I like his style !!! Why can't people appreciate both abstract and realistic paintings at the same time? Both styles are great and beautiful in it's own way.
Very true. However, one takes skill the other casuistry. Anyone can copy a Rothko very very very few can copy a Bruegel. Most non talented artists like 'abstraction' because they can do it.
I feel like Still was what Christian’s called “speaking in tongues.” Typically these speakers receive an indecipherable message from God. The speaker has no idea what he/she spoke, and now needs someone to interpret it. And that’s where Jean Michele-Basquiat comes in.
Has anyone ever wondered why all the Clyfford Still museum presentations on TH-cam do not allow comments? Are they afraid that someone will finally say that these are among the most overrated, boring paintings ever produced by any person? Except for maybe Mark Rothko, Lee Krasner or, bite my tongue, Jackson Pollock? No thanks. The number of attendees shown in the videos says it all. Practically zero. Thanks but not thanks.

If in doubt do big, if 'still' in doubt do color. Amazing how this garbage can be heralded as art. Still, Pollack, Newman, Rothko, got through the cracks. That's why Pollack and Rothko killed themselves, they knew it was all a bunch of shit!
@@welcometogoodburgerhomeoft4766 You have never 'felt' anything in your life, who are you kidding! Many people confuse being first and able with being good. Anyone is able and can do a Rothko, Still, not many able to do Kandinsky and much much less a Bruegel. Even Picasso admitted it was a con.
I have to admit that most abstract art does not really work well when photographed or reproduced . For the art to come alive the viewer should be in the presence of the art work to feel anything . But ultimately it is still subjective and one's taste and appreciation of a certain artist may change over time. Rothko once said that the best viewing distance of his work was 18 inches ....not possible from a simple print.
You're grossly misinformed about his talent. Stills moved from realism to abstract expressionism over a period of many years. Your ignorant armchair critique is no more than vacuous drivel .

The art itself is not worth much, but the name of the artist. Look at Leonardo da Vinci, he did paint several wonderful pictures with respect to the admirer. The painter needs to deserve it.
Beautifully articulated by this curator - her tone matched the class of the artwork.

What a gem!
These paintings are not awful. Abstract Expressionism featured some of the greatest 20th century artists: de Kooning, Still, Pollock, etc.
Israeldiegorivera2 Genius2 gonna have to agree to disagree. De Kooning out of all of them was a fantastic painter. Picasso can be redundant imo.

Idiot.
inspiring and dramatic
They definitely are using all the space, nothing extraneous or missed

Dufuses.
One of his early realistic works from the 1930s came onto an episode of Antiques Roadshow. It was valued at $350,000.

Lucky for Sotheby’s they now know where you stand… I’m pretty certain people will care for your opinion less than you care for these paintings.
He did a duplicate for this painting! LOL
If art needs to be explained to grasp its “beauty” it has failed as art

This is no art. These painters did abstract, because they have no idea what to paint. They laugh at us.
