Chris Slade is awesome! He killed it live at Donington '91!
A very nice gentleman. Met him on the Razor's Edge tour when I was drumming for a local band and he is just like you see here. He and Brian Johnson are two of the finest gentlemen in rock.
For me, Phil Rudd will always be the number one drummer for ACDC, however he's not always "available". Therefore in my opinion, Chris Slade is the only other guy for the job. The way I see it, ACDC have two drummers - number one is Phil Rudd but when he's not available (due to booze, threatening to kill people, whatever) Chris Slade is the man! Two GREAT drummers!!!
How about Wright? I know he isn’t the greatest but he did a damn good job in the 80’s
The way I compare them Phil sounds better on the albums and Chris sounds better live.
For me, Chris Slade will always be the number one drummer for ACDC.
Chris Slade is more reliable, I'd rather just have him to be honest. Phil has been a mess over the years.

Phil, Chris, Simon they're all great in my opinion they all have different styles... Phil is THE AC/DC drummer but Chris' drumming on live in donginton is just amazing and Simon's drum work on Blow Up Your Video is brilliant!

People like to slam on Rudd because they all think that faster = more skill. It's actually a lot harder to play slowly with proper dynamics than it is to just blast through a piece at high volume and speed regardless of what instrument you play. There is absolutely nothing simple about Rudds drumming whatsoever aside from the beat itself. Every nuance and accent is placed just perfectly each and every time. From the swing in his beat to the seemingly lazy way he runs his high hat it's all simply genius. He makes most perfectionists look bad. Like Brian Johnsons says Phil Rudd is a machine!

Slade is the lightning bold in AC/DC! He makes AC/DC faster heavier louder, without him Thunderstruck and many many other songs wouldn't be as good as they are played live! Just listen or watch AC/DC live in Donington, amazing!
Jake, exactly he makes them faster, most songs with him playing just dont feel right and are missing the Rudd swing. Louder, thats not really up to him so your wrong there, and heavier, drummers alone dont make a band heavy.
Slade is a good drummer but he is just a fill in, a gun for hire.

You're absolutely correct......Slade wouldn't understand groove if it jumped up and punched him in the face.
I think Thunderstruck sounds better live with Phil. Although Chris is the one on the album.

Jake, you couldn’t be more wrong. The bolt in AC/DC is Bon Scott... he said that himself. The only drummer for AC/DC is Phil Rudd.. Malcolm said that. End of it.
AC/DC has been the masters of replacement when one person is gone there fill in has always been the best. Bon passed and they found Brian took them to another level. When Brian was done for a while Axel was a great fill in. When Phill left Simon and Chris did great. God Bless Malcolm when he passes Stevie barely skipped a beat “ no pun intended “ damn this band is amazing.

Rudd's best quality is his impeccable sense of time . He's a damn good drummer. But Slade is power personified onstage. I saw him with Jimmy Page and the Firm ,and he was locked in with Page's rythym just like Bonham

YOU CANT STAY IN A BAND IF YOU GET BORED WITH IT , THAT ISNT GOOD FOR THE BAND AND THIER REPUTATION.
STAY CLEAN AND SOBER AND AND ITS MUCH MORE ENJOYABLE. THEY RUIN IT FOR THEIR SELVES WHEN WHEN THEY GIVE INTO WEAKNESS AND NOT FOCUS ON THE MUSIC

I was a fan of Chris's playing with Manfred Mann's Earth Band. He drummed on some of the band's great albums - Solar Fire, Nightingales and Bombers, and The Roaring Silence. He is a much more versatile drummer with a ton more chops than he lets on with ACDC.

Chris Slade is a Rock drummer. Phil Rudd swings - it’s very subtle but it makes all the difference.
IMO. Phil had the soul and groove to fit Bonn Scott's grungy style. Chris fits the punch in the face voice and style of Brian Johnson. Both men have been right where they are supposed to be.
Bring back Rudd The master of time, and feel.
However since ACDC joined the circus 'Freddy Kruger's' an ideal fit. Rock is dead they say, long live rock!

