Remotely located in the vast French countryside, there is a property that was once called "Le Moulin" - the mill.
And not just any property, it was once home to a French family and comes with an intriguing story and history.
This 2 story house was last occupied 15 years ago and was owned by Mr. Roger and Mrs. Andree.
Mr. Roger served as a soldier back in World War II.
Unbelievable but true - mementos from wartimes, their memories, and other family relics have slowly been sinking into dust during the last decades.
Old documents teach us that Mr. Roger was involved in a shooting accident during a war battle during the war, for which he eventually received compensation from the French state. Luckily, he survived, but did not remain unscathed - the man became disabled but ultimately, the couple gratefully found all their peace in their manor in the middle of the meadows.
This is how they lived up to a quiet retirement, while they made bread in an artisanal way in their own mill, which they sold to the villagers in the region, and worked towards their peaceful old age when they eventually both left this planet.
During the long stretch of desolation, hardly anyone, besides some vermin, has entered this property - making it a true time capsule of wartime. Today I take you on a tour through their lives as I explore their former house in search for answers.

Regarding the identifications on the frame on the first floor. I noticed a metal plate that said "Stalag" which in German translation refers to a German prisoner of war camp for non-commissioned officers and privates. My great uncle was in two "Stalags" during WWII. He escaped from one and was recaptured and sent to another one further from the Allied front. The injury of the soldier you are talking about was a pneumo-thorax, this is a collapsed lung probably from a serious war injury but also occurred as a result from exposure to mustard gas and fuel from flame throwers.

Stalag is a short name for Straflager. The German Stalags wasn't any better than concentration camps in Germany in WW2. Torture and death every single day.

There were metal tags with the display of war items on the wall (at 28:26). They were German Prisoner of War tags. It appears Mr Roger was imprisoned at Stalag VI A in Hemer Germany.

Amazing place the history makes it memorable.Every war is brutal but a soldier’s story from the WW2 deserves to be preserved because of the cruelty of the war. I hope he’s buried in the French soldiers field out of respect. The home is truly a treasure chest guarding its history. I love French architecture and decor. I loved the huge mirror.

    Older military man was:
Henri Philippe Benoni Omer Pétain, generally known as Philippe Pétain, Marshal Pétain and sometimes The Old Marshal, was a French general officer who attained the position of Marshal of France at the end of World War I, during which he became known as The Lion of Verdun.

I loved the home and all the history. I especially loved the mill/bakery. Can’t you just imagine the good smells that used to be there? Those people were so self sufficient. All the stone work under the mill, hard to imagine those people building all of that. I really enjoy all your videos, and the care you take to show us every little thing. Thank you❤

Someone has been in the home, now I noticed your Drone footage, show the surrounding grounds near the home were being taken care of. Some is mowing the the grass, maybe one of the workers, came in, made themselves at home with his favorite newspaper.. bc the house looks like some one went through their things. The drawers are open, and things were scattered around. Someone was looking for valuables.

  • @VeilFairchild
    @VeilFairchild 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

This was a nice one, Maureno. I loved seeing the old mill here. Certainly not something you get to see every day. The house itself was in pretty good shape for being abandoned as long as it was. I'm amazed at the dates on the food jars. 1971?! Wow! It makes me sick, though, that this place is just left behind and forgotten, with no one to care for it. I mean, the man was a war veteran from WW2! That's nothing to sneeze at. I don't know. There's just not as much of a level of respect in society nowadays as there used to be. I hate to see the memories of war heroes being left to crumble away like this. Thank you so much that you gave Mr. Roger and his wife one last chance to tell their story to the world so they won't be forgotten. I think that's what most of us want, just to be remembered that our lives meant something on this earth. God bless you, Maureno, and stay safe!
    P.S.
Thanks for the flowers! 💐 They didn't come through the screen too well, but it's the thought that counts! 😂 Hope they smelled nice......

