You should do a series on great character actors of the past... Strother Martin, etc........... and here is a GREAT idea... how about a couple videos that show the very first movie appearances of actors that became HUGE... like Jeff Goldblum in Death Wish, Tom Cruise in The Outsiders, etc etc...
You are right... I can't remember the last movie made in Hollywood, I cried about...that was a underdog Swedish movie on Amazon prime that year... Its all about comic heroes... Cusack is great at idealistic, upbeat, dark humor. Many lead actors dominate the screen. Cusack doesn't need to blot out the scenery because his expressions are intricate and draw the eye. He manages to withstand the hard situations with pluck, and win in the end, by patience and wit. That does not get old. His kind of character would be great in a film about Today's fascist mess because he wouldn't fit in. He is good at drama, comedy, and action. I know he will make more blockbusters, and Hollywood will wear its names on its sleeves as part of its charms.
I love Cusack even more since he gave Hollywood the middle finger. That town is a hot mess and everyone knows it. Furthermore, his political activism is on point and inspiring.
Its true that Hollywood has changed. Now that they have fought him back. And by making sure he doesn't make it they made his film scores under 5% Rotten Tomatoes by paying them film critics to make sure he does not come back.
He was and always will be a breath of fresh air in a manufactured Ken-doll like sea of hollywood leading men. He adds substance and meaning to his roles.
Love you fan, thanks for your wonderful support and encouragement towards me I really appreciate it, feel free to drop a message on Skype I will be glad to receive you. John cusack
John Cusack is an eternal talent. Simply because he chooses his roles carefully certainly doesn't make this actor a hasbeen. His body of work speaks for itself, as well as his honesty in interviews.
kate davenporty But he's far from a saint himself. He grew in an Evanston mansion and several of my friends (male and female) knew him all through school. They had nothing but horrible things to say about him, and I believe them (but won't repeat their claims.) Met him once at a Chicago party - his arrogance was off the charts, and he treated women like sh*t. Best friends with Jeremy Piven, long described as a total jerk / sexual harasser, including a brand new case that emerged yesterday. But everyone - without exception - loved his sister Joan Cusack.
I saw John being interviewed at a live event in 2012(with an audience Q&A that I took part in). He said that he was willing to take on more challenging roles and didn't want to be tied solely to his Lloyd Dobler("Say Anything")character. I'd think he had an idea that there could be consequences before he remarked about Hollywood. What I admire about John is that if he makes a statement/opinion, he provides clear examples to back it up. Now that he's starring on "Utopia," hopefully people will admire John's versatility as an actor.
I don't believe he's not being "hired." I think he's branched out & does a LOT of things. He's super wealthy and can do whatever he wants. He has a lot of interests, and has other talents. He's still an actor, too, though. I'm sure he'd be hired in a flash if he were interested in appearing in something.
Honeycombe88 If you don't go along with the DEGENERATE LIBTARD AGENDA in Hollywood OFTEN they find themselves on the outside looking in, however in his case... he's been in some great movies and has always been likeable with Fan's, to date... I don't recall any PR disasters..... seems like one of the few !!!! Good GUY'S..... Also has been working since a young age, which would probably put him in position to be able to invest in particular MOVIES that suited him, another word's... he doesn't really have to take what they give him and his ass kissing days are OVER Hopefully... this is Hollywood that were talking about LOL......
He may wealthy, but actors typically want to keep a good name for themselves by appearing in quality films. Cusack...err, hasn't exactly been doing that. It's true, he's being hired, but, for what? Schlock. If he were so incredibly wealthy, he wouldn't have to do shitty movies to stay afloat- even he said he doesn't like most of his movies. Just saying. I like him, so I don't know why his career went the way it did.
Mikey P I totally agree.. rented the movie on a whim back when it came out and I can say for sure that my money wasn't wasted! Excellent character portrayal and an all around interesting and well written biography!
I'm impressed about his passion for free speech. Funny, though, that his love of Obama changed when Obama started messing with the Constitution. He realized that our Constitutional rights were in danger and regretted voting for Obama. He should just write because High Fidelity and Grosse Point Blank were brilliant. We desperately need original movies. Too many are boring remakes.