No-one would like to see phil back more than me but it's not like he wasn't given every chance for this tour, it all started when he failed to turn up for the photo shoot for the rock or bust album then just got worse from there.
Chris is a class act and an excellent drummer and suited being in AC/DC and he kept the songs pretty close to Phil's versions. I'm not really interested in going to see them now without Phil or Cliff or Chris sorry!
Phil Rudd knows how to swing Rock and Roll, not just throw out some loud racing ahead of the guitarist Rock beat.
Chris Slade has no feel, no swing, all rushed notes that sound monotone, and desperate for to breath. no flow
and uses way too many fill notes in Rudd's feel established songs he help create.
Razors edge is Slades best contribution, thunderstruck is just a remake of shot down in flames riff. fire you guns=

She got you by the balls-reverse slowed down riff of Nervous Shake Down.This whole album lacks creativity.
Fans were bamboozled by a BS project and thought AC/DC had turned a badass corner with Slade drumming.
Malcolm realized early on that Slade was not the swinging pocket fill drummer Rudd was. check out his personal
opinion in an interview. Rudd was and always will be what set the true rhythm and AC/DC feel.
Rudd, like Bon, has a nasty addiction to opiates. and can still make a better controlled sound on the drums.

Phil Rudd didn't play on the first Ac/dc album. He's not the original drummer.

Speaking as a drummer myself and life long Acca Dacca Fan , Chris is a Great drummer but he does not do this band justice, he does NOT have the Groove for AC/DC (Technically his 8th Notes are not Accented Like Phil) he sounds like a drum machine.

Phil Rudd is an institution of ac dc, original member. He is among rock experts known for his simple recognazible drum style, which gives ac dc title of best rhthym section in rnr business. BUT Chris Slade give an ac dc drum style the SHOWMAN flavor, big time! He is giving an extra charm in ac dc style with the same energy as ac dc frontmans bon and brian - you can't stop looking this frontmans singing or angus jumping. Phil recorded all major ac dc albums, he stays ac dc institution and legend, but when it comes to the live gigs I would prefer Chris!

Chris was and at times still is a great trainer 92-mid 95 on occasion, 95-00 nearly if not one a weekend ever weekend wasn’t around in 00-01 for some reason what was happening that year and upon return the decision was made that ad was to no longer train the way ad had trained between 92-01 was a great relief some of the audience wanted ad to be a homosexual which the core of the supporters were and are not cool with nor is ad, it’s obvious to anyone that is observant that Chris is there just in case/Phil needs a rest did so in 1990 and again in 2014 for someone that trained as a 🎤👈🏻 in front of Chris, 1990 stuff was highly motivational, 2014 stuff 🤦♂️ well I guess ready or not got to step up and hit Sixers/home runs regularly soon

mark mcinerney have a listen to Rudd’s drumming on the For Those About To Rock album the feel is perfect he has a far more of swing to his playing.

Chris Slade IS NOT A GREAT DRUMMER!! Not even close. He is an average (at best) rock drummer. Extremely basic, unoriginal, non-rudimentary, weak technique and fundamentals, his solos are fucking brutal (I'd rather eat my own face than sit through one of his solos), no creativity, I could go on but I don't think I need to.
Even "average rock drummer" is giving Chris a little extra credit. Now, pretty much any novice drummer (with a good natural meter) who's been playing regularly for about 2 months (give or take a month) learn AC/DC's catalog, join the band and tour with a fair amount of ease. It definitely doesn't take a seasoned session drummer to play any drum track from any song from any album. It's the most basic form of 4/4 and 2/4 rock with little to no chops (even the chops or just some flams and single strokes) so the gig was perfect for Chris because that's the absolute limit of his talent.
When you put the words "great" and "drummer" in the same sentence, drummers like Gergo Borlai, Benny Greb, Chris Coleman, Felix Lehrmann etc come to mind. Even in the rock world, Danny Carey, Tim Alexander, John Bonham etc come to mind.
Chris Slade performs and sounds like a fucking novice at best.
