas-Powered-Semi-Trash-Transfer/dp/B00C2VF7K8?pd_rd_w=5waJD&pf_rd_p=43ea9b7e-4160-4f68-b311-3810df065596&pf_rd_r=MWCVCFQPBE8XP5DGV3TT&pd_rd_r=7463a297-afe9-49ba-b93b-fc30b7dc57de&pd_rd_wg=2icJT

    Great job but you should mention in your video that this set up has no provision within the pump to bypass the water should you decide to momentarily stop the water flow.
    The pump will be easily damaged with any restrictions in the line such as a shutoff

      50 to 60 feet. But that can be changed by the type of nozzle you use.

    No way to draft from a water source ???????

    • @CircoInnovationsInc
      @CircoInnovationsInc  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The pump is made to be removed easily, moved to the water source and then the water can be pumped back into the tank with a discharge hose. We set up our suction hose so it can attach to the cam-lock on the intake of the pump.