Wow really?? and all the sheeple hollywood libs acting like he was the second coming and that only Hilary Clinton would do afterwards. He sounds smart because the problem with them Dems is that they know nothing about politics! they just vote Dem no matter what.
John Cusack is my favorite actor. Would love to see him in a big movie again! I saw Brian Wilson's Christmas show a few weeks ago and was thinking of John Cusack on how great he was in Love & Mercy!
I met him at Fan Expo Dallas last year. He was fine in person, not rude or anything, but also seemed a little out of it. I still say he has some good stuff in him, but it's really up to him on whether or not he wants to be a huge star again. I mean hey, his career lasted longer than many other Brat Pack members.
I enjoy John's films, a film does not have to Please the critic to please the public. Critics have been given too much power as to what films are shown in theaters so the public never sees some movies we would enjoy seeing in theaters, Sometimes it has to do with popularity more than what may Please the public. Many movies that make it into theaters seem to be aimed at adolescent audiences or the less intelligent. I would enjoy actually watching a movie in a theater but very few target an audience that has graduated college. I enjoy a good actor/actress of any age, good writing, directing and a whole team but often it seems whoever is making less intelligent films. The population is aging so it would make sense to keep us in the theater crowd. My man friend and I have found movies to be a less reliable date night. John is a hero protecting young actors/actresses as well as freedom of the press. I look forward to his next film and the younger performers that will work within a more creative and professional industry.
Critics are there just for the reason you mentioned- to help weed out the films aimed at the "less intelligent." However, there is a time and a place for any film. They're not necessarily aimed at unintelligent people, but at people who just want some mindless fun to relax their brain. Being a college graduate does not necessarily make one intelligent, to be honest. Just my two cents.
Sometimes I feel like I’m living in a weird parallel universe, and in most of the other universes John Cusack is a top A-Lister. He seems like he just needs one key opportunity to make a huge comeback and remind everyone of how good he is. It’s unjust that after entering “John Cusack” into the TH-cam search bar, this video is one of the top results.
Hello John, saw your video today, happy to see and hear how your doing in your life. I am a friend of yours from many years ago , remember my grandmother s house near U of A , historical area in downtown Tucson. You were a U of A student . I was with my two son's , and worked part time in Tucson Mall . Danced at Bumsteer steak and bar night club . Yes, many years ago. All is well with me . I remember how much we spoke . Glad your core values are intact. Such a blessing stand firm , courageous in your industry. Your a GREAT actor, I really enjoyed your film of Serendipty! One of my favorite you stared in. Best wishes on your career. God bless you. Peace and Joy Susan P. USA Az. 😁♥️🙏🦋🌵
So he tells the truth about Hollywood and now devotes his intellect and energy towards truly progressive political change. Cusack is worthy of one's respect as opposed to criticism for no longer appearing in films. He obviously no longer gives a shit about the mad ways of Tinsel Town but is dedicated to making the world a better place.
He can be comedic, romantic, psychotic, realistic, and whatever other box he is put in. I enjoyed him since sixteen candles. But better of dead is my fav.
Never knew he co-wrote High Fidelity. That's far and away the vest breakup film in existence. Hats off to Mr. Cusak, who despite being an actor forever, and like the video says, being in a bunch of iconic films, he still manages to be underrated.
He has also been critical of the Israeli government and US support for its persecution of Palestinians. He was always one of my favourite actors. Now he’s one of my favorite people, too.
My favourite John Cusack movie is THE SURE THING....there's a scene where he's hitch hiking with Daphne Zuniga, the latter stuffing her shirt to appear pregnant to garner sympathy for a ride. The lady driver who gives them a ride asks what they're naming the baby.....it was from this scene where my wife and I decided to name our son NICK. Great memory for us
Watching him in his 80’s roles and then Grosse Point Blank and High Fidelity, it amazes me how he can make subtly scary characters sympathetic and even somewhat likeable. He’s a wonderful actor and i love how he’s gone his own path.
