I had the pleasure of meeting Robben after one of his shows in Chicago in the early 2000's. I was a full time private jazz/rock guitar instructor in Chicago at that time. I talked to Robben for over an hour as he shot a game of pool. He was so humble and nice. At one point he looked around the club and asked me: "Where are all the ladies"?
I absolutely agree, gentlemen. Robben once said “don’t be afraid to play the melody.” It’s something I try to adhere to as player and it has served me well. Jing Chi is one of my favorite projects of his, just unbelievably outstanding.🎸
Nunca antes habia escuchado conversar a una guitarra ,bajo y bateria de manera tan fluida y entretenida como en esta presentacion!Gracias por subir esta produccion que de hecho es de gran calidad!
Its so sad to me that we don't appreciate the blues here in the US as much as our European brethren- this is an amazing performance...Robben is an absolute Jedi on the axe!
Oh My........Nothing To Nobody! Such a kickass, monstrous, rhythm tune! This is one of Robben’s best versions of a great song! That’s a bunch of music from just three players........fantastic!
The day he was born he came out with a little Gibson in his hands and everyone just got outta the way and has been trailblazing every since like a Combat Engineer !!
I was fortunate enough to see Robben on stage in Paris 3 times. It could have been 4, but I remember him playing the same day as the late BB KIng .... it was one hell of a choice too make ... now BB is gone, so I don't regret my choice. and I was lucky to attend Joe Bonamassa show a few years ago with Robben and Larry Carlton as special guests !!!
This is a great concert, with a good bass player (Travis Carlton, son of Larry Carlton) and an excellent drummer (his mother stated that when he was born he came out with 2 drumsticks in his hands).
Toss Panos, Travis Carlton = killer groove. Robben always pairs great players. The version of Indianola @10:09 rivals the studio cut. The track Nothing to Nobody @22:00 is a deep 10 minute groove with a Travis Carlton Bass solo. Absolutely superb, one of the best modern trio live performances for mine.
maybe you are too young ? Not making a joke but I saw him first on the Joni Mitchell tour in '74 I think it was, and did not realize that he was in the band. He looked every bit of 18 at that time, but was probably a little older than that, the pictures I found are quite hilarious .......... I get to see him here in Birmingham AL this week, can't wait !!!
LONG ago, I saw the Charles Ford Band open for Albert King (or maybe Freddie King) at the Keystone Korner in north beach San Francisco. "The Charles Ford Band, three brothers and a friend from Ukiah, California with extraordinary enthusiasm and energy, played gritty and accomplished urban blues at bars and clubs in the San Francisco Bay Area." "Formed in 1971 and existed for about a year. The band was named after Charles Ford, father of the brothers Robben, Patrick, and Mark." There was a min. drink requirement to stay and I couldn't buy alcohol at the time. That is how I "met" Robben Ford.
play guitar for 35 years , and i think , oke i am a good player , ha ha think again dolf. if robben is a 10 then i am a 2 . time for some humble pie . i love that guy , ha ha ha its insane . thanx robben .
Fabulous. Had a great time watching this video. Ford's chord choices are somethin' else, as well as his choices of guitars, while the bass (Travis Carlton) provided a really comfortable tapestry and the drums (Toss Panos) a heroic playing filled with accents. And Larry Coryell !!!!!! Thanks for uploading GB!
been a fan for a couple of decades. Fortunately, he came to SJ Jazz Fest one year and I got to see him. His playing is way beyond the normal blues guitarist.
groove tube Yeah, I ran across Ford in either '88 or '89 and been listening ever since. He's great. I do wish he could have made a billion because he's worked hard enough to have every cent. Peace
Brilliant playing from all. I wish whoever shares these would put the three names. As much as I love Robben, Travis Carlton & Toss Pamos...are in the same league.
GB, it makes such a difference when you list the songs & the times if it's possible for you. This is one of the best live recordings of Robben Ford with a fabulous trio to inspire him, can't find the words of how great this night was. Gerry, thank you for putting this concert on YT for us to watch!!! CAN you possibly DO THIS if you would be so kind?
I thought, "thats looks like larry carltons' son on bass". I was right! He is awesome, I saw him with his dad at the baked potato a few years ago. He was the highlight of the show in my opinion.
unbeleievable talented master . thanks Robben saw you in Boulder colorado at Tulagi's . Heheheheh . what a fuckin awesome night . i think it was 1978 . on the Hill . hahahahah

Listen to Ford all night and day every day every week without pausing the music
AIN'T IT THE TRUTH!
The only one that can play the guitar, sing and pass his hand trough his hair all at the same time as if it was nothing!
Haha, yeah and throw in a quick adjust to the glasses in the same motion... one of the goats for sure! 🙂
Que crack Toss Panos! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🥁🎵 increíble !

Wowsome !!! 👍🏻😉🇬🇷
Any time I see Toss Panos on the drums I know I'm going to be listening to the whole show 😀
Robben Ford is truly great!
Best groove at 1:29:30, that jams so damn hard! Deep in the zone, Incredible!!! The level of musicianship here in otherworldly
increíble. espasrcular. esto. es. vello. precioso. vella. musica. para. la. humanidad. los. felicitos. mis. ermanitos
This has to be some of Robben’s best playing. The maturity and tastiness in his phrasing is absolutely putrid
This dudes tone omg. So amazing and soulful.
Yasss!♥️👏

No Star Wars comparisons, please.
saw him in the 90s....without glasses! remains one of my guitariste & musician préféré Magnifique

He sings really great, too.
Best live music I heard after Jimi and Stevie Ray, evolution to Rock-Jazz-Afrobeat
like the BASS IN THIS SO DEEP AND CLEAR..AWESOME
Larry Carlton's son

DEFINITELY this version of INDIANOLA is one of the best recorded!
Ford, Carlton and Panos. Thank you all. Great sound also.
All 3 firing on all cylinders. SOOOOO GOOD! Why have't I heard of Robben Ford before? Excellent guitar work.

@@porkbelly0713 Maybe so. Glad I found him on TH-cam. Been watching lots of live shows. It's very good.

Larry Coryel jamming and having fun! It is clear he learned the tunes on the fly, on stage, what a fine musician. RIP.
After being buddies with Larry Carlton, he took his son Travis on the road to play bass who is a great bass player.
so much thanks gerry blue for this video❤

Robben really shines on a Telecaster... Thats his guitar...
One of my biggest guitar influences...robben is a superb guitar master.a real musician.

Among the best playing I ever heard on trio and right in the pocket music for me!
Warning: Masters at work.
Never tire watching this level of sheer talent 👍

I only say: diminished scale
that guitar is a Treasure. only R.F. would get something like that.
Thanks for posting this. Great guitar, bass, and drumming! RF has such cool tones here: very chewy. Excellent dynamics and touch.
Great Musicians !!!! Fabulous Robben !!!!!! Thanks god !!!!!

He is greek. Toss Panos is his name
He mixes hard and soft touch really well. His dynamics are as great.
How can we dislike this???

One of the greatest among many. It's the blues
That drummer.
Larry Coryell was just killin' it. Outstanding guitar work !
