Veronica Cartwright's reaction there at the end was genuine and NOT acting. She was kept out of the loop that he was going to reveal himself as a Pod. It wasn't in the script that she had. So her surprise was real.
It's appropriate that she already watched The Faculty before this, since that movie was basically "Invasion Of The Body Snatchers At A High School." This is also a remake of a classic 50's movie, and not the only one. I think it got remade again like a decade ago.
Whoa! I was surprised you watched this movie! My father took me to see this in the theater when I was just 7. I didn't sleep for years after, and I still have a hard time with it. You summed it up perfectly when you said "They did everything right, there's really no escaping that." The original 1956 version is surprisingly good because the concept is so strong. The original star of the 1956 version ( Kevin McCarthy ) plays a cameo in this version when he bangs on the windshield of the car Sutherland is driving, only to be chased by the mob.
The original was conceived as an allegory to communism, it was subtle red scare propaganda, but unlike a lot of sci-fi from the era, it wasn't silly, it was played straight, a bit dry, but well done.
My dad took me when I was 11 and I was the same way about not wanting to sleep. He took me to see Alien a year later and this scared me way more. You don't have to go to space but you do have to go to sleep.
@@existenceisrelative there is a fan theory that he's actually playing the same guy, who has been trying to stay ahead of the invasion wave and warn people since the first film, like a crazed doomsayer screaming "The end is nigh". it's just fans' headcanon, but god, if that isn't a nice little extra cherry on top.
I was laughing my ass off hearing him laugh at your reaction. That was a classic. It's so funny to see a fresh reaction to an older generation movie. We had more creative freedom back then. Now everything is so PC it's boring.
25:55 It's just Nikki making noises for 20 minutes after being shellshocked. This is what horror used to be back in the good old days. Trauma like you read about.

It's funny that in the movie versions the plants always win. In the book, the hero defeated them and they left the planet (although some were taken to other cities, it seemed).
There needs to be a ridiculous, full-on B-Movie where the Pod People are in the process of invading when suddenly The Thing escapes the arctic and starts doing the same. Then when you think it's as ridiculous as possible, Xenomorphs show up. Why? Who knows, there's always an excuse for xenomorphs! (no predators though. i have them in time out.)
@@existenceisrelative no on the xenomorphs. keep it to classic scifi camp and cheeseball body horror, use The Thing as your mark for acceptibility. you want pod people, the thing, the blob, and then throw in the killer tomatos in the third act for a complete WTF moment.
Veronica Cartwright has been in at least four horror movies that I've seen: Alien, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Birds, and The Witches of Eastwick (kind of horror), and she always has a rough time of it.
THANK YOU for reacting to this! I saw this movie at the young age of 11 and it literally gave me nightmares for weeks afterwards. That ending is BRUTAL, it goes straight to black, end credits, no music, and you're forced to just sit there with that ending and think about what it means...
OMG your reactions give me LIFE!!! This was fabulous! Him laughing at your reactions added to this, too. And your face at the end, you went through all the emotions girl LOL! I watched this many many many years ago and I remember being horrified by Donald Sutherland's face at the end. "This is why I don't like gardening." LMAO!!!
Amazing reaction! It's great you recognize how good it is despite not wanting to see it again. Believe it or not, my wife and I watch this movie often as it's a "comfort movie" for us. Like Alien, Jaws, Jurassic Park, The Hobbit, Tremors, Twister, Dante's Peak...😅
One of those rare times where a remake is as good as the original. The Kevin McCarthy cameo was a nice touch. He played the Donald character in the original movie.
"The dust bunnies are PEOPLE??" 🤣 The best version of "Snatchers" (the original 50s one is good too, but this one's King), but the scariest thing about it were Leonard Nimoy's weird back-of-the-hands-only gloves. I saw the movie when I was 10 when it came out, and the gloves were what I focused on the most, lol.
I just stumbled on your reactions maybe a month ago. Very entertaining with the comments, quips, and one-liners. Keep up the great work! Im sure their is a huge mountain of stuff Nikki could react to.
The reason why the dor had a human head was because David smashed the one pod, leaving only one remaining pod to assimilate two beings... It got confused. Thus dog with a human head. Fun facts: the camera movements for Davis, represent his state of mind. They go from smooth, to swift, to fast, to chaotic and end off *calm.* -The reveal at the end was referenced in "Despicable me 2". This movie is one of the best remakes of all time; along with the THING, the FLY, the BLOB, the Vincent Price "House of WAX" and 'Invaders from MARS". Isn't it funny how the best remakes come from sci-fi and horror?
You gotta watch The Adventures Of Buckaroo Banzai Across The Eighth Dimension! One of the best 80's cult films. Peter Weller, Jeff Goldblum, John Lithgow, Clancy Brown, Ellen Barkin!