I've noticed that when an actor bashes their movies, their careers seem to decline. I'm thinking John Cusack, Shia LaBouef, and more recently Rachel Zegler for example.
Hollywood movies are mostly rehashed garbage, though I did like him in The Grifters. That was a rare good Hollywood movie. Indies are so much less formulaic and refreshingly different. I like that he is following his heart, cos that is the only true path.
John Cusack, was and is the most interesting actor, ever. Makes one wonder, doesn't it? We've always had freedom of speech. Now it seems, those who say ANYTHING about HOLLYWOOD, gets snubbed!! I've never seen one movie that I didn't LIKE -- in whatever movie he played in. I believe they're is something WIERD, going on! Call it an over-acting way of thinking -- but, it's just a gut feeling. So far in my life, that gut feeling has never let me down. Good or bad.
J S .. How old are u?? Your JUST now realizing that kind of shit?? Or are u just really really dumb?.. Why do u think people like JFK, and MLK were assassinated? smh
I absolutely agree with Cusack about Hollywood becoming a whorehouse. Hollywood don't make films anymore, they make movies -- big, brainless, superhero blockbusters. When you think about it, books and music have kind of gone the same way. Compare the books, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, and 50 Shades of Grey with the likes of David Copperfield, Treasure Island, Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath and you'll get the picture.
Actually, Harry Potter, and probably Game of Thrones hold up pretty well as books. Different does not = not as good. I do agree with what John Cusack said, however, every book cannot be Grapes of Wrath, and every movie cannot be Citizen Kane...we'd all be extremely bored!
Cell is fucking. Awful. If you want a good Stephen King/Cusack movie, check out 1408 like everybody else is saying here. 1408 was great. You'll never get the time back you spent watching Cell.
It's really cool that he's helping journalists. He should write more movies. The biz needs much better PLOTS. Everything now is too formulaic and dull. I enjoyed Love & Mercy. He rocked that role as Brian Wilson.
He's always been a exceptional actor. When the time is right and when it's on his terms now, luckily, he'll be back to whatever movies he wants to. He's totally right about Hollywood...but that's not the only place to make movies anymore. He'll shine no matter what he does next...
Love you fan, thanks for your wonderful support and encouragement towards me I really appreciate it, feel free to drop a message on Skype I will be glad to receive you. John cusack
I have alot of respect for johns work. And in this video they didn't mention the numbers station and the film 1408. He's underground and he picks his projects .
I discovered this actor since 2012, the movie, not the year. Even though I didn't know he's done two voice roles like in Anastasia and in Igor, the animated movie I did see.
Love you fan, thanks for your wonderful support and encouragement towards me I really appreciate it, feel free to drop a message on Skype I will be glad to receive you. John cusack
I would love to see him in a live performance on Broadway and eat at a restaurant in Manhattan afterward.......any chance?! I think he and his sister Joan were a powerhouse on the movie Martian Child.......LOVED that movie and Say Anything was another one.......too many to list them all.......
Very appropriate since he got his start in 80'S comedies so it was a fond tribute but like the saying goes '' you can't go back home once you've seen pareee!! you figure it out !!
You mentioned some good ones....my personal favorites are 'Bullets Over Broadway', 'Gross Point Blank', 'Identity', 'Runaway Jury', 'Fat Man And Little Boy', 'Road To Wellville', and especially his role in, 'The Paperboy'...
He was criticising Hollywood waayyy before. I remember him bringing up the ageism women experience in Hollywood such a long time ago. Only now are some celebrities speaking up against it but its like easier to jump on that bandwagon, with the whole Weinstein thing etc. He had guts to stand up to that stuff, while most actors couldn't care less.
I've met him and he's a very nice guy but not real talkative. I can see why his star status is dwindling down a bit as he get older but he's still one of the greats
I Really like that John Cusack has made it clear that he knows whats going on and won't just go along with it, but I really like the movies he has been producing and/or directing, NAMELY the terrifying movies he has starred in "1408" and Stephen King's "Cell". Both of these movies are 2 of my recent choices to my movie library. GO JOHN CUSACK.
