  • This is a demo is for a tall building structure which is subjected to earthquake load and then undergoes PDelta Effect (Non Linear) for which engineer needs to perform the dynamic analysis capturing the Pdelta effect.. .
So we will see how to deal with this in Staad CE.

Good content sir, I think e tabs is better for including p-delta effects, however results are same, but etabs task is easy

How can a non-linear system have fixed natural frequencies?

    • @Torq123

We are not doing the direct integration method to solve the geometric non linear response at every time steps ( for Time History) as in Staad rigorous method like direct integration and FNA is not available but here the program we are using the geometric stiffness method to active the final solution by modifying s the stiffness matrix directly by KG so that the modal analysis can be performed on the modified (K+Kg) matrix . This method gives good result for building like structure undergoing PDelta effect. This method is first proposed by Edward Wilson which was then implemented in many building analysis package like SAP, RAM , Staad etc

@@Torq123 I understand your approach which is what you do to solve non linear static equations but my question was - “can non-linear systems have fixed natural frequencies?”
If not, then there must be some form of approximation required to use any mode superposition method for dynamic analysis, I wanted to understand a bit more of that approximate method.

@@satyajitdey2098 Ok , I got your point now. Yeah As the geometric stiffness varies with the change in geometric shape so the NF will vary for the change in stiffness.