51:28 That might be Philippe Petain on the cover of the magazine.
I don't know french war history.. but for a moment I thought it was Charles or Philippe De Gaulle, which are quite well known, as well... OKAY UPDATE: Philippe Petain was arrested for collaborating with the Nazi Germany, he was sentence to death, by firing squad. Charles De Gaulle, lessen his sentence; out of respect for Petain's venerable age, to life imprisonment on August 17th 1945.
Phillippe Petain passed away in a prison, on the island of lle d'Yeu in 1951.

Heyy dear Maureno wonderfully formulated introduction about the couple, who were living in this abandoned French manor!
Wonderful images also from outside! It's looking somehow like an enchanted mansion with all the vegetation surrounding this place.
I absolutely love listening to your voice, when you are describing, what you see in this place. - Seeing the canned food products
in the glasses made me remember, how often my dearest mom used to cook fruits and after that canned them in exactly such glasses.
Although there were a lot of traces of natural decay visible, I had the strong feeling of seeing a legit timecapsule house, where
a lot of things seemed to be frozen in a certain moment in time. - It's interesting to imagine this mansion once filled with life back
in the active days. - That's really a legit question, what might have happened to the couple, who was once living there. - I loved
that special living room, where quite a lot of very interesting antique items were visible like that clock on top of the TV, which
is made in a pure art deco style, probably from the late 1920-ies to early 1930-ies. - I also loved your highly respectful and deeply
sensitive way, how you honoured the life of Mr.Roger, who served in the World War II, - and was even injured. Amazing to watch!
Very deep reflections about the horror of war in general and how we are at least here in Western Europe having the precious privilege
to live our lives in peace. - Wow Maureno, I would madly love to have a conversation about life and faith and hope, etc. with you!
Thank you, dear bro, for taking us viewers on tour through that magnificient and still well preserved mansion.
Of course I also enjoyed watching the tour through the building with the old mill and other ancient machinery, the bedrooms
and living room. That was actually a fascinating bonus of your video. - Wonderful!
Very charming ending of your video with the flower bouquet!
I enjoyed watching this "time travel", taking me on tour back in time! - Many hugs and blessings to you and Lesley!
Wishing you all the best, stay safe, peace and kindest regards from quite cold and wintery Switzerland.

Beautifully said, Willy! Hadn't seen any of your replies in a long time and was wondering if you and your family were surviving the latest Covid incarnation! My husband and I have been spared Covid, but a lot of my kids and grandkids now have 'natural immunity!'. What Covid restrictions do you have in Switzerland? In my state of Washington (not DC) we are being asked to wear our masks and keep 6 feet apart. Most people are complying here. Please take care, Willy. Hope to hear from you soon!

@@grandmacarla4258 , Hi Grandma Carla, It was lovely to read your kind words. - I very much appreciate. I actually
never stopped commenting, but probably you might just not have found my comments under these huge numbers
of comments from all over the world to our lovely explorer friends. - And - yes Covid still is a serious issue in
Switzerland as well, as we have very high infection numbers, but somehow the hospitalisations and the death
rates are not comparable to the delta- mutation of the Corona virus. We all need vaccination-certificates to enter
a restaurant or cinema or theatres, and so on. And inside you have to wear facemasks, - other than that there are
no further restrictions. Despite the immensely high infection numbers it seems somehow, that the omikron-mutation
might even be the start of the the long expected end of the whole pandemic situation. But nobody really knows. It's
even for the scientists difficult to say. So we just have to go on being careful and patient with the already familiar
health measures. - Wishing you all the best, blessings and stay safe! - Peace and kindest regards.

I think the people that worked the mill lived there and by the look of things, even though they r old and decayed now, were beautiful. So the staff were well looked after. Everything comes to nothing, this life is short but it doesn't end here.😉

    Fantastic mill house Maureno.
    Lovely.
Odd how she was named differently to him.
Maybe they had run off together and made their lives here at the mill. But they had made the place into their home. So sad that no family have claimed it again