I remember Cusack saying in the 90s, something like every "Con Air" he does lets him do a "Grosse Pointe Blank," making it very clear that he didn't view all film projects equally and he was totally fine making movies for a paycheck if it allows him to do the projects he really wants.
What other actors would you like to learn about next?
You should do a series on great character actors of the past... Strother Martin, etc........... and here is a GREAT idea... how about a couple videos that show the very first movie appearances of actors that became HUGE... like Jeff Goldblum in Death Wish, Tom Cruise in The Outsiders, etc etc...

Denzel Washington

Yeah they mentioned actors Hollywood won't cast Bruce Lee and he's dead

thats actually true, they make their own plastic model movie stars and place them into big budget pop corn flicks, its like a factory.

so true, seems to be a really great guy

I've never seen one movie that I didn't LIKE -- in whatever movie he played in. I believe they're is something WIERD, going on! Call it an over-acting way of thinking -- but, it's just a gut feeling. So far in my life, that gut feeling has never let me down. Good or bad.
J S .. How old are u?? Your JUST now realizing that kind of shit?? Or are u just really really dumb?.. Why do u think people like JFK, and MLK were assassinated? smh
Maybe that gut feeling is just gas..
"now" they get snubbed lol ur power of observation is incredible
Hey dear thanks for your love and support, ❤how long have you been a fan of mine !!!
OneColdMonkey Thanks good post. I remember the movie, could not recall the name.
Cell was awful, but I think it may be less Cusack's fault and more the way they absolutely butchered the book.
Sorry for being a disagreer... I loved the movie Cell.
Porch Fyre are you sure you're not thinking about THE Cell, the old Jennifer Lopez movie from 2000? That was pretty good.
Dragon Pink Cusack produced it, so he had to have some idea what was going on. :-P
It's really cool that he's helping journalists. He should write more movies. The biz needs much better PLOTS. Everything now is too formulaic and dull. I enjoyed Love & Mercy. He rocked that role as Brian Wilson.
I LOVE JOHN CUSACK...HE'S WONDERFUL. Great actor. I've seen all his movies..I loved him as a teenager, and he got even better.
Hey dear thanks for your love and support ❤, how long have yo been a fan of mine !!!!
He's been in at least two films with Nic Cage, "The Frozen Ground" and "Con Air." Both films deserve a watch, in my opinion.
He should do something on TV, like Fargo or Better Call Saul.
I agree ..
I love him and agree as well
What happened to 'Better Call Saul," anyway?
He's still a good actor and should be in a high quality Cable TV show rather than a 3rd rate VOD Movie. Quality, not quantity.
Chicken Lover In fact he was asked to be Heisenberg in Breaking Bad
He has 4 movies in production, 2 due out this year and 2 more next year (all four as an actor)
He was amazing in "American Beauty".
ElEternoPoetaLuis , he was not in American Beauty
That's right it was Jon Cryer not John Cusack who starred in American Pie.
Nope, not him either...Kevin Spacey
American pie...none of these guys
That's right. I was thinking of American Psycho.
He's always been a exceptional actor. When the time is right and when it's on his terms now, luckily, he'll be back to whatever movies he wants to. He's totally right about Hollywood...but that's not the only place to make movies anymore. He'll shine no matter what he does next...
Cusack is necessary, he's doing great work as an activist etc.
Anyone should see War, INC. and Love and Mercy.
Larry williams

I have enjoyed all of John Cusack’s movies but my two favorites are Serendipity and Frozen Ground. He’s now behind the cameras doing a great job.
Love you fan, thanks for your wonderful support and encouragement towards me I really appreciate it, feel free to drop a message on Skype I will be glad to receive you. John cusack
Hey dear thanks for your love and support, how long have you been a fan of mine !!!
He's multi-talented! And a sound man!
I have alot of respect for johns work. And in this video they didn't mention the numbers station and the film 1408. He's underground and he picks his projects .