This was absolutely hilarious. 23:18 - "The dust bunnies are people!?!?!?!" Now, imagine watching this on broadcast tv at age 9. Yep....and before that was "The Omen" and "The Exorcist".......oh, and there was Star Wars, too. Gen X was where the horror was at.
Of the several versions of "Body Snatchers" this is my favorite. Never looked at Donald Sutherland (RIP) the same after this. He also starred in a similar themed film, "The Puppet Masters (1994)," worth watching and not to be confused with films with more recent films with similar titles.
This movie is a remake of the original 1956 body snatchers film. Kevin McCarthy, the man running in the street trying to warn people was the lead in the original movie.
The whole movie had a sense of foreboding and dread about it. But when I saw the school kids being lead into a building to take a nap that was so messed up. The Body Snatchers are out to replace every human on Earth not just the adults. Our species was being systematically eradicated without a shot being fired.
Yeah, you’re lucky to be watching this as an adult lol. Many of us were traumatized by this movie as children. I think you should react to Willow (1988). I think you’ll love it! ❤
So I watched this for like the third time the other night, after hearing about Donald Sutherland's death and then last night, checked for reactions and this is honestly one of the better ones! I haven't seen anybody else notice that the floof/dustbunnies are the remains of those who have had their bodies snatched and honestly, the two of you are a riot - it's not often you come across genuinely funny reaction channels! Also digging the rapid-fire edits. Instead of sticking around for long stretches of the movie, we just get the parts that the two (three? I thought I saw the doggo checking out the movie) of you enjoyed most. . . . Subscribed, to say the least! Looking forward to future reactions - also, you should check out The Fly sometime, if you haven't seen it yet. 1986, it's another relatively young Jeff Goldblum film (co-starring Geena Davis) directed by David Cronenberg. Another masterpiece of practical effects, Goldblum acting his ass off and just as freaky, if not moreso, as Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
I was a sheltered child. My parents refused to let me see R rated movies. But I begged to see this in the theater alone while they did errands. It's only rated PG. The ending messed up my 9yr old self horribly. For weeks I would leave the lights on and try not to fall asleep.
I know a great movie that would really freak Nikki out! "Fallen" '98 ⭐Denzel Washington w/Donald Sutherland, John Goodman and 😱Elias Koteas. Btw, though he's in the movie for about 3 seconds, the priest on the swing watching Brooke Adams is none other than the great Robert Duvall! And yes, he's still kicking at 93yrs!!!🥳
One of a handful of movies which gave me anxiety as a kid. Still good to watch. May I also suggest the movie The Invasion, from 2007. With Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig.
Attempt 3 at requesting Stardust. A Great Feel good movie that is critically underrated and I am sure you will love. (if you havent seen it already) One of my all time favorite movies and would love to see how you all feel about it.
Excellent "Cover" of this movie. Now I'll have to see the original. Up until a few years ago I thought that this was then original. All I can say is, if this one was this good, then Original should be awesome. Maybe they will avoid the DUST BUNNIES!!! LOL, sorry. But that was funny. And BRAVO to your friend/ helper/not sure who he is for not saying anything until the end. BRAVO! Nice Post. 👍👍
I'd only ever seen the original 1956 movie. As I recall, it was much less freaky and a little cheesier than this version. Now, I need to find the full movie.
This movie is THE best version in my opinion. It's scary, tense, smart, funny, and has great characters. The sound design and "music" is also unique and fantastic.
I remember when this movie came out one reviewer said that in the original movie the pods landed in a small middle American 1950's town. Most of the townsfolk were White conservative middle class and conformist. So when the Pod folks appeared their cold emotionless demeanor made them stand out. But here we are in San Francisco in post Vietnam late 1970's with the ERA and the beginning of LGBT movement. Peoples ideas of what were considered "normal American" behavior was already changing. So people acting a little cold and emotionless wouldn't raise any red flags immediately. Could you imagine what would happen if they showed up today? Our ideas of normal behavior are greatly different today. We probably wouldn't notice for months maybe years until it was too late.
6:37 This is Kevin McCarthy. He was the star of the original 1956 version of invasion of the body snatchers.
5:11 Donald Sutherland cooking in the same sweater he wore in Animal House but with a Karen Allen look-alike. 1978 was wild.
"Are they snatched, or is it just the '70's?" 🤣🤣❤️
Veronica Cartwright's reaction there at the end was genuine and NOT acting. She was kept out of the loop that he was going to reveal himself as a Pod. It wasn't in the script that she had. So her surprise was real.

Not only is the star of the original a cameo, but he's doing the exact thing he was doing at the end of the original movie!
The original was conceived as an allegory to communism, it was subtle red scare propaganda, but unlike a lot of sci-fi from the era, it wasn't silly, it was played straight, a bit dry, but well done.
