- From January - May 2016, we demolished and rebuilt the Capital FM studios in Global's broadcast centre in Leicester Square.

I was part of a team who made this happen.
GLOBAL: www.global.com
Music: Sia ft Sean Paul - Cheap Thrills
spent 30 minutes looking for Matt and found him at 1:07 on the left of the screen partly covered by the light closest to the camera. mission completed to kill half an hour.
For future reference, you can use the , and . keys to skip forwards and backwards a frame when the video's paused
you can see him a couple of times in the top middle-ish area at around that time
I would hope every cable is neatly cable tied into a rack with a label on it and ideally heat shrunk on for easy identification.
They love it when i do that to every cable I build for the student radio... and the entire desk I rebuilt.
Do you have OCD? No offence intended.
When I'm at work or doing Cable installations and runs, yup! Its both a curse.... and fantastic.
Oddly, I don't have OCD when it comes to anything else.
PSA: Pause the video and use the , and . keys to walk through the video frame by frame.

New studio is so beautiful :) Well done ! I am curious on how the whole 360 tv screen works.. is that actually one screen or many of them put together?
+LeeGattTV I think you can see at 1:13
It appears to be a very cleverly set up NVSurround or Eyefinity setup as far as I can see... Otherwise *mind explodes*
by freezing during the debug screen display you can see that it's basically one of those big multi-screen displays that together show one image, only they put the screens in one long row. All you need is some clever rendering on a normal (but high res) screen to make stuff animate nicely .
Wow, getting to see inside of a radio station and how it's built is just crazy!!
Awful lot of wires!! Would love to be there as I imagine all the wires are all neat and nicely labelled 😂
Hmm, the tally lights on the mic arms (as seen in the "studio in use" video in the description) are really cool...
Those are yellowtec Mika if you didn't know by now and wanted to know
@@jinglebeast3069 Only took two years but now I finally know! Thanks :)
@@UTF_8x no worries mate. haha sorry I didn't see your comment earlier 😃
This is what I’ve always wanted
I love the raised floor system, I might have to copy that.
That is one neat studio! Great job team, and thanks for the Timelapse matt!
Lots of wiring in the desk seems to go to three boxes, are those digitisers or some other form of digital console stuff? Or power supplies? Lighting controllers..... Questions...
It's likely the hub/brains of the digital desk so any audio source can be routed to any channel. Very clever stuff.
That's a 3 column krone frame on the back of the cupboard door. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krone_LSA-PLUS
I desperately want a clean recording of this song (cap fm ver) for Self Radio
Floating construction. Should be pretty immune to outside noise.
Real big shame about that place. Saw it in London the other day. Very deserted now 🙁 used to have tons of analogue stuff! Now Genesys controls Global's radio operations.
Awesomeness!
Now why, in a RADIO studio, does it matter what the place looks like? The listeners aren't going to see all those displays!
+Mike Crilly They probably also webcast some, if not all, of their programming.
Fair enough!
Because it's nice to work somewhere nice.
better environment and work space for presenters
Mike Crilly Some radio stations do youtube videos.
So Matt, are you a broadcast engineer at Capital FM or the whole Global radio company? (ie do you also do work for Heart or Classical FM etc.)
🔥🔥🔥
How many days was this filmed over? Just curious :)
Every day appears to be about 6~ seconds.
By that logic it only took two weeks. If they were building everyday, so with that and probably a delay before hosts entered and computers were put in I’d say between 3 weeks and 5 weeks. This gives them weekends and accounts for days where Matt might not have filmed
Having said that the description says January- may but I do not know how much was the rebuilding with that knowledge I’d say closer to 5/6 weeks are shown in the video with other parts of the project taking longer.
Hi Matt! Don't know if you still respond to comments on this video / know the answer. But do you know what chairs they use in the studios? I've been looking for something similar, but cannot find anything that looks like they do.
Hi matt, I have a few questions for you and couldnt find anyway to send you a message. We're building a CH radio station/studio here in Kurdistan,Iraq inspired by this one and stations of the like (in the netherlands, Uk, etc.) I'm looking for individuals or a team/company of broadcast engineers who can help us purchase the right equipment and maybe travel over to oversee the installation? does this sound interesting to you, or do you know any party you'd recommend? many thanks if you can help in any way.
0:41 Phwoar, check that looming ;)
Guys , what will it cost to set up a studio like this ?
Forgive me for the foolish answer, but lots - given it's all corporate radio quality, I imagine each given section of it will have been in the order of hundreds or thousands.
How much did the build cost?
where did Capital broadcast from while this was going on?
they have 3 different studios so they used the other 2
Hey Matt, I was curious if you could tell me what microphone they used in this studio. Thanks :)
Beyerdynamic MC840 set to hypercardoid
@@MattGrayYES Thanks for the quick response brother! I appreciate it :)

What is the song?

But the Capital version! Lol.
Nice, but it will never surpass the Euston Tower location!
running windows...
Why complicate things?