He is a great actor. He should do a HBO show as a pet project that he can star in. I'd watch it.
I discovered this actor since 2012, the movie, not the year. Even though I didn't know he's done two voice roles like in Anastasia and in Igor, the animated movie I did see.
Loved all his movies. Great actor
Hey dear, thanks for your love and support ❤, how long have you been a fan of mine !!!
John Cusack's Defense of Julian Assaunge shows that he is a real good guy- A Mensch
He has been my favorite actor since my dad showed me Grosse Pointe Blank back in 2008.
John Cusack is probably one of the only artists I'd like to meet before I die...God bless you are amazing in so many ways !!
Love you fan, thanks for your wonderful support and encouragement towards me I really appreciate it, feel free to drop a message on Skype I will be glad to receive you. John cusack
Hey dear , thanks for your love and support. ❤ how long have you been a fan of mine !!!
" Never Grow Old " coming out in March 2019.....He is doing Very Well for Sure ! I like most of his films
One of my favorite actors! A real actor.
John Cusack is a good actor. He killed it in Say Anything.. 👏👏
He is one of the coolest celebrities.
yass
Alain Bruno uhh... Say Anything was 28 yrs ago
I liked him in Tape Heads.
What do you think of his personality?
Do you guys at looper ever read IMDB before you post?
I loved him in Must Love Dogs. Even when the film sucks his performance is always believable.
But '1408' was awesome!!!
Exactly
I would love to see him in a live performance on Broadway and eat at a restaurant in Manhattan afterward.......any chance?! I think he and his sister Joan were a powerhouse on the movie Martian Child.......LOVED that movie and Say Anything was another one.......too many to list them all.......
I was miserable because I listened to pop music
Will always love John. God bless America
Cusack's career would have been re energized if he would have starred in Hot Tub Time Machine 2. Just saying...
Porch Fyre yes
Porch Fyre doubt it. HTTM 2 sucked!!
Indeed. Just saying, if he was in it, there's a chance the script might have been better/different.
Hot tub time machine 1 was a let down.
Very appropriate since he got his start in 80'S comedies so it was a fond tribute but like the saying goes '' you can't go back home once you've seen pareee!! you figure it out !!
Its unfair how underrated Cusack is. People must forget The Grifters, Con Air, Love & Mercy, Being John Malkovich, Say Anything...
He has been honest about his life path experiences
Hey dear thanks for your love and support ❤, how long have you been a fan of mine !!!!
I've met him and he's a very nice guy but not real talkative. I can see why his star status is dwindling down a bit as he get older but he's still one of the greats
I love John he's a great actor. But he's right about Hollywood . You go John.❤😁😘♥
Hey dear , thanks for your love and support❤ how long have you been a fan of mine !!!!
never tire of him in hot tube time machine
John cusak is brilliant actor shame they don't cast him more.
Hey dear, thanks for your love and support, ❤how long have you been a fan of mine ..
Now i like hime more...
*Him
I grew up watching his movies, he'll always be Lane Meyer to me.
Great video! THANKS!
What a hero. Knew there was a reason why I liked him. Please God, Mother Earth, protect and nurture him.
Hey dear thanks for your love and support ❤, how long have you been a fan of mine ..
Thanks for sharing ...love this man.
I loved him in Pushing Tin, and especially Identities
Identity is one of my all time favorite movies! .....When I was going up the stairs, I met a man that wasn't there...
Pushing Tin is a great title, shows how good it is.
I must have watched Pushing Tin & GPB on VHS 10,000x in college
Is the Cayce movie coming out?
John Cusack is my favorite actor. I will never say he's the best but he is my favorite :)
Same... Along with kevin Bacon
I remember Cusack saying in the 90s, something like every "Con Air" he does lets him do a "Grosse Pointe Blank," making it very clear that he didn't view all film projects equally and he was totally fine making movies for a paycheck if it allows him to do the projects he really wants.
I kinda figured that when he went from a gem like 1408 to a typical action spectacle like 2012 in just 2 years.
